Golfing doesn't take size, height, strength, speed, reflexes, super coordination, timing, and anticipation... Basketball and Boxing do.

Golf requires focus, concentration, good eyes, and a lot of time to practice.

Boxing a Champion in Boxing requires having some experience against some lesser boxers and proving you can at least be competitive against them. Wilt Chamberlain never proved he could beat an 0-10 amateur let alone Muhammad Ali.

Wilt Chamberlain is competitive with Ali only in your mind. In the real world he would've been beaten easy as pie.

Did Ali beat the normal sized Lyle Alzado as easy as pie???? Ali couldn't stop Alzado and even resorted to flagrantly thumbing Alzado's in the eye when it seemed Alzado was about to hurt Ali seriously. Alzado was short with stubby arms and never fought a professional fight in his life. Yet he lit Ali up. Frankly, I wasn't impressed by Alzado as a boxing prospect and thought Ali would have a much easier time with him.

Chamberlain was 100 X as good a Boxing prospect as the super hittable Alzado... According to their negotiated contract Chamberlain would have significant training expenses and 6 months to train.. With tons of Heavyweights Ali's size to box, and great coaching, he'd be up to speed very quickly..

Just watched Ali vs Alzado. Yeah Ali had a pretty easy time there, and this was old, shot to pieces Ali...and it was just an exhibition bout, not an actual contest, if scorecards would've been read Ali won all 4 rounds.

Could Usain Bolt beat Ali with 6 months training and a time machine? What about Michael Phelps?

What if Chamberlin had a glass jaw? Or bad fighters instincts? What if he was a big athletic guy who could only throw arm punches like so many others? What if he cut easily?

Glass Jaw? Bad Fighter's Instincts? Cut easily? Arm Punches? No Way.....He was too awesome for any of that, and his BB stats were one of a kind, he could play both ends of the court...AT THE SAME TIME......and he could sit in a T.V. studio and hold a contract and call a champ out like nobody before him.

Don't make us laugh....Wilt NEVER lost a boxing match.

I'm not sure he ever lost a bb game. Any stats on that? Did he EVER LOSE a single BB game? I don't think so. And if he did, it's probably because it was a total set up, or he ate something really really bad (like an opposing team member) just before the game.

What if Wilt Chamberlain was short.. slow.. pudgy.. uncoordinated.. none too bright.. uncompetitive.. small.. light.. weak.. and a total mess????

Such as Jean Pierre Coopman... Rudi Lubbers... Brian London... Karl Mildenberger... Alfredo Evangelista... and some other little punks Ali fought??? ... If Ali was faced with that type of opponent instead of this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mF57P1uUG0s Ali would have signed.

Isn't there already a thread about Wilt and Ali? Do we have to veer back into that instead of discussing the far more relevant fight between Babe Ruth and Ali? Jesus

Since Ruth hit his athletic peak in the 20's and Ali hit his peak in 60's... That fight wasn't going to happen to my knowledge... At least I missed the TV shows and public appearances where Babe Ruth and Muhammad Ali hyped their "Coming World Title Fight." ... You have any youtube clips???

It all comes down to one thing. Wilt Chamberlin was a big freak who excelled at putting a large ball into a basket in a sport where guys get carried off if they get a boo-boo on their elbow. In a boxing ring he would have been in Ali Country and he wouldn't last two rounds. Basketball! HaHaHaHaHaHA! :D  :OhYes:

He excelled at both ends of the court, not just putting the ball in the hole... Which means he had to get up and down the court pretty damned fast.

It's obviously you never played college, or even high school basketball -- which can get pretty damned rough under the boards and you don't come out for a booboo.. There a millions of High School players and many thousands of college players.. but only 4oo something NBA players.. They're an extremely elite group of athletes and Chamberlain was the best of the best.

How many High School boxers are there???? ... None... There's almost no college boxers and the ones that exist suck to the quasars. There's not a deep pool of talent.

If Muhammad Ali had 3 months of training with Coach Red Auerbach he'd beat Wilt Chamberlain in 1 on 1 basketball easy.

See how stupid that sounds? Now just imagine...that's how stupid you sound ALL.THE.TIME

You admit you sound stupid gilgamesh... Ali had NO talent for Basketball... He couldn't run fast and looked awkward as HELL dribbling a Basketball... Ali turned down the organizers of Super Stars to compete against other top athlete... He didn't want to do a Joe frazier and finish last in the competition.

Here's a look at one of Frazier's efforts to master another sport https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPk2zl5s6xM other athletes adapted better

Wilt Chamberlain was an all around athlete who could have competed in Boxing, basketball, Football, Volleyball, Track & Field etc.

Hell come to think of it Ali might've only needed 3 days of training to beat Wilt at Basketball. I wasn't even being serious with my Red Auerbach comment, but you're too stupid to pick up sarcasm that's spelled out for ya so I'll just keep on going and clowning ya.

You're too stupid to know I was returning the sarcasm idiot... Ali could train all his life and never make the NBA... He didn't have the goods.

Chamberlain was an all around athlete who would have picked up Boxing quickly... The contract Ali refused to sign gave him 6 months to train.

Chamberlain signed it... Ali didn't, he just boasted he would fight Chamberlain as proven in this video "I accept your challenge. As soon as I finish with a few more contenders... if I beat them.." yada yada yada https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mF57P1uUG0s

Seems to me Wilt was the one who got cold feat and went back home to practice his free throws. To bad it didn't work out with the free throws.

Oh Yeah??? ... Then why did Chamberlain set the all-time NBA record for scoring free throws in a game... and set the record for points scored in a game (100 points).. So he really needed to practice his free throws so he could keep resetting his own records..

Ali had much weaker parts to his boxing game: No body attack... Poor defense... pulled straight back from punches... a weak infighting game... chronic clinching and holding... I haven't heard that Ali scored the Boxing record for body punches landed in a fight... Wilt set the NBA record for free throws made in a game... So if free throws were his biggest weakness, he could certainly focus his mind when it came to setting individual records in a team sport.

Kalan,

Ali had "read the book" so to speak of many very very talented fighters coming his way, he lived chapter after chapter..... and he wrote the book on ring generalship. He always figured out a way in his prime, to deal effectively with what was before him. As much as you want to "gift" Wilt with every talent, skill, and option known in the physical universe and beyond.

Wilt would only have 6 months of training, never having cracked that same book to see what a real fight was like. Never knowing what it's like to have someone come after him with ill intent for all they are worth. Who was going to give him that experience?

Hell if Ali himself and his trainer took on the training of Wilt, showing Wilt every weakness he had, and giving tips on how to overcome them...I'm still not sure it does the inexperienced giant much good.

It's crazy to imagine that anyone is going to be ready for prime time given those circumstances.

......and if I'm not mistaken...YOU say you are a trainer. You of all people should know better. But somehow inexplicably, without explanation....you don't know better.

And I find that as interesting as I find it entertaining.

Now Babe Ruth vs Chamberlain in a boxing match....each having six months to train? ...I think that's a live fight. ON this hypothetical I agree with you, and I'd go with Wilt.

Wilt did as his daddy told him. The under arm free throw was the result of it all.
