Not surprising, given that there was strong evidence of state sponsored doping at the Beijing Olympics, not to mention a very suspicious spike on performance.Rob3_142 wrote:I remember at London 2012 that 15 year old Chinese girl that was breaking a bunch of world records and such, and just because she was Chinese, there were many qualifying her position as a clean athlete.

I'll be honest, I hadn't given it much thought. I don't like accusing people of being drug abusers just in principle. But there are lots of incidents in the past which make you feel such a way.Boxing Prospect wrote:Ye Shiwen? Interesting one last night with the South African guy smashing the 400m record from lane 8. I understand a couple of journalists directly asked him about drugs in the press conference afterwards.
Re: Tyson Fury charged by UKad
Yeah this is a real shame as this guy has been really coming through for a few years now. Had a fantastic world champs last year and became the first athlete to break 10 seconds for 100m, 20 seconds for 200m and 44 seconds for 400m.BillyTKid wrote:Interesting one last night with the South African guy smashing the 400m record from lane 8. Unfortunately this is the world we are now living in, and success is commonly associated with cheating. We can to a certain degree thank the Russian Federation for that.
Re: Tyson Fury charged by UKad
Blame the Russians? Have you seen how many medlas we've won? Just because your team is full of well spoken, grinning, good eggs, don't kid yourself. If you're dominating sports like rowing and cycling you should be looked upon with a questioning eye IMO.Rob3_142 wrote:Yeah this is a real shame as this guy has been really coming through for a few years now. When we decided we wanted to become the best in the world at rowing in the 90s, what did we do..? Bring in the former East German olympic coach. Job done.
Re: Tyson Fury charged by UKad
For the record I was not blaming the Russians because of the number of medals they won, but mostly because of the shameless state sponsored doping which had been going on for the last 10 years. The cheaters are the ones which cause uncertainty in the sport, not the guys who win gold medals.Sklar wrote:Blame the Russians? Have you seen how many medlas we've won? The domination of rowing and cycling in the UK has been largely down to a culture of dedication and history, backed up by an anti-doping philosophy with genuine integrity. Don't forget UKAD recommended lifetime bans for cheats to the IOC. It was only a legal loophole which allowed the likes of Dwain Chambers back in. Countries always have sports which they excel in - China in table tennis and diving, USA in swimming, Italy in shooting, South Korea in archery, are we to imply all these countries are dirty drug cheats, just because of their relative success?
Just think on in future before making such ignorant comments.

Why would they face defamation for dropping the case? That makes absolutely no sense at all.Rob3_142 wrote:Omg have they really dropped it? Still no announcement

How anyone still has tickets to this is beyond me.
I just can not see how this goes ahead in Manchester.

You think it's quite possible that the stands will be half empty? Or do you think enough casuals will happily fill the gaps?Naandrew wrote:Still no announcement

Casuals at those prices? No chance.Rob3_142 wrote:You think it's quite possible that the stands will be half empty? Or do you think enough casuals will happily fill the gaps?Naandrew wrote:Still no announcement

By now most people who had tickets must have got refunds. It's 9 weeks today since the fight got cancelled and whilst the 29th Octber date has been thrown about for a few weeks nothing has been announced officially.
Me and my best mate had tickets and got refunds about two weeks after the cancellation. I think the UKAD stuff came out the day before, but we had decided before that to get a refund anyway.
We were really looking forward to the fight as well. It was for THE heavyweight championship the first time since 1998 in the UK. It should be selling out within a few days but the prices were ridiculous. I can not see how they can go back on sale at those and prices and anyone will buy. No one will have confidence of the fight going ahead after everything that has been going on.
Re: Tyson Fury charged by UKad
Well yeah, it's still a world title fight in Manchester, you really think some casuals would care? Just because me and you think it's a joke situation, doesn't mean some well off casual doesn't fancy a night of boxing - I'm sure there's plenty of them.Boxerbeetle wrote:Casuals at those prices? It's more promotion. Camp Eddie would have sold it. But he wouldn't have charged the prices, or had to because it would be on Sky, constant ads, etc. Casuals don't watch Buncey on a Thursday night.

It's all about the prices. Hearn said they were twice what the Last two Joshua fights were.
I know for a fact they were twice what Quigg v FrAmpton was as I went to that and had tickets for this.
I still think at reasonable prices this fight would have sold out. Most of 2nd tier was £120 or more. I remember searching Twitter at the time they went on sale and there were loads of complaints.
If there was big casual interest with those prices this fight the fight would have sold out early but there was every price range available before the fight was cancelled.
Like mickey said in the post above Hearn would have had no problems selling this show out but no way at the same prices.
The entire heavyweight division has been a joke this year.

I'm actually quite surprised that allegedly went along with those prices, thought he was a bit smarter than that. Or was this the Fury's demands? I remember when the whole Eubank debacle was going on. Hearn refused to raise the ticket prices from their model. The ticket prices would be the same as a Joshua fight, no excuses. It's bizarre that they think doubling prices than the rest of the market will be well received.

Biggest joke about tickets is none of the "cheap" ones went on sale! None of the fans or boxers on the card could get them.

What happened to the cheap tickets then? Were they intending to hold them back until the more expensive tickets were sold before releasing them?
