What We Are All Truly Waiting For....

Post by bnovelist »

That champion that comes along and beats up the boogie man into submission or corner stoppage in a flawless fashion.

1.) Like if Andre Ward beat up Kovalev the same way as Dawson

2.) Like if Thurman outclasses Errol Spence Jr to the point where Errol quits on his stool or the ref stops it...

3.) Like if Kell Brook totally punishes GGG and I mean punishes him like Calzaghe did Lacy.

A win over any boogie man that leaves us in shock! Like Ali did to Liston & Foreman. The way Floyd beat up Corrales. A win that leaves us saying

OMG. We dont have that fighter right now and we havnt had it for sometime now. You know that special win by that special fighter

Andre Ward could beat up every name fighter from Light Heavyweight to Heavyweight and he'd still stink out the joint every time doing it. I'll never be a fan of that guy.

What I'm waiting for is for GGG to get the big name opponent and the recognition he deserves

I’m not a Golovkin hater. He’s possibly the most enjoyable fighter to watch at this point in time. He certainly passes the eye-ball test. I want him to succeed, because the sport is in desperate need of excitement.

My main gripe is with his fans making all sorts of absurd claims about him being “the most feared fighter in history”, comparing him to “Hagler”, assuring his entry in the Hall-of-Fame when he’s yet to gain a signature victory, proclaiming that he’s a "small" 160lb-er (as if he’s at a "disadvantage" when he "bravely" engages in "David vs. Goliath" type bouts) and also their double standards (i.e. two people commit the same crime – one is the derided, the other is deemed a hero).

I want GGG to clear any doubt, face the very best and defeat his peers. However, there’s a small part of me that also wants to see him fail, not because of anything he’s done, but to see his annoyingly ignorant fans all teary-eyed and distraught.

I'm surprised you didn't mention Douglas-Tyson as an example of what you're saying.

Ward is also undefeated and a betting favourite over Kovalev, so that's not a great example.
Spence is fairly green and unproven, though showing great potential - putting him in with Thurman right now would probably be at least one fight premature, so that's also not a great example.
If Brooks beat GGG, that wouldn't be as big of an upset as Douglas-Tyson, as Brook is an undefeated world champion in a division far deeper than middleweight and is naturally not that much smaller than GGG. That said, it would still be a big upset and would elevate Brook to super stardom.
