I think he should have made a stop to 54 though. It's like when Corrales was at 130 then 135 when he probably should've been one weight class up. He jumps to 147 and gets pummeled when I think at the time, he would've been best for him.

Kell has said from the time the fight was signed that he is a natural middleweight so maybe he is right after all,i'm wondering how people would be calling this fight if kell was a career middleweight,is it purely the size difference that is convincing most fans that he is going to get ko'd easily or do they think he doesn't have the skills ?
I find it a bit scary that by his assertion, he drained two weightclasses below where he should be draining to...and I'm not talking fight weight. 160 is what he says he should be DRAINING to.

Not really as Hatton just got fat between fights. Hatton wasn't naturally a 154 fighter. Brook at 176, 29 lbs more is still ripped and in shapped. Hatton at 169 would be fat.Impractical Poster wrote:Sounds a bit like what Ricky Hatton used to do.IKSRTFO wrote:bigjack wrote:

Of course, but fighting Clottey is different from fighting GGG. He can take a worse beating from GGG and still be regarded as a better fighter than Corrales.

The weight will not be an issue for Brook, because I believe he is actually the bigger man.
He's obviously been cutting himself to the bone to get down to WW & he should feel so much better at MW.
Whether he can overcome the might of Golovkin is another thing entirely.

Brook outweighs Golovkin by 11 pounds - 176 to 165
At the mandatory 30-Day To Fight weigh-in Kell Brook---who's been doing a massive amount of strength training with the aid of strength coaches who specialize in training boxers---weighed a buffed 176 to Gennady Golovkin's 165..
Book has also been doing a ton of wind sprints along with speed and flexibility workouts - in order to convert the added weight and strength into responsive punching power and durable resistance. At the very least it shows Brook has no intention of doing an Amir Khan like pratfall when he get tagged by one of the greatest punchers in the game. Brook has always displayed a rugged chin at Welterweight, unlike the more vulnerable Khan whose been knocked several times - but will that toughness transfer to the Middleweight Division?

It doesn't seem foolish to anyone else that a person who competes at 147 could weigh 176 during training?
This weight cutting BS.
However, big up Kell for taking the fight.
Boo, to GGG and his people for not being able to find a 154 pounder.

I agree with this point.Impractical Poster wrote:Sounds a bit like what Ricky Hatton used to do.
Whilst I’m not for one second suggesting that Kell Brook is living off a diet of beer and burgers between bouts, he has always gained a significant amount of weight shortly after his fights.
I remember Brook’s face appearing gaunt after a post-fight interview on SKY and then attending a studio as a pundit for one of the late night SKY or Box-Nation fights a few months later and he literally had hamster cheeks. The change in his facial appearance seemed quite humorous to me.
Of course, Brook never gets as fat as Hatton did, but he certainly carries some timber when he’s not training.
I think that when a fighter like Kell Brook clearly bloats to well above the 180lbs mark between bouts, which he must have been weighing prior to his training camp for the Golovkin fight, then a lot of what he loses must be a combination of water and body fat to regularly and quickly get down to 147lbs. You can't lose or gain that amount of muscle-mass that quickly or frequently through natural means.
I reckon Golovkin must be more of a disciplined gym rat (than Brook) typically walking around weighing 175lbs or so and then makes a premeditated decision to dehydrate to 160lbs-165lbs for both the 30-day and official weigh-ins.

Seems obvious that GGG uses the 30 day weigh in as a sort of dry run for the real thing. You're right about Brook putting on weight between fights too, I've seen him with a double chin to rival my own, but I saw some photos that I assume were from this weigh in and he looked pretty solid. Hard to imagine he'll be less that 170 come fight night.

Golovkin was 170lbs for Monroe, 173lbs for Rubio, 170lbs for Macklin etc.Deadendgeneration wrote:Enlightened-One wrote:I agree with this point.Impractical Poster wrote:Sounds a bit like what Ricky Hatton used to do.

It’s safe to say that he typically rehydrates to more than 170lbs for pretty much all of his bouts.

He was 168lb on fight night for the Proksa fight, although that was nearly four years ago now.Enlightened-One wrote:Golovkin was 170lbs for Monroe, 173lbs for Rubio, 170lbs for Macklin etc.Deadendgeneration wrote:Enlightened-One wrote: I agree with this point.

dont really think the weight will be an issue its the difference in natural talent and skill levels that makes this an impossible task for brook, for me brook let his mask slip in the 1st carson jones fight, you could visibly see brook feeling sorry for himself and the confidence just drained out of him, betcha we see that same look against GGG.

I honesty think that was the best thing ever happened to Brook. Hence I don't think he'll be anything like that against Golovkin. Also there were some very honest comments post that fight about lack of focus and preparation. The biggest problem I see for Brook is that a seriously tough guy in Murray couldn't go 12 rounds with the man then I'm not sure there's anyone out there who can take that beating for 12 rounds. And Golovkin is a good boxer with a really solid chin.

i just think that the things that brook does well wont be enough to deter GGG, golovkin will make that ring seem tiny and brooks main concern will be getting through the rounds rather than winning themGPTM1403 wrote:littlepug wrote:dont really think the weight will be an issue its the difference in natural talent and skill levels that makes this an impossible task for brook, for me brook let his mask slip in the 1st carson jones fight, you could visibly see brook feeling sorry for himself and the confidence just drained out of him, betcha we see that same look against GGG.
