Price knocked out Joshua in sparring

Post by Anzi »

Price is looking to challenge Joshua for his world title and he feels he has the punch to win it and he says he he has already knocked out Joshua in Sparring, when Joshua was an Amateur. Dillian Whyte has already shown that Joshua can be hurt bad and he does not punch as hard as Price. The question is, can Price survive Joshua's shots ? It's a risky fight for Hearn, because it will be who lands first, though Joshua is much faster. Here is the article : Published On August 12, 2016 | By Niall Doran | Boxing News, Boxing Views and Opinion

A sensational story has broken in the boxing world today as reports that David Price knocked out Anthony Joshua in a past sparring session have emerged.
IBF heavyweight champion of the world Anthony Joshua is currently looking for his next opponent this year at the O2 Arena in London most likely, and it looks like there may now be a new candidate to add to the list of potential foes.
Liverpool’s big hitting David Price has gone through a tough spell in his career in recent years following some crushing stoppage defeats, but is now coming off the back of a win inside the distance himself following a TKO win over Vaclav Pejsar in his hometown back in May.
Price has gotten the short end of the stick in his pro career in some people’s eyes, for a number of reasons, but has always come across as a quietly spoken, humble man, determined to keep going and pick himself back up from adversity.
Today however, he let the cat out of the bag with some remarks when he told Richard Damerell of Sky Sports that he once “floored” Joshua back in 2011 in a sparring session when Joshua was still an amateur – leaving the Londoner “flat on his face.”

david price knocked out anthony joshua
Joshua’s career has been handled carefully by promoter Eddie Hearn so far
Fast forward five years and how times have changed for both men.
Joshua is now on the ascent having won a version of the world title inside sixteen pro fights and Price is looking to get back into contention as a contender again.
Gym stories in boxing are always taken with a pinch of salt at the best of times and are largely never meant to be revealed, but given the credibility of someone like David Price who is known for his honesty and good nature, this has at least has to be taken somewhat seriously in my view.
Obviously it happened a long time ago and Joshua is a completely different fighter now (as is Price) but if true, it could be the precursor for an explosive domestic heavyweight fight between Joshua and Price, pitting two massive hitters in the ring.
Despite the critics that Price might have, one thing that can’t be taken away from him is that devastating right hand he has.
That equaliser will always be there and one would think that if he did fight Joshua, one thing is a near certainty, the fight wouldn’t be going the distance whoever is the victor.
Joshua has been linked to fights with Joseph Parker, Hughie Fury and Kubrat Pulev recently, but a domestic showdown with Price would likely generate more interest in the UK one would imagine.

As Price says, this wasn't exactly a well kept secret. It's just the first time he's actually confirmed it. The way Pricey's career has gone means he's not exactly a top 5 contender but he'd come with a lot more ambition and power than the rest of Joshua's opponents. Really would be a case of whoever lands clean first walking away as the winner.

I don't think many people would want to see the severely limited and chinny Price wiped out the first time AJ lands regardless of what may or may not have happened in sparring 5 years ago

Who cares about sparring?

Price should aim no higher than the British title right now.

Pretty much everyone already knew that Price had knocked out Joshua in sparring, and it's no surprise anyway considering Price is one of the hardest hitting punchers in the world and Joshua was an amateur at the time. Means absolutely fvck all though - Joshua would demolish Price now. If Price can't stop Teper from getting to him, he's not going to keep Joshua away.

This guy should be getting nowhere near a world title shot until he has picked up at least one comeback win worth anything.

He KO'd AJ in sparring 5 years ago wow! Give the guy a world title shot right away! The public demand it.

I'd rather see Price in with Whyte or Helenius. If he gets a couple of decent wins then fair enough state your case but until then just zip it man!

Can't see this as anything more than a Cash Out fight for David Price. Perhaps he's thinking he's getting KOed if he goes for anything meaningful so might as well be in a PPV as will be getting paid more for being picked up off of the floor than in a European fight. He looked really wary against Teper so can't see him doing anything offensive against Joshua. It could almost be as farcical a flight as Audley vs Haye. Could easily get made with the close promotional links between Hean and the S'lands.

Sparring don't mean shi.te, it's just practise for the main event.

Sparring clearly means nothing, especially considering where both fighters were five years ago to now, if it was last week it would be interesting to find out but Price just wants to cash out and retire. Can't blame him, but he needs good wins to get this fight and I don't see him putting them together.

Price craps himself whenever someone stands up to him,he should be jabbing people silly but instead he waves it about like a poor mans junior witter.

Price has big power and Joshua can be hurt. Nothing new there. There is very little chance of that happening in a real fight with this version of Joshua, given the way Price has looked since the first Thompson fight.

Oh dear, can see where this is heading. 'Grudge match', 'setting the record straight', 'the public want to know once and for all who's no1', 'it's what the public demanded' etc etc

If price was able to let his hands go he'd be a danger to ahyone; but against joshua he'll freeze and get chinned in short order. His confidence is shot to shite.

This. :TU: Price needs to spend some money and go to the best hypnotist in the world. Benn used Paul McKenna before the Mclellan fight and look what happened there.

Price only has a punchers chance, he does not take a shot well, lacks speed, footwork, movement, struggles in the stamina department and suffers badly from nerves on the big occasion. Unfortunately these are the areas you need to excel at, to beat Joshua. But again he has a punchers chance and he is a big lump.

Don't know why nobody has corrected Price on his jab, he paws to much with it, allowing his opponents to come through it and hurt him, with such a good right cross, if he had a harder jab, he would be much harder to hit and his right cross would be even more effective.

Sparring blah blah. Joshua might have been too relaxed, too inexperienced. Loads of things, 5 years is an age in boxing. Price would get flattened.

I assume people have tried but hes just too gun-shy to throw it like that

Personally I found pure terror made me more likely to try to put some weight into the jab, for the reasons you give

Well you're far less likely to get clumped if your pumping out a big solid jab, especially if you're Pricey's size, it's not like it's going to be easy for most fighters to slip it and counter with the right cross is it?

The way he paws with the jab he;s basically inviting people to chin him.

I'm not sure it matters how much he corrects his jab, he was absolutely exhausted four rounds in against Thompson. Any fighter that can get to his body and take him rounds will beat him, he goes to pot as soon as his backs against the wall.

5 years ago? Didn't AJ start boxing like 6 years ago?

I'm sorry, but I think there's nothing to be proud of actually.

It all stems from the same thing IMO - him gassing as well as pawing with the jab seem to be symptomatic of someone who's in a constant state of nervous tension. That drains you far quicker than if you are fighting in a relaxed manner.

I really agree, it was no more evident than in the second Thompson fight. He was all over the place after a few rounds and it was through nervous engergy, but I don't think that's anything you can cure. As much as you can correct a jab you can't change something that is just inherent in a person, he has good tools and when in a commanding position he's a tough foe, but put his back against the wall and when he has to dig deep it just isn't there for him. He's a classic flat track bully.

Price isn't gloating about it or calling him out. Some asked him if it did happen, he confirmed and pretty much said it was a long time ago, fighters develop, change etc. It'll be matchroom who beat the drum about this, they want another domestic 'grudge' match they know will be straight forward
