Price knocked out Joshua in sparring
Re: Price knocked out Joshua in sparring
Joshua has been busted up and halted in actual amateur contests on YouTube.
But to his credit, he's dusted himself down, worked harder and improved himself.
It would be an issue if he crumbled and mentally folded with each of those experiences. But he hasn't , which tells you he's got a lot of determination and self-belief.
Unfortunately for Price, he has gone the other way with each set back.
I like David, seems a real gent. But this unfortunately smells of money fight to me and putting over a novice is nothing to brag about, nor is it something you would package up as an 'angle' and sell to the masses.

Re: Price knocked out Joshua in sparring
I don't even like passing comment on this proposed "fight" as the more it gets discussed the more Eddie will think he can pull this off.
Price has done nothing to get a shot at a title. He knows he is one punch away from retirement and it's only a matter of time before it happens so he wants to cash out.

Oh oké, I haven't seen the context, but this explains a lot ;)freddydoesdallas wrote:Price isn't gloating about it or calling him out. Some asked him if it did happen, he confirmed and pretty much said it was a long time ago, fighters develop, change etc. It'll be matchroom who beat the drum about this, they want another domestic 'grudge' match they know will be straight forwardasdfjkl wrote:5 years ago? I'm sorry, but I think there's nothing to be proud of actually.

Personally I found pure terror made me more likely to try to put some weight into the jab, for the reasons you give

His stamina is not great, but I think the 2nd Thompson fight was due to nerves, he used up so much nervous energy in that fight.TheDarkDestroyer wrote:I'm not sure it matters how much he corrects his jab, he was absolutely exhausted four rounds in against Thompson. The way he paws with the jab he;s basically inviting people to chin him.
Re: Price knocked out Joshua in sparring
You can see that Price is getting desperate now to land that next shot against AJ for the payday. I don't believe he would have released that information otherwise.

oh I agree, it doesn't make sense to me either, I just can't underatand if he's been in camps with professional trainers that nobody tried to fix it, they must have done, so why else wouldn't he commit to a jab if it wasn't for being gunshy? its a mystery.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Well you're far less likely to get clumped if your pumping out a big solid jab, especially if you're Pricey's size, it's not like it's going to be easy for most fighters to slip it and counter with the right cross is it?Counter-puncher wrote:I assume people have tried but hes just too gun-shy to throw it like thatAnzi wrote:Don't know why nobody has corrected Price on his jab, he paws to much with it, allowing his opponents to come through it and hurt him, with such a good right cross, if he had a harder jab, he would be much harder to hit and his right cross would be even more effective.

I think he doesn't pump it out because he is scared of getting countered over the top.Counter-puncher wrote:oh I agree, it doesn't make sense to me either, I just can't underatand if he's been in camps with professional trainers that nobody tried to fix it, they must have done, so why else wouldn't he commit to a jab if it wasn't for being gunshy? its a mystery.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Well you're far less likely to get clumped if your pumping out a big solid jab, especially if you're Pricey's size, it's not like it's going to be easy for most fighters to slip it and counter with the right cross is it?Counter-puncher wrote:

But you risk getting hit just as much, if not more, by pawing with the jab. If you miss, you risk getting hit whatever. At least if you jab strong, there's an upside. There's no upside to pawing as even if you land, they can just walk through it. Thats why its so inexplicable.

Re: Price knocked out Joshua in sparring
You also deter your opponent from throwing, and keep them off balance. The jab when thrown fast and with force, is very hard to slip, when it's pawed with, there's more than enough time to get around or underneath it.Counter-puncher wrote:But you risk getting hit just as much, if not more, by pawing with the jab. Price is just afraid to commit to his punches, he can't help it.

Yeah it seems like a mental block, like having the yips
Re: Price knocked out Joshua in sparring
Na I agree but I just think that's his thought process when he's in the ring for some reason. It's pretty silly when you're that tall with a significant reach advantage to not use it properly.Counter-puncher wrote:But you risk getting hit just as much, if not more, by pawing with the jab. Yikes if this happens.
Re: Price knocked out Joshua in sparring
I can see Price going down like an oak Tree pretty similar to the Teper fight.crusader wrote:Yikes if this happens.
For what it's worth and it's just an opinion obviously, I believe Teper would have beaten Price even if he wasn't doping.
Re: Price knocked out Joshua in sparring
Price would be badly knocked out... I think it would similar to how KTFO'd Audley against the ropes. I like Price and would feel bad watching him fight AJ.
Incidentally, this thread has made me wonder: who wins an unbeaten Price vs unbeaten Seth Mitchell fight?

I doubt he is " proud " of it, but it happens, it's sparring . AJ no doubt learnt a lot from it

Exactly.Horse wrote:Who cares about sparring?
Price should aim no higher than the British title right now.
At best it'd give a matchup some hype - and only if Pryce were able to actually earn a shot at the championship by beating a contender or winning an exciting fight against someone decent.
Re: Price knocked out Joshua in sparring
i would like to see aj v price and would gradly pay the ppv for it
it would be a better event than the last two very limited americans the aj has beaten

Re: Price knocked out Joshua in sparring
Would it? I'd envision Price sitting himself before he's even got in the ring and then when he does eventually get in the ring, fighting very timidly and then getting knocked out in brutal fashion within 3 rounds. Don't forget, this is a guy that mentally fell apart before the rematch with a middle aged Thompson who wasn't a puncher particularly. How do you think he's gonna hold up against a 26 yr old, physical beast who is a big puncher and is also not that much smaller than himself?mullenman wrote:i would like to see aj v price and would gradly pay the ppv for it

I don't see Price being able to take a sustained beating like Breazeale did for 7 rounds.

Re: Price knocked out Joshua in sparring
All completely true, but the difference is Price would at least have a slim chance due to his power. I think Joshua's somewhat open to a straight shot and Price has the power to land a booming shot.lefty wrote:Would it? Re: Price knocked out Joshua in sparring
I agree. The problem is he'd be gun shy and wouldn't throw I don't think any then Joshua would jump all over him. Unless he thinkd to himself I might aswell just go balls to wall here and if I get caught in the process then so be it. There is a chance he might try that strategy.BrackaBarclay wrote:All completely true, but the difference is Price would at least have a slim chance due to his power. Re: Price knocked out Joshua in sparring
I think the only way he might correct it is to go all Steve Collins, do some hypnotherapy and try and get into a totally different mental state to avoid the nervousness and gassing out. He needs curing mentally I agree, it's all in his mind. But he is chinny as fook and that IS physical.TheDarkDestroyer wrote:I really agree, it was no more evident than in the second Thompson fight. He was all over the place after a few rounds and it was through nervous engergy, but I don't think that's anything you can cure. As much as you can correct a jab you can't change something that is just inherent in a person, he has good tools and when in a commanding position he's a tough foe, but put his back against the wall and when he has to dig deep it just isn't there for him. He's a classic flat track bully.Deserter wrote:It all stems from the same thing IMO - him gassing as well as pawing with the jab seem to be symptomatic of someone who's in a constant state of nervous tension. That drains you far quicker than if you are fighting in a relaxed manner.TheDarkDestroyer wrote:

I'm surprised it's taken David this long to roll this particular die. He's got to put food on the table.

Yeah it would be a re-run of Haye-Harrison - we'd be sold the idea that one punch from either boxer could win the fight (true in theory), but in reality one of the boxers would be too terrified to even throw a punch and would get ko'd early.lefty wrote:I agree.
