What's the deal with Richard Towers? Is he still active?

Bare bad man in real life, but shite in the ring. I'm sure I read an interview with Peter Fury where he said that Towers' problems were not so evident in the gym, and the problem wasn't to do with lack of abilty.

Whatever, he has never been able to cut it as a pro, and I doubt we'll see him do anything significant. But fair play to him for doing a long stretch and making a go of it on the outside.

Not active enough as a pro for reasons I have never heard explained. he is now old and I wouldn't be surprised if he never fought again.

He should look for advertising work. Maybe for Morphy Richards. He's good with an iron I hear.

He still seems to stick around with Adam Booth. Might just be helping him out with other fighters now.

Thanks Jefe, I didn't know that. I'm just curious about him because he seemed to be going places then he just seemed to drop off the radar.

Shame him Lewison, Cornish, Allen and Sexton can't all just sort out differences and fight each other. None are gonna set the World alight but I think all those names are fairly evenly matched.

Who is going to pay them? Not sure any of those guys mentioned can shift tickets or pull in viewers, can they?

I dunno, it'd make an entertaining Prizefighter tournament actually.

A heavyweight prizefighter featuring ALLEN, TOWERS, LEWISON, SEXTON Little and a few others would be a great way to highlight the strength in depth of the UK heavyweight division. I would have Lewison as favourite as he can really bang and his style and conditioning make him ideally suited to a short format.

Not at the moment - according to Eddie in an IFL video a few months ago.

Maybe he should look at franchising out the concept to an up & coming promoter.

If he's reading this I said.......

MAYBE HE SHOULD FRANCHISE THE PRIZEFIGHTER CONCEPT OUT TO ANOTHER PROMOTER!!!!!

I'm a fan of Prizefighter in moderation and wouldn't mind some new tournaments.

massive success story Iif he never goes bk to crime. Brother in law was on same wing and said he was soundest guy you could meet...had a lot of time for younger kids, tryin to put em right. Bumped into him in local supermkt the day after he won international or whateva and he was wearing the belt!! However I dont think this was an act of arrogance more so I think the man was extremely proud of what he had achieved, more in turnin his life round than what hed won.

If that was the case wouldn't he have quit against the Frenchman who spent rounds smashing him around, only for Towers to come back and win. His heart looked ok then.

He is prob earning a wage as a professional sparring partner and doesn't need the hassle of fighting and selling tickets. His level was shown against Browne and Tony so that the promoters aren't going to invest in him.

He dropped the Frenchman 4 times , hardly got punched around the ring.

Towers got absolutely battered in one of the rounds. I recall thinking that if there were ever a 10-7 round without a knockdown, that was it.
