In 1967 tough Philly Middleweight 'Bad' Bennie Briscoe traveled to Buenos Aires, Argentina to take on future World Middleweight Champion Carlos Monzon.
As whe know they fought to a Draw. Does anyone know more about this fight? Was it filmed? Was a Draw a fair decision?
I read somewhere that it was a bit of a home town verdict.
I'll try and find some info on this... don't think it was widely publicised though... Monzon was unknown more or less and Briscoe was still a rising star rather than the cult favourite that he was by the 70s...
what'd I'd give to have a film of this bout!!!! 8)
I have the Ring magazines from that period stored "somewher".... I'll see if I can dig them out and find a report.
However one might logically assume that if Briscoe got a draw on Monzon's home turf that he probably deserved a win! Apologies if this is the "most obvious statement of the year so far"!
