Post by Evander »

He's been knocked down, is he a boxer that can be knockdown in a flash or worn down over a period of time.

Both, depending on the circumstances, including the opponent.

Are you basing that on the Chilemba fight? I disagree. Krusher has decent defense, imo. He rarely has to use it though. That said, he needs to hurt SOGgy relatively early or he will be outboxed.

I've seen nothing to suggest it's glass but I'm not sure this is going to matter with an opponent like Ward. As was said earlier, Kovalev needs to put the brakes on Ward early with his power otherwise it could be a long night for Kovalev. Kovalev is skilled enough but he doesn't have Ward's athleticism/footwork.

It seems average-ish to me.

He was also knocked out in amateurs. I agree with "average" ranking.

- Wilt had more athleticism, footwork and natural attributes than any boxer in history could ever conceive, enough to intimidate Ali into refusing to sign their fight contract on a live broadcast. Ward the waif ain't no Wilt.

What Oakland officials and most chamber pots posting here love above all else are run, duck, and foul, so Russians expect the deck is stacked. Point in fact Kov is the better boxer as measured when men were still men and no amount of bleating by Mary's little lambs can change that. Stephenson for all his cowardice makes a much better fight than the Ward soiled effort.

Part of Kovalev's defense is the right hand coupled with the fact he's a power puncher who routinely backs up when approached from an angle he doesn't like. Keeps the right in play and his opponents honest.

He will get KO'ed soon though.
He routinely throws punches with no regard to defense,
and he completely squares up after he throws.
That's why Stevenson would have been a better match up than people think.
Kovalev is better, but one of his weaknesses is Stevenson's strength.

These threads calling into question the chins of fighters who have had 30, 40, 50 fights and never been stopped are such futile exercises.

The place chins are checked is in the ring. Not on forums

Could mean something. Could not, if you consider Tim Bradley was stopped in the amateurs.....by Andre Berto of all people.

Wilt? omg whatever  If he was as good as you say, he would have made money doing it. Why didn't he call out Foreman?

Nothing wrong with Kovalev's chin. It's rare for any boxer to not get rocked or knocked down at some point in their career. I hear all the time what a glass chin Wilder has, but no one has KO'd him yet. Now Amir Khan? Yes, he has a suspect chin.

He has a decent chin I'd say. He's been over but that means nothing. Joe Calzaghe was down a good few times and he could take a full bloodied shot no problems!

Kovalev has never been knocked down... Blake Camparello stepped on his foot and the referee mistakenly called it a knock down... A lot Internet trolls also go around saying Darnell Boone knocked him down... Boone knocked Andre Ward down -- and knocked out Adonis Chickenson -- but never floored Kovalev.
