Yes. Or at the very least he wasn't at all motivated to fight Mundine, otherwise he would have made him a decent offer.

There is a pattern here: Calzaghe has not fougth a decent slick evasive counterpuncher in his entire career - not once. Because they don't suit his style. He prefers opponents who stand in front of him, such that he can slap them into the ground with his superior handspped.

Mundine ain't worth shite outside of Australia it was low money but he could expect millions outside of Australia and if he thought Calzaghe was only good against guys like Ashira etc, why didn't he take the offer?

Other than Echols he doesn't have any good wins over anyone as he fights guys with journymen recrods. If he beats Green I'll change my opionion.

ViciousMaussa I agree with your paragraph about Ottke not being a hof though but Kessler still needs work as Calzaghe had promising starts and loo what people say about him. Still a bit premature with him. I think he could win against Beyer easily though like Calzaghe and Lacy would.

Pundit Veit may not be so top 10 but what has Mundine done to be proven better? Least Veit was more eager to take him on.

I think kessler has great promise. he's been dominating world class fighters for a while - experienced smaller guys (Thobela and JC Green) & above average men like Siaca, Mundine (ok, he didn't dominate AM) & Lucas. what i like is he was razor sharp in his last fight, even after the back problems, and has a solid outside game that should keep him around for a long time.

by contrast, look at Lacy who I expect will burn out after a few hard fights/when his prime passes.

also, MK seems eager to break into the American market, willing to travel for fights, and has called for unifications. If beyer had the same attitude they'd be doing exactly what Calzaghe & Lacy are doing. obviously, we have to wait & see what happens when he's put in a major fight...

imo he has the tools and the mentality to really be something. i expect that Kessler won't take the easier routes that Calzaghe and Ottke sometimes took. like Lacy, he doesn't seem to have protective handlers & seems to want to go the extra mile, i.e. making fights that ppl want to see


obviously there was plenty of big talk along thes elines about Calzaghe when he beat Eubank. As that Boxing Monthly editorial a few months back reminded us, Joe even said he didn't want to just defend a WBO title, "that'd be too easy"

Lacy offered Kessler a short notice fight when Calzaghe hurt his hand. Kessler was recovering from a back problem that had fucked his training up for Mundine. Kessler and his ppl were prepared to take the fight two ways. Come to America and have most of the money. Have it in Denmark where Lacy has most of the bread. What happened? lacy and his front runner promoter Shaw pretended that the latter didn't happen, so it looked like Kessler didn't want the fight. When someone in Lacy's camp had let it slip that he wouldn't be ready for MK till '07.

Lucas was faded but like Reid he still looked pretty strong. Slowed down but not shot - I've seen the fight and he didn't look shot.

Thanks for clarifying this - with all the facts on the table (and not only the part some prefer to remeber) it's obvious that it was LACY who didn't want that fight. Whether Lacy was just ducking Kessler, or whether it is because the Calzaghe option appeared more lucrative at this juncture - implying that Lacy went for money rather than the challenge - we'll find out in the next couple of years. IF Lacy beats Calzaghe, that is.
