Joe Joyce robbed in final??
I think he got robbed, I think he just nicked it! Another bad decision imo.
Re: Joe Joyce robbed in final??
I thought it was close, I wouldn't call it a robbery. Could've definitely went either way though.
Re: Joe Joyce robbed in final??
So do I.
I had Joe winning rounds 1 and 3. He should be the Olympic gold medallist IMO.

Re: Joe Joyce robbed in final??
He was absolutely robbed, the commentators were saying how good a round Joyce had and that Yokai as wobbled, he was pressuring him throughout the whole round and then he lost it...they commentators couldn't believe it.
Same with the third round aswell.
I'm seeing all comments that say he was robbed, I was watching it with my dad he said he was robbed.
I know they've had problems yet again with the boxing judges being corrupted, they had to have been paid off again.

No robbery but Joyce deserved it.
Yoka is a favourite with the AIBA though. He got lucky in the semi-final and also in the world championships. He's nothing special

I can´t believe people are saying Joyce was robbed. He was totally ineffective. Yoka fought a smart fight and deserved the victory. And the World Championships bout was even more clear than this one. The WCH final against Dychko might have been a bit controversial though.

Your sentence contains an oxymoron. You can't declare "robbery" and in the same breath say "he just nicked it!"In the know 85 wrote:I think he got robbed, I think he just nicked it! Another bad decision imo.
It was a case of your personal preference: workrate vs. quality. The fight could have been scored either way.
Re: Joe Joyce robbed in final??
I thought Joyce won the 1st and 3rd rounds cleanly, especially the 1st round.

People in UK forget the judging in LONDON 2012.
Skip to 51mins to see the second round of Joshua Savon in last 16 of London 2012. Score the round in old amateur format (1 point per scoring punch landed) and see how you have it compared to how judges had it....

Re: Joe Joyce robbed in final??
It's not an out and out robbery because it was a competitive fight but... Joyce DID win that. That went to the wrong guy in most people's opinion.
Never mind.

How do you know that "most people's opinions" had Joyce winning the fight?clopixolacuphase wrote:That went to the wrong guy in most people's opinion.

If you look at the discussions on here, most people thought Joe won. How else would I know? Telepathy? Guesswork?Enlightened-One wrote:How do you know that "most people's opinions" had Joyce winning the fight?clopixolacuphase wrote:That went to the wrong guy in most people's opinion.

The majority of BoxRec’s visitors are from the UK, with the remainder predominantly from the US (as per Alexa).clopixolacuphase wrote:If you look at the discussions on here, most people thought Joe won. Assuming the US members of the forum couldn’t care less about this bout, you have to assume that British patriotism introduced an unreasonable amount of bias in the opinions of some of the people that have posted comments in this thread, since Joyce’s opponent was French.
I wouldn’t have assumed the opinion of the “majority”, based on only a handful of comments posted in this thread that were probably submitted by Brits with a patriotic bias, but that’s just me being pedantic.

Yeah… apologies for that!clopixolacuphase wrote:You think?Enlightened-One wrote: that’s just me being pedantic.
It’s unreasonable of me to ask the reason why someone is claiming the global “majority of people’s opinions”.
Re: Joe Joyce robbed in final??
Yoka should not be in finals. Joyce vs Hrgovic should be final match. Anyway, if you look at Usyk - Joyce fight from WSB you will see that 91+kg division in amateur boxing is in crisis. Ivan Dychko was sooo awful, half of these super heavies are in terrible shape

I’d be more impressed if you can find articles published by the French media supporting your global “majority” claims.
By the way, the sources you quote aren’t exactly considered reputable.

I agree it was a robbery. Barely faced returns from Yoka.

Close fight, I thought Joyce edged it. I wouldn't call it a robbery.
Yoka-Hrgović and Tishchenko-Levit were definitely robberies.

Re: Joe Joyce robbed in final??
Joyce did win the fight. But since when does earning a victory mean your going to get it, especially in the Olympics. It's horseshit, and another problem is these observers casting doubt and not calling it what it is. A bad decision. All this eh it was close coulda went either way, No. One guy won, if he doesn't get it, it's a bad fornicating decision. That riding the fence bullshit opinion is empty and worthless.
Re: Joe Joyce robbed in final??
very poor decision - in reality JJ did enough to win the fight - therefore he was robbed of the medal he really ought to have won
