I'll buy a thesaurus for the rematch...I need a new word for maul.[/quote]
Concise Oxford English has "tear the flesh; handle roughly"
To win a round 10-8 without a knockdown you have to hammer your opponent pillar to post, not merely hurt them with a couple of shots.Max Molyneux wrote:Should of been 10 - 8 to Danny My T sharp in the 12th.
How the hell can you say the ref was disgraceful? He was very generous to Skelton.
Yeah I agree a rematch would be good and it deserves one.
Danny had the better repertoire of shots in the contest. He had a crisp left jab and a long left hook, and later followed the left jab with a right over the top and got the left working to the body...so yes Danny had all the skill.jamesmcdonnell wrote:I am staggered that anyone could think the commentators were biased towards Danny, far from it.
You people need to try watching with the sound off, Skelton's mauling and fouling was disgraceful, he constantly pulled Danny on, waded in with his head, held danny and hit him, and pushed him over the top rope on numerous occasions.
Very few of Skelton's shots landed with any real conviction, most of them didn't even land, and those that did were often on the shoulders or arms, or didn't land with the knuckle part of the glove.
Every time Skelton landed a glancing blow, Rawling and McKenzie would start screaming "DANNY'S GONE! HIS LEGS HAVE BUCKLED" then on the replay you would see the shot barely grazed him and he was just off balance.
I had Williams winning that one easy, yes there were a lot of close rounds, but Danny picked up a lot of rounds with the jab alone, because there were a lot of rounds where little was landed.
People seem to seem to think you win rounds merely for coming forward, but you have to be effective and charging into your opponent and leaning on them is not actually effective aggression.
Agreed, the commentators were either biased towards Skeleton or they couldn't tell the difference between a shot that landed and 1 that didnt. Danny punches were really clean but Skeleton was the stronger and the aggressor and the 1 coming forward and throwing more (but landing less) - which is why some gave him rounds he looked like he was doing more damage even if he hardly landed anything.jamesmcdonnell wrote:I am staggered that anyone could think the commentators were biased towards Danny, far from it.

It was probably worse in his dayFreiheit wrote:We are getting the fight now on scandinavian TV. This is the worst referee I have seen for a very very long time.
I mean any decent referee would have started to take points off after a few rounds. Its mostly Skelton that is guilty but Williams has his moments.jamesmcdonnell wrote:In what way Freiheit, I thought he was apalling in allowing Skelton to foul the smeg out of Williams, I mean he planted a deliberate headbutt on Williams in the 1st fornicating round, and continued to maul, push, wrestle, butt, all the way through the fight.
I didnt score it but Danny won at least 7. From memory I gave Williams easily the 1,4,5,6,12 the only clear Skeleton rounds were 2,3 and 1 mid round and 1 late round. Williams won 2-3 others and you could make a case for 8 rounds. Skeleton walked forward and threw allot but Dannys punches landed crisply whereas Skeletons didnt land well very often at all.My T Sharp wrote:Danny had the better repertoire of shots in the contest. The problem was that Danny's speed and workrate were terrible. Skelton was crowding him with slow shots and everytime was looking for the uppercut. I gave Skelton the early rounds on merit because Danny started slow, then Danny got back into it before Skelton got back at him in some close rounds which I scored the Skelton because he was setting the pace, obviously Danny got the last which got me to 115-114.
I scored it as an even fight, whereas normally close rounds I would give to the beltholder, so it isn't a scandalous decision...it's just that Danny's workrate wasn't impressive enough for me. 8)
Danny is so immobile and leaden footed these days, Skelton was able to tag him easily on the occasions when he did throw a straight armed shot, at one point Williams just stood staring at Skelton, as if taunting him and got drilled right in the mush withPhenomenal-Nutrition wrote:Agreed, the commentators were either biased towards Skeleton or they couldn't tell the difference between a shot that landed and 1 that didnt. I just got in from watching it at a mates house. Had Danny winning clearly either 7-5 or 8-4. Skeleton should have been docked points. The last round was a debateable 10-8 - Skeleton was hurt and wobbling but I wouldnt score it a 10-8.
Danny won this at 271, imagine what a 250 Danny would do. A 250 Danny would be a world class fighter. Hes had some career already.
