Idris Elba boxing?
Idris Elba boxing?
What's the story here? I read in the Daily Mail website that he is having his boxing debut on Wednesday. Is Luther going to be the new Freddy Flintoff? Has anyone heard anything about this?

I haven't heard anything, but I'm guessing a white-collar charity event?

Apparantly his fight went down to "The Wire" and the crowd was so wild that they couldn't hear the (Stringer) bell
Sorry mods i accept any ban forthcoming![[icon_e_sad.gif] :verysad:](./images/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif)

Hopefully he fights Joshua, can't stand the smug bellend. Irritating as hell.
Re: Idris Elba boxing?
I've not really seen many interviews of him away from screen. I liked him in Luther thoughjamesmcdonnell wrote:Hopefully he fights Joshua, can't stand the smug bellend. Irritating as hell.

He was being interviewed once about the Mandela movie, and he said something along the lines of "one of my friends pointed out, that I was a little like Mandela, as I'd had to overcome lots of hardships."Stuarty30 wrote:I've not really seen many interviews of him away from screen. I've hated him with a vengeance ever since - pompous pudendum.
Re: Idris Elba boxing?
No wonder! That is an extremely cúnty statement to come away with! His mate probably said to him 'hey Dris you're a little like Mandela because you're both black and male' pffft!jamesmcdonnell wrote:He was being interviewed once about the Mandela movie, and he said something along the lines of "one of my friends pointed out, that I was a little like Mandela, as I'd had to overcome lots of hardships."Stuarty30 wrote:I've not really seen many interviews of him away from screen. also, anyone using the 'my friends tell me.... (I'm just too caring/ brilliant/ well hung)' conceit, to smuggle in self-praise, is contemptible in the extreme
Re: Idris Elba boxing?
Well.....two things here: I’d want to know what his actual words were and also what his hardships involved.Stuarty30 wrote:No wonder! That is an extremely cúnty statement to come away with! I’m not knocking anyone on here but I’d want more than that before I wrote a person off. It could have just been a complete brain fart. Anybody would sound like a bit of a tit comparing their life to that of a man who was jailed on a frickin island for 27years.
Only seen him in Luther a few times but when he did that Sky advert, which are very popular with the celebrities these days.....“I can watch me boxsets and eat me popcorn each night, on demand..” .... I thought that was quite cringey, bet then he will have received an absolute massive wedge of cash for that. I don’t blame him one bit.
He ought to forget fighting at his age....there’s too much confusion in my eyes between what boxing looks like - and the reality of it, imo.

I either read it in an interview, or saw it on TV, forget which, it's out there somewhere if you want to find it I'm sure.magwitch wrote:Well.....two things here: I’d want to know what his actual words were and also what his hardships involved.Stuarty30 wrote:No wonder! I had a mate who was trying to talk me into going into white collar boxing, I was like "mate, I'm 45, you're off your nut, and you shouldn't think about it either." It's one thing getting a spanking in your 20's or even 30's, but unless your a former athlete in great nick, I think it's ludicrous to think about lacing them up at that age.
I remember meeting some big fat ex rugger type who was doing white collar, he was about 2 stone overweight, 47 and he was standing there pissed as a fart, telling me about it, I asked him when the fight was, he said "3 weeks time" his opponent was about 10 years younger than him, and an ex marine, needless to say, when I saw him a few weeks later in the same pub, he told me how he got the living shit kicked out of him and stopped. People really think they can just take up boxing like it's squash, it mystifies me.

The poor thespian. Must have been tough overcoming stage fright.
Re: Idris Elba boxing?
It is weird, I really enjoyed Luther but am not keen on Idris in real life - he comes across as a right smarmy pudendum to me.
Also it seems that he actually thinks that he "is" Luther - you know, like them divvies in Lock Stock a few years ago who started walking around and talking as if they were gangsters in real life.
Just waiting for Barry Mcguigan to get involved and come out with his usual "if I met him when he as 25 he would be a world champion" bollocks

Re: Idris Elba boxing?
They had him on Talksport a few months back to talk about football, bang on a primetime slot, I think Arsenal in particular. He knew feck all current about his club. I think he was just whored on there by his agent. Wooden as feck !!
The next Bond you can bet, and only because he's black they say. Is that not racist in itself?

I`m no racist, however if I ever set foot in the ring with Elba I`d clout the bejaysus out of him. Thespians make me so angry they make me thoisty.
Re: Idris Elba boxing?
Just like how that Tess Daley positioned herself to be top presenter on the dancing programme when Brucie retired based on the wimmin sexism BBC vote, Idris is positioning himself for the Bond job based on his colour with the PC brigadeSAPFO wrote: The next Bond you can bet, and only because he's black they say. Wonder if Idris used to plant bombs that killed women and kids and set fire to tyres placed around the necks of his enemies as well...
