Please also take into account that commentating on anything is not as easy as it looks. Set yourself a little test gentlemen? turn the tv down and say/commentate on what you see out loud for 5 minutes. Then be brave enough to come back on here and be honest about how you rated.
I guarantee your will not find it easy to continually talk without pausing. Its a skill/trade that takes years to perfect.
Agreed. Though you don't need to continually talk without pausing. Ronald and many other commentators need to understand that.
i think its totally understandable that anyone would do that, though. dead air must seem terrifying.

I done what you suggested and gave this a try but I done it with some porn instead of boxing. Unfortunatly you were right I couldn't last 5 minutes

Yes, that's true - however, with some more work, he could be a much better commentator, one thing that does impress me, is that he always seems to have done his homework before the bout, and be well informed about the competitors, I know this is pretty standard, but it's not always the case, I've heard plenty of boxing commentators fumbling In the past because they had failed to prepare.

yes, he seems very good at always knowing which qualification tournament an individual has qualified in, and so on, also seems to have pretty good knowledge of the european and world championships.

Most people here would be awful, which is why they wouldn't make it to air.
The problem is Ron himself is awful, so why does he make it to air? I think most people know the answer to this question.
He seems a decent bloke and probably gets more stick than he deserves, but he doesn't help himself with phrases like "current reigning silver medalist"

I'm going to do a little experiment, and record myself over a fight if I get time. Obviously I won't have a co-commentator to work with.
Please do. I think it would really help to understand how difficult a job commentating can be. I'd be interested to know how you get on.

Your right I have worked with quite a few commentators and pundits over the years and have to say Ron is as accomplished as any of them when it comes to research.

I'm the same I don't mind his commentary
Me too.
I don't really focus too much on commentators; I concentrate more on the fighting.

I'll definitely give that to him, he always knows the boxers in front of him very well. What needs work is his style. Says far, far too much in the most longwinded fashion imaginable.
Have quite warmed to him and his passionate manner, plus its actually quite impressive to hear commentary that is almost poetic, has anyone heard him calling other sports ?
