Re: Luke Campbell vs. Derry Mathews - October 15th 2016
Hearn's been very generous to Luke with this one
Re: Luke Campbell vs. Derry Mathews - October 15th 2016
Wow fair play to both guys! Excellent match up! Campbell will have his hands full with Derry! I thought Campbell was going to be top notch but I'm not as convinced as I was after his performances against Mendy and Mendez. This fight makes the Bellew v Flores card watchable now.

Tommy Coyle was winning every round against Derry.Im a fan of DM hes a fornicating warrior but i cant see him giving Campbell any problems whatsoever.Stuarty30 wrote:Why not?LancashireLoyal wrote:im not liking this fight as much as everyone else tbh
Re: Luke Campbell vs. Derry Mathews - October 15th 2016
Terry Flanagan never got it all his own way against Derry and he holds a win over current world champ Crolla. If Matthews is in the mood he can definitely cause Campbell some problems. I can't see him winning but it could be another tough night for Luke. I went for Campbell on points in the poll.LancashireLoyal wrote:Tommy Coyle was winning every round against Derry.Im a fan of DM hes a effing warrior but i cant see him giving Campbell any problems whatsoever.Stuarty30 wrote:Why not?LancashireLoyal wrote:im not liking this fight as much as everyone else tbh

I wouldnt be hugely shocked if Campbell got chinned. Was dropped against Mendy and dropped against Mendez. Neither of whom are particularly big punchers. I reckon Matthews hits as hard if not a little harder than those two.
Would be amusing to see another golden boy derailed.

not for me.I want Campbell to do well, ive watched him as amateur, all his fights as a pro id like to see him become a world champion one day.but id also like to see him win the British title aswell which is something he said only a few months ago was what he wanted to do over the summer.Hearn was also flapping his gums about the British title just a few months ago.Hearn seems to think they are going to go for the world title in the next three fights aswell.Mendez was a good opponent for him, maybe too good because he obviously "slowed down" in the last 10 rounds of the fight...but now this.something smells about all this situation..... ![[icon_shame.gif] :shame:](./images/smilies/icon_shame.gif)

Decent fight, Campbell has flattered to decieve since turning pro.
Derry will ask questions of him that he will need to answer in style if he is half as good as he and Eddie say he is.

Good fight, Campbell has looked great, less the loss when he stepped up in class against the Frenchman. The Frenchmans style was all wrong for him though. Matthews has fought at featherweight so the Olympian will enjoy the natural size advantage.

CAMPBELL boxed at bantum weight wen he won a gold medal so their won't b a size advantage. Matthews has boxed at lightweight since 2011.......
Re: Luke Campbell vs. Derry Mathews - October 15th 2016
Hard to believe he was a bantam four years ago! He's big for 135 as well. Derry looks big at LW too considering he was a feather at the beginning of his career.maley1984 wrote:Coco wrote:Good fight, Campbell has looked great, less the loss when he stepped up in class against the Frenchman. Yeah size won't come into. Imo if Campbell can take derry power it's a wide points win. But derry will b dangerous at anytime. It's not a fight I'm that interested in.
Re: Luke Campbell vs. Derry Mathews - October 15th 2016
A few people have said that. I'm quite looking forward to it. A Motivated Matthews could make it a right hard nights work for Campbell. I wasn't impressed with Campbell against Mendez. Maybe I was expecting too much of him.maley1984 wrote:Stuarty30 wrote:Hard to believe he was a bantam four years ago! He's big for 135 as well. Bantum is only one division below Lightweight in the amateurs as there is no featherweight division.maley1984 wrote:Coco wrote:Good fight, Campbell has looked great, less the loss when he stepped up in class against the Frenchman. Not that it matters, both men are big lumps at lightweight.

Re: Luke Campbell vs. Derry Mathews - October 15th 2016
If Campbell has serious title intentions, then he should be handling Matthews with relative ease at this stage of Derry`s career.
I have not been blown away by Campbell at all to be honest. He can box, but I think he lacks power for the top flight. Seems a bit of a one trick pony when things don`t go his way. I just can`t see him toughing it in a trench war. That said, the lightweight division is not that hot these days, so you never know.

No offence but an Olympic gold medalist with world title aspirations should be blitzing the likes of Matthews at this stage (especially given Matthews age and mileage).
Good fight for Matthews though, nothing to lose and he likes a row - just the kind of opponent that Campbell doesn't need, which says a lot about his own prospects

To be fair Matthews is only 32 which in the scheme of professional boxing isn't that old anymore. I agree regarding the mileage though.bripez wrote:No offence but an Olympic gold medalist with world title aspirations should be blitzing the likes of Matthews at this stage (especially given Matthews age and mileage).

It the boards fault Campbell isn't Fightin for the British. I can not see why he was made mandatory instead of Hooper.LancashireLoyal wrote:not for me.I want Campbell to do well, ive watched him as amateur, all his fights as a pro id like to see him become a world champion one day.but id also like to see him win the British title aswell which is something he said only a few months ago was what he wanted to do over the summer.Hearn was also flapping his gums about the British title just a few months ago.Hearn seems to think they are going to go for the world title in the next three fights aswell.Mendez was a good opponent for him, maybe too good because he obviously "slowed down" in the last 10 rounds of the fight...but now this.something smells about all this situation.....
Very fortunate for Cardle though it was obvious in an IFl interview Gallagher had zero interest in tha fight.

Not at male senior level. Featherweight only exists for women and juniors.littlepug wrote:There Is a featherweight division in the AMskeirw wrote:Bantum is only one division below Lightweight in the amateurs as there is no featherweight division.maley1984 wrote:

I don't mind this fight even though Derry is past his best I can still see him being competitive.
Campbell it seems will never live up to all the original hype after his performances vs Mendy and then Mendez who's tactics after dropping Campbell still fcukin baffle me.
Campbell UD.
