Thomas Hearns v Sugar Ray Leonard 2
So the fight was a draw. Ray down twice in the fight.
How did you guys see the fight? Did Hearns deserve the win?

Tommy definitely won, I had 115-111. Not too many swing rounds in the fight. Close and clear.

A definitely big time win for the great Thomas Hearns! A draw my ass!
Re: Thomas Hearns v Sugar Ray Leonard 2
I had it 114-112 Hearns. Could've been a draw without the 2 knockdowns, but the 2 knockdowns definitely give Tommy the edge

Leonard could have had a 2 pt round in the 12th if not for the fact that Tommy had him hurt pretty seriously at the start of the round.Primadonna BS and fake personna aside, Ray was one of the toughest SOB's to ever enter a ringgilgamesh wrote:I had it 114-112 Hearns. I was sure that Leonard would win the 2nd fight even more comprehensive
But I was sure wrong it was a WAR that The Hitman surely won

True. And this is also why it's so gauling that he helped fukk up boxing in his later careerSaadOffTheDeck wrote:Leonard could have had a 2 pt round in the 12th if not for the fact that Tommy had him hurt pretty seriously at the start of the round.Primadonna BS and fake personna aside, Ray was one of the toughest SOB's to ever enter a ringgilgamesh wrote:I had it 114-112 Hearns. I had Hearns winning, I think most people did, even SRL later admitted he thought Hearns should've got the decision.

Hearns won the fight, but Leonard made it closer than many think.
Both were past their respective bests, but they brought the best out in each other.
Tommy learned a valuable lesson from their first fight & that's how he was able to survive at the end when Sugar was laying it on him.

Too true.
Re: Thomas Hearns v Sugar Ray Leonard 2
Tommy was whaling away as tim ryan put it ,that first minute.i dont recall ray landing one punch that first minute of the 12th.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Leonard could have had a 2 pt round in the 12th if not for the fact that Tommy had him hurt pretty seriously at the start of the round.Primadonna BS and fake personna aside, Ray was one of the toughest SOB's to ever enter a ringgilgamesh wrote:I had it 114-112 Hearns. His toughness and heart is what elevates ray more so than his flamboyant speed and skills to one of the very top ATG"s...
Re: Thomas Hearns v Sugar Ray Leonard 2
The fight showed the vulnerability of both fighters... Hearns was rocking and reeling all over the ring without going down.. Leonard tagged Tommy up real good.. Leonard was making faces at Hearns when he was decked by a sharp right -- he could have done better I thought.. Leonard-Duran III was more than 9 years after their 1st battle.. Nobody cared.. There was no reason in the world to do the fight.
I imagine Terry Norris was watching Leonard's efforts v Hearns and Duran and licking his lips... He told an interviewer "Leonard can't beat me. He's an old man."

Norris also once said of hearns. ."hell no, why would I?"
Re: Thomas Hearns v Sugar Ray Leonard 2
No great surprise he said that, Hearns would have obliterated him IMO. Norris wanted to fight ChavezSaadOffTheDeck wrote:Norris also once said of hearns. ."hell no, why would I?"

Terry would have fought anyone. I should be more careful making fun of kalan. Terry would have smoked Chavez.bollox wrote:No great surprise he said that, Hearns would have obliterated him IMO. Re: Thomas Hearns v Sugar Ray Leonard 2
The srl of the norris fight had deteriorated considerably from the 3rd duran fight.......ray himself says "this time the lengthy inactivity, the divorce from juanita, making the weight kicked my ass but the ankle problem i should have cancelled the fight"
Norris is the most overrated fighter on boxing past forums ,theres a nut online called rooster who spends 24/7 singing terrys praises.
He was only good at beating shot fighters like srl, curry, and mugabi and brown. Brown did him ,and a totally finished curry still managed to outbox him in places before he got worn down.
The santana madness, the sudden deterioration and losses to average fighters. His career would have been ended earlier if he ever fought pernell, ike or tito in 96.

His resume is definitely over valued. He was very talented though. I don't hold that against Leonard or much rate it for Terry.
