Dentay Wilder vs Chris Byrd

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Who wins it and how?

I think Byrd on points.

Byrd was a tricky opponent for anyone with great movement, went the distance with Wlad, Tua, Golota, McCline among others.

As of this moment, Wilder has not shown us enough to say that he could deal with s dlick customer like Byrd.

Byrd wins by UD.

Wilder by wide ud. Laughable how many posters use size in mythical fights over skills. It would matter here. Deontay isn't much in the grand scheme, but he's tougher and punches harder than vitali.byrd literally can't win.

- Laughable is when your lumped rump cracks toilet seats and flattens O ring seals to make it splatter.

Get back to us whenever Bronze Bambi defends against a legit contender. It matters.

I don't like Wilder because he he's fighting horrid challengers... But I figure Malik Scott vs Chris Byrd would be a close fight... And Deontay Wilder versus Chris Byrd would be a complete and utter destruction.. an annihilation.. The reason is hand speed ... and absolutely no fear of Byrd's punching power.

Scott was scared to death of Wilder because Scott can't hit.. Scott had ZERO to keep Wilder off of him. Neither did Liakhovich.. I think Povetkin matches up well versus Wilder because AP can hit...and he took out Byrd when he had 13 fights... Ibeabuch took out Byrd when he had 19 fights... Wilder would pin Byrd on the ropes and batter him until he's out cold... In 2 rounds Chris is gone.

The guys who would beat Wilder???? ... Ortiz is the first one, he'll destroy DW if he gets him in the next year.. Joshua will can his ass as well, absolutely knock DW out.. Fury has a fair chance to beat him.. Povetkin could possibly beat him, although I'm not convinced of this.. Haye would spell "Lights Out" for Wilder right now.. I think Wilder beats Parker -- and I believe he beats Klitschko.

Really interesting matchup - I could see it going either way, but one thing's for sure, Byrd is going to make Wilder look very clumsy.

Byrd wouldn't make Wilder look clumsy... He'd make him look invincible... Remember the Klitschko-Byrd fights??? Byrd couldn't do a damned thing because of the height, weight, reach, and punching power disparity... Wlad was just as fast as Byrd.. Byrd would get punched to death. Flat out, he'd get killed.

Remember Byrd's fight with DaVarryl Williamson??? ... Williamson had nothing going. He was knocked out by Kali Meehan, Ray Austin, Tony Grano, Joe Mesi, etc.. He couldn't defend himself and he couldn't box.. He was big and tall but not fast.. He was 6'4" X 220 and the only thing Williamson could do was hit fairly hard.. He hit hard enough to keep Byrd off of him.. Byrd barely beat him and it was the worst matchup anybody ever saw -- because Byrd never could hit and he couldn't attack.

Byrd could do nothing to Wilder and Wilder could do plenty to him -- such as rain shots down on him like Wladimir did, only a little faster.

Wilder is not very accurate with his punches. Even against opponents with poor defense. Chris Byrd would make him miss a whole lot, now obviously Wilder wouldn't have much to fear from Byrd in terms of power, and would be able to attack him and go for the KO for several rounds at full strength. I could very easily see Wilder catching and knocking out Byrd at one point, but I could also see Byrd making him miss so much and tiring him out and winning a narrow decision.

I'd favor Byrd to win a close decision if it were Byrd at his very best. Byrd's peak didn't last all that long, but he was very sharp defensively for a long time there, and he'd be able to make Wilder miss like an amateur on a lot of occasions. Much lesser defensively skilled fighters than Byrd have done the same.

Byrd would just have to make sure to throw enough punches to win rounds. You can't win a fight solely on defense.

Byrd was at his peak when an unfinished Ibeabuchi (19-0) crushed him.. Byrd was at his peak when an unfinished Wladimir (a lot of technical problems pre-Steward) whitewashed a prime Byrd in their 1st fight... What those 2 guys had over Byrd was size, power, and maybe even hand speed -- which made them easy winners.

Golota was very hittable.. very slow.. not too bright.. and a really poor boxer when he met Byrd... He had 4 losses including being knocked out by Lennox Lewis and Michael Grant... The only thing AG had over Byrd was size and strength -- in the way of height, weight, reach, and physicality... Golota would probably not last very long if he had Wilder shooting at his head, given that slow and clumsy Michael Grant was able to beat Golota up freely and stop him..

Why Byrd couldn't beat Golota? Who knows. For me it was because AG was bigger and stronger. Wilder has a few more things going for him than Golota did.. He's much taller.. He has a spectacular reach.. He's a powerful puncher.. He has good speed.. He hits like a SOB.. He has a pretty good jab.. and he's a pretty fair boxer -- all things that Golota didn't have or couldn't do.. So he blows Byrd away.

Golota and Wladimir are pretty sharp boxers. Wladimir was already a fantastic offensive fighter Pre-Steward it's the defensive end of his game that Steward helped him out on, the offense was there already.

Golota is a solid boxer with good skills, he just didn't have the mental fortitude to go as far as he could've. Byrd had virtually no punching power so that's one reason why he had so much hell with Golota, he couldn't really hurt him or hit him with anything to keep him at bay.

Well... Wladimir WAS a pretty sharp boxer, even pre-Steward.. and Steward helped him with a lot more than defense.. WK's stance, jab, footwork and defense all improved greatly under Steward.. But WK did have the smarts, athleticism and speed that Golota didn't have.. The raw material to succeed.

Golota was not a very sharp boxer... A sharp boxer doesn't get hammered out so quickly and easily by Lewis, Brewster, and Tyson. Those 3 were sharp boxers and punchers.. Golota wasn't.. And I was a little surprised that Byrd didn't dominate Golota and win a decision.. One of the reasons is, the referee let Golota get away with murder in that fight.. The only other reason is, Byrd was small, short, lacking in punching power, and just not strong enough to assert himself aggressively against a guy that size. I still had Byrd winning it.

Golata's boxing was pretty sharp..... his training was better than he was.

Golata's problem wasn't that his boxing was not sharp.....during moments of focus it was all pretty much there.

Golata's problem was that HE was not the sharpest crayon in the box.....an understatement actually.

One of the very rare breed of fighters who could win and lose a fight simultaneously.

Yeah he definitely wasn't all there mentally. Would mentally fold under pressure either by getting blasted out or resorting to fouling and dirty tactics until he was DQ'd. He seemed to have exorcised the Foul Demon by the time he went on his string of fights with Byrd, Ruiz and Brewster but it was too late to make a difference. He got the draw with Byrd, lost a close one to Ruiz (I thought he deserved the decision there) and then was blasted out by Brewster.

Nobody can win and lose simultaneously dummy... Golota never beat anyone the caliber of Lewis, Tyson, Brewster, Austin, Byrd, Grant, Ruiz, or even Bowe -- or beat any other 1st rate champion or 2nd rate slacker who he fought... He beat some 3rd raters and that's it... The man couldn't box or defend himself well.. Golota had a big head that demanded to be punched as so as the fight started -- no wonder he flat out quit or fouled out so often.

Byrd could have looked pretty good in the first half of the fight, but I guess, Wilder would have caught him in the second.
