just watching the first fight against Prescott and not seen Billy Walker fight before. Quite a tough rugged boxer really.
How do you think Walker would do today against the British heavies that are around. How would he fair with the world contenders today as well?
Billy Walker
Re: Billy Walker
Its difficult for people today to fully appreciate how well known Billy Walker was in the 'swinging sixties'.
Arguably he was the countries' most famous sports star, instantly recognisable ,and a money making machine. A 'David Beckham' if you will.
He was tough, brave and a solid puncher. Because it cost his promoter a huge sum to sign to him exclusively, his career could not be developed carefully. He had to be put into tough fights for the promoter to recover his money. He took a few hammerings , but the fans loved it.
Please watch his fight with Jack Bodell.

Re: Billy Walker
Would have been at a distinct size disadvantage. 6 foot,no more than 14 stone tops. But I think he'd have given a fair account against todays British heavyweights before that took its toll. More realistic would be how would he do at cruiser, the weight he'd probably be at if around today. I think he'd be 2nd only to Tony Bellew, maybe even higher than that. Would be a great scrap where Tony would have to box. Prescott was the same. Brian London was a bit better than those 2, and probably no bigger, though he sometimes weighed more.mimmy123 wrote:just watching the first fight against Prescott and not seen Billy Walker fight before. Billy would have been just too small for the guys at world level. Ortiz, thompson, etc would have made a mess of him though as always he would have tried.
