i've posted polls on the international forum numerous times, but i'm curious to get the british breakdown on how folks see the fight turning out...

I'd like to say Calzaghe cause I don't believe the hype around Lacy but I don't think Calzaghe will have the same sharpness he used to have and Lacy will probably stop him late, I reckon both guys will taste the canvas however.

With the poor recent comp, listless performances and injuries, you have to worry for Calzaghe. There will be no hiding from Lacy in there. But Calzaghe always has fought to the level of his opposition. It might be too late, and probably is, but if there's ever a fighter that could inspire the best from Calzaghe, it's Lacy. Lacy is making impressive improvements, but he's unfinished. what frame of mind will lacy turn up in - he could easily come in overanxious, make mistakes, & play into Calzaghe. I go for lacy as he has an unstoppable look and brings a lot of momentum. Plus, he's just about peaked loking at the Reid and Pemberton fights.

after watching Williams-Skelton it confirmed to me that Warren desn't put fights on that are worth watching. then i remembered this was happening.

Im saying Calzaghe by decision, Lacy doesnt impress me really, i think we'll see an amazing fight from Calzaghe and we'll give him the respect which he hasnt recieved from the British Public.

I think we'll see Lacy anxious to get an early KO in turn leaving him open and drained in later rounds. Calzaghe on points for me.

I know who loses: the super-middleweight division. The two weakest beltholders square off against one another to avoid tougher competition - and hope that the world would accept the winner as "champ". With quite some success, it seems.

Frank Allegedly got this one right.

PS: as for the result: Calzaghe TKO. I reckon his grit and handspeed will be too much for the strong but rough and unexperienced Lacy. I see a replay of the Mitchell fight, except that Lacy may endure a bit longer. I have no doubt that the fact that Lacy's style suits Calzaghe is the reason why team Calzaghe chose him for a "unifier" - after 10 years. All previous beltholders had been too risky for Calzghe. And Lacy must have a rather poor management.

This is a brilliant match-up. The best super-middleweight clash we've had for a while. Both men needing a test, and getting each other as the test. That's excellent news for us fans. I want Calzaghe to walk the walk, as he's done nothing but talk the talk all these years. He's been crying out to fight the best for some time. Now he's got the best. There's been no pull-out from hand trouble, so I assume training's gone well.

Hmmm....I really can't call it. I'm leaning towards Lacy, but I'll be over the moon if Joe does it.

i think markus beyer is for the taking.

beyer would get thrashed by someone like lacy and worked over by calzaghe as well.

i've never seen kessler fight, so i can't comment on him.

I have thought about this fight for quite a while. I am excited & a week to wait is too long, but I'll just have to be patient!

I reckon this is going to be an absolute slugfest, may even get fight of the year, although there are some great fights still to take place i.e. Castillo-Corrales 3 etc.

This is a genuine 50-50 fight. They say boxing can come down to hunger, determination, motivation etc. Bearing this in mind, I think Lacy wins, and by stoppage.

IMO, Lacy is a fighters-fighter - he genuinely wants to fight the best, does not care where or when etc.

Lacy by TKO round 7.

Maybe for the number 1 super-middleweight spot of the Allegedly boxing association.... And this title Calzaghe has held for a long time already...

IT'S not Jeff Lacy that frightens Joe Calzaghe, the subject of his fear is closer to home!

Wales' best-ever boxer admits he's far more apprehensive about pounding the roads of the Gwent valleys at the dead of night than coming face-to-face with his fiercest rival.

But forget the back-roads of South East Wales in the middle of the night.

Joe's got to get himself up and running for a unification scrap with Lacy that is set for 2:30am. Hence his willingness to pound the highways and by-ways when he should be tucked up in bed.

WBO king Calzaghe admitted: "I must ensure my body-clock is right. So I decided that my training routine should be as if I was living in America.

"For the past week or so I've been getting up early in the afternoon, training in the evening and going for runs at about one or two o'clock in the morning.

"I know it's meticulous preparation but I'm leaving nothing to chance.

"It's a bit of a pain because it's been so cold. Actually it's quite nice training at night as the roads are nice and clear. I've got my dad following behind me just in case I get mugged!

"You'd think no-one wouldn't want to mug a world champion boxer but there's always a smart a**e who'd have a go!

"The pain is that most of my waking hours are during the dark, I could do with a nice bit of sun on my back! But it's a small price to pay.

"My girlfriend Jo-Emma is great as she stays up to keep me company. But she chickens out of running! I have boxed at midnight before when I fought Chris Eubank for the vacant WBO belt in '97 but I didn't realise it would be so late. I didn't prepare like this then. Nevertheless, I still won!"

Record-breaking Calzaghe hopes to unify the super-middleweight division in Manchester next weekend when he goes into battle against unbeaten IBF and IBO belt-holder Lacy.

The 2000 Olympic boxer is the best possible opponent for Calzaghe and the Welshman, who has ruled a sparse division for eight years, is adamant he is ready.

"When I fight a poor opponent, my standard drops," he admits. "I was concerned that my lack of motivation against some of the fighters I've fought in the past could have caused an upset. I'm not a robot.

"When Byron Mitchell put me down in 2002 it was the first time that I'd been on the canvas. And I've been boxing since I was eight. That was the perfect wake-up call because I was starting to think I was Superman.

"Complacency can't happen now because Lacy is the best there is. If I can't get focused for Lacy, I can't for anyone. So this fight has come at exactly the right time for me in my career."

Should he dispose of Lacy, Calzaghe hopes to extend his career and look for a bumper pay-day in the States.

For now, he predicts next weekend's Lacy bout will be explosive: "I've still got the hunger and I feel better than I ever have.

"Experience counts in world title fights."

Lacy's promoter Gary Shaw sums up the expectation, saying:"I suggest nobody leave their seat for a soda pop."

The fight will be broadcast live on ITV 1.

The show starts at 11:10pm and highlights are on Sunday, March 5 at 11:25pm on ITV 1.

I think it's fair to say Calzaghe is possibly the best fighter to ever come out of Wales ( not the best managed though ) ok ok - Jimmy Wilde - but I've never seen footage of the ghost with a hammer so can't say.

Joe is defintely one of the best fighters to ever come out of the UK. I think most in the UK fight game would agree, even if he's none to popular for various reasons.

I think he'll cement his legacy in 5 days time....tick tick tick
