Another robbery for the record.

Russell robbed versus Gaibnazarov.

Also, although I didn't see it, many are saying that Conlan was robbed against Nikitin.

Gary Antuanne Russell vs Uzbekistan’s Fazliddin Gaibnazarov was a split. While I think the Uzbeks have been looking good in this tournament, I thought Gaibnazarov ran and held the whole fight and that Russell landed the sharper blows and should have received the decision.

I don't think Russell should've been in the quarterfinals anyway, although that doesn't excuse poor judging in subsequent bouts.

The crazy thing is AIBA is a promoter now and is the promoter of record for dozens of the fighters in the tournament. It's amazing to me that nobody mentions this.

Imagine if Top Rank were in charge of administering Olympic Boxing and all the Top Rank guys won and all the PBC etc. guys lost?

AIBA have dropped some judges because they were not of the required standard but no results will be amended.

AIBA has dropped judges, but who? No names released. However, the judges are listed for every match.

see here:

https://www.rio2016.com/en/boxing-schedule-and-results

Something changed today. A group of judges went missing, but who?

The magnificent 7 have been written about here:

http://www.fightnews.com/Boxing/the-pri ... t-i-345838
http://www.aibaproboxing.com/2012/10/29 ... nt-system/

BASI Mik
GALLAGHER Michael
SIDI YAKOUB Kheira
POGGI Gerardo
RYSBAYEV Rakhymzhan
MALYSHEV Vladislav

Of the 55 judging assignments that occurred on August 17th, exactly 0 were from the "magnificent 7." So 0/55 = 0 %

Two days prior, the 15th and the day of the Levit-Tischenko fight, "magnificent seven" judges were assigned 24 times out 135 total assignments -- 24/135 = 17%

So it seems clear tome that the Magnificent 7 -- all of them -- have been sent home.

Note that the third judge in the Tischenko - Levit fight, Armando Carbonnell, who put in the same (29-28 Tischenko) score as the two mag-seven judges (Gorny and Gallgher) was *not* dismissed. He was assigned 2 fights today.

Here's the complete list of the frequency August 17 assignments, ordered from lowest to highest. Note that all "mag seven judges" have a 0.

judge assignments
1 RYSBAYEV Rakhymzhan 0
2 ROOS Allan 0
3 WANG Meng 0
4 KHISHGEE Khas-Erdene 0
5 LIU Ming Li 0

AIBA benches top officials after Rio scandals

By Ognian Georgiev

After numerous controversial decisions at Rio Olympics, the AIBA has apperently benched seven of their most established referees/judges. Mik Basi (Gbr), Kheira Sidi Yakoub (Alg), Michael Gallagher (Ire), Mariusz Gorny (Pol), Vladislav Malyshev (Rus), Gerardo Poggi (Arg) and Rakhymzhan Rysbayev (Kaz) were leading the clique that Fightnews dubbed The Magnificent Seven (http://www.fightnews.com/Boxing/the-pri ... t-i-345838). They are still in Rio, but they are not officiating. These 5-star R/J were appointed after many scandals at London Olympics 2012. The AIBA announced that after the huge criticism around the world they made a strong decision.

“The AIBA R&J Commission has reviewed all decisions and determined that less than a handful of the decisions were not at the level expected and consequently it has been decided in accordance with the AIBA R&J evaluation committee that the concerned referees and judges will no longer officiate at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games,” was the official statement of the organization.

AIBA didn’t announce the name of the R/Js, but in Wednesday’s bouts no one from The Magnificent Seven worked during the session which consisted of 11 fights. They also weren’t put into the R/J’s lists for today matches.

AIBA was asked to explain why The Magnificent Seven were surprisingly left out of the R/J’s list, but the organization didn’t reply to Fightnews request.

Some of the clique members participated in the worst decisions in Rio.

Mariusz Gorny was one of the scoring judges in Vladimir Nikitin’s win against world champion at 56 kg division Michael Conlan (Ire). He gave 29:28 for the Russian. After the fight, the Irish star raised his middle finger toward another member of The Magnificent Seven Kheira Sidi Yakoub, who was the referee of the bout.

Yakoub was one of the three scoring judges in the gold medal bout between Evgeny Tischenko (Rus) and Vassiliy Levit (Kaz), She and Michael Gallagher gave the fight 29:28 for the Russian who was booed after the final decision and during awards ceremony. Gerardo Poggi was the referee of the fight.

The official from Argentina was once again the third man in the ring for one more controversial bout Mihai Nistor (Rom) vs Hussein Iashiash (Jor). The fighter from Jordan heard twice the knockdown count by the referee and was in a standing knockdown in the third round. Poggi did everything to give time for Iashiash to recover after some heavy blows.

With the appointment of the Magnificent Seven at the end of 2012 they took over the education of upcoming international R/J. They gave instructions on how to score and officiate the bouts.

“I am very pleased that we have found seven R&Js with such great achievements and outstanding performances in AIBA competitions over the last five years,” said Ching-Kwo Wu when introducing The Magnificent Seven.

The Magnificent Seven were appointment on a full contract basis. They receive a monthly salary of $5000. The 5-stars referees received additional benefits. They were working around the world in WSB and APB fight nights. For each WSB they received additional $500 and for APB $1000 per boxing gala. During competitions these R/J had some other privileges like sleeping in a single room, while the other officials were accommodated in double rooms.

RIO DE JANEIRO — Several referees and judges have been removed from the Olympic boxing competition after officials reviewed their decisions, fueling suspicion of dubious results in some matches at the Rio Games.

A spokesman for the federation that governs the boxing tournament said Wednesday that the names of the referees and judges who were dismissed, and the matches that were tainted, would not be released because he did not want to “besmirch their families.”

The international federation, known as AIBA, said in a statement that the committee that reviews officiating had assessed all 239 bouts at the Rio Games through Tuesday and had “determined that less than a handful of the decisions were not at the level expected.”

Now the AIBA top dog has been removed >>>

http://www.itv.com/news/utv/2016-08-18/ ... ntroversy/?

The head of Olympic boxing's governing body, AIBA, has been "reassigned with immediate effect" in the wake of judging controversy which has blighted the Rio Games.

AIBA confirmed its executive director would move to a new role within the organisation.

The decision follows the expulsion of a number of judges, believed to total six, from the Games in light of a series of officiating issues, chiefly involving defeats for Kazakhstan heavyweight Vassiliy Levit and Ireland's Michael Conlan.

One of those officials who is believed to have been sent home is another Algerian, Kheira Sidi Yakoub, who both refereed the Conlan fight and scored the heavyweight final in favour of Russia's Evgeny Tishchenko.

AIBA starts disciplinary action against officials

via Fightnews

AIBA starts disciplinary action against 5-star referee/judges, known as The Magnificent Seven, and the suspended executive director of the organization Karim Bouzidi. As Fightnews.com® previously informed, the president of the Olympic boxing Ching-Kwo Wu summoned his vice-presidents, the chairman of AIBA disciplinary commission Tom Virgets and the R/J evaluator for the Olympic competition in Rio Ray Silvas.

President Wu asked Tom Virgets to investigate The Magnificent Seven, who were removed in the middle of the Olympic tournament. Mik Basi (Gbr), Kheira Sidi Yakoub (Alg), Michael Gallagher (Ire), Mariusz Gorny (Pol), Vladislav Malyshev (Rus), Gerardo Poggi (Arg) and Rakhymzhan Rysbayev (Kaz) have been put under pressure and benched after several controversial bouts, including the infamous heavyweight final between Evgeny Tischenko (Rus) and Vasily Levit (Kaz). Three of the seven members of The Magnificent Seven officiated in that bout that was booed by the audience.

The contracts of the influential 5-star R/Js expire in November. They will not be extended. The members of The Magnificent Seven will not participate in the scheduled evaluation courses around the world, decided AIBA bosses. Initially, 5-star R/Js were the main speakers and teachers in those events. After the Olympics, AIBA will hold three courses – in Iran (September 20-26), in Romania (September 24-30) and in Germany (October 11-15).

There are two scenarios for the future of The Magnificent Seven, according to Fightnews.com® sources. The first one is that they will be relegated among 3-star R/Js. The second one is full termination of their services as AIBA officials. American Tom Virgets will have the leading role to decide if they are guilty of some improper actions during Rio Olympics and previous events.

Earlier today AIBA issued an official statement where was mention the possibility of returning to a 5-judge scoring system with cards. It was used for the last time in the Seoul Olympics 1988 and was changed after the controversial final between Roy Jones and Korean Si Hun Park. The scoring changes will be discussed further in the extraordinary AIBA Executive committee meeting that is scheduled for November.

One of the biggest problems in the AIBA is with its senior staff. The “reassigned” executive director Karim Bouzidi refused to resign, because he would lose some of his granted by contract payment, said president Wu during Lausanne meeting without pointing out the reason for surprising ban of the high official during Rio Olympics. Bouzidi also will be investigated by Tm Virgets for his connection with The Magnificent Seven.

In the absence of Karim Bouzidi, who hasn’t shown up at AIBA headquarters in Lausanne since the Rio Games, for temporary Executive Director was appointed AIBA PR & Communication Director William Louis-Marie.

The participating members of the urgent meeting in Lausanne requested that the organization parts ways with four important members of AIBA staff – AIBA legal director Cliodhna Guy, the managing director of APB (AIBA professional boxing) Mirko Wolf, AIBA sports director Kristin Brynilsdsen and WSB (World Series of Boxing) senior competition manager Mariana Caballero. The two ladies initiated a fist fight between themselves at the Rio Olympics that resulted with a big bruise on the face of Brynilsdsen.
