Brook's chance?
So what % are you giving Kell causing an upset?
Re: Brook's chance?
You have to give him a small (very small) chance as its only one man against another man and nothing's impossible. Brook has power, he's accurate and can move. He's not used to being pushed back though and in the first Jones fight he panicked a bit when Carson started to bully him. He's came on ten fold since then but GGG is also accurate and powerful and there'll come a point where he'll start to dictate the pace and find his range. Brook isn't elusive enough to keep away from GGG for 12 rounds and I've never seen GGG hurt at all so I just can't think of a realistic scenario where Brook wins this fight.
This would be the biggest upset I'd have witnessed in my lifetime if he somehow managed it but I'm sorry to say I just can't see it happening.

When this first got made I had the exact same feeling when Khan Canelo got made - a devastating win for GGG/Canelo - However when the hype starts and in the build up, you start to believe the Brit can do something, so I'm giving Kell a small chance..Stuarty30 wrote:You have to give him a small (very small) chance as its only one man against another man and nothing's impossible. I agree I've never seen GGG hurt, I think Kell's jab is under-rated, he's so accurate with it, but I don't think constantly trying to jab and move will cause GGG any problems at all. If Kell catches GGG with a good shot i think 9/10 it will be a body shot.

Out of interest, do you give Smith a bigger chance against Canelo than Brook?Stuarty30 wrote: This would be the biggest upset I'd have witnessed in my lifetime if he somehow managed it but I'm sorry to say I just can't see it happening.
Re: Brook's chance?
Brooks jab is excellent yeah. Hurtful and very accurate. He doesn't use it enough IMO. He'll need it in this fight that's for sure. I can't make a case for Brook but I'll be supporting him and next week I'll probably be thinking he can win it! I'm a fickle fecker at timesfightfan95 wrote:When this first got made I had the exact same feeling when Khan Canelo got made - a devastating win for GGG/Canelo - However when the hype starts and in the build up, you start to believe the Brit can do something, so I'm giving Kell a small chance..Stuarty30 wrote:You have to give him a small (very small) chance as its only one man against another man and nothing's impossible. Re: Brook's chance?
I give Smith a better chance than Brook because I think there's more chance of Canelo taking Smith lightly. I think Smith will have his moments in that one but let's face it there's no way he's coming away from there with a win even if he out boxes him over 12 or if it's close. I also think Canelo looks far too big for 154 now as well. Be interesting to see him at the weigh in. I just watched Canelo v Cotto again this morning and he looks massive and that was what nearly two years ago?fightfan95 wrote:Out of interest, do you give Smith a bigger chance against Canelo than Brook?Stuarty30 wrote: This would be the biggest upset I'd have witnessed in my lifetime if he somehow managed it but I'm sorry to say I just can't see it happening.

Re: Brook's chance?
I'm predicting an upset..... I can see GGG walking on to a couple early doors which could see him slow considerably.
I think Brook will have the power to stop GGG in his tracks and I think a cautious GGG thereafter is there for the picking.
or not....... 'fook do I know?

Re: Brook's chance?
According to Paddy Power, the likelihood of a draw and the underdog scoring an upset over the bookies favourites in both the GGG-Brook and Canelo-Smith bouts have the same odds: 3.8% (25/1) for the draw; and 16.7% (5/1) for the upset.fightfan95 wrote:Brook's chance?
Canelo is the slightly bigger betting favourite to win his bout, at 90.1% (1/9), than Golovkin’s 88.5% (1/8).
This seems to coincide with the current votes submitted in your poll.

30%, the GGG haters will be screaming exposed instead of giving credit to a very good fighter.

Depends on his mental condition. If he is confident, I would say it is 15-25%, but if he has Rubio's or Geale's state of mind, it is under 5%.
Re: Brook's chance?
I went with 11 to 25%, if Brook pulled this one off legitimately I'd be damn impressed.

Re: Brook's chance?
By the way, WBA declined to sanction the fight as a title defense, so if Golovkin loses, the super title will be vacant.

Me too. I'm surprised we're in the majority, or plurality actually.
Re: Brook's chance?
I chose 1-10% because even at less than 100% Golovkin has stopped tough guys like Rosado and Ouma he can adjust to it, an injury would have to be immediate and significant anyway that's pretty unlikely.
I think this is a case of Brook needing perfect execution the entire night, against a calculating and merciless puncher. The body shots are going to be Kell's kryptonite.

Re: Brook's chance?
This fight could happen 100 times and Brook wouldn't win once.
It's incredible the legitimacey this fight is being given, it's as big a mismatch as I can think of in recent ppv terms.

1-10%. I've always felt it's a huge mismatch and the closer the fight gets, the more convinced I am of that.
Re: Brook's chance?
I hope he proves me wrong , but give him zero chance , has anybody seen Golovkin remotely troubled by anything anybody has landed on him ?
How can he keep Golovkin at bay for for the duration ? If Kell makes a good account of himself and loses it's not the daft mismatch others say it is .

Re: Brook's chance?
Brook does have a good jab, and good combinations. How it affects a middleweight fighter remains to be seen.
I give both Brook and Smith no more than a 10% chance. Smith may 5%. GGG is at an age when he can get old overnight, like SRL did for example. Doubtful though.

Re: Brook's chance?
Brook's game is very reliant on his size and utilizing the clinch, something he is not going to have on GGG. This is going to be a Slaughter and I'm a Big Brook fan. Brook demands your respect for taking this fight.
One thing GGG is pretty reckless when he comes with lazy defense. I was appalled when GGG allowed Wade to get some shots in, this is a disaster waiting to happen. I hope he tries the same with Brook and he gets clipped.
I voted less than 10%, I think this fight should go less than 5 rounds

You’re not getting nervous are you?SaadOffTheDeck wrote:30%, the GGG haters will be screaming exposed instead of giving credit to a very good fighter.
I’m a self-confessed Golovkin fan but I feel compelled to support Brook (even though his resume stinks), because he’s a fellow Brit.
In my mind though, the GGG-Brook bout is a horrendous mismatch… and if this fight is remotely competitive, then I will consider Golovkin as "exposed."
In terms of my expectations, the bout will last as long as GGG wants it to, because he’ll try to put on a “big drama show” to impress and excite the UK fans… so I’ll expect him to “carry” Brook and force a stoppage before the end of the fifth round.
I believe K2 and Team GGG are orchestrating a move away from HBO, due to their diminished budget, so they may be trying to engage in a long-term business venture with Matchroom and Sky, to become a UK-based fighter (until September 2017, at least).
Re: Brook's chance?
..this extra weight will slow him down, affect his stamina and reflexes, should be a relatively easy win for Golovkin...

I really hope its a good fight, but also ends in a fashion where it leaves no question marks. GGG would be smart to hit Brook early, often, and hard and not let him get into any rhythm. Brook is good enough boxer to be able to last if he controls the pace of the fight. Any way it shakes out, I still expect GGG to stop him before the final bell.
Re: Brook's chance?
Agree with all that, its the panic he showed against Carson Jones that worries me the most, always think once you've shown any mental weakness its a bit like showing your hand in a card game mid play, I think by the 3rd round brook will have that same look of panic on his face and there will be no way back for himStuarty30 wrote:You have to give him a small (very small) chance as its only one man against another man and nothing's impossible. Re: Brook's chance?
I don't think Brook will look bad. I can see him putting in a decent, technical performance and giving GGG a bit of trouble. I can't see Kell winning, though. There's nothing to his game that stands out well enough to convince me that he can pull it off.
If I was betting for money, I'd go for a GGG decision. Kell to grab a few early rounds, but GGG to dominate down the stretch.
