That first fight on this TUF season was incredible. What a war.
Re: MMA thread?
Haven't watched the last couple seasons of TUF. This one worth watching then? The winner gets a title shot right? The standard must be pretty high.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:That first fight on this TUF season was incredible. What a war.

I subscribe to TUF's YouTube channel so all their content comes up on my home screen. Clicked on the fight last night only to be met with the wonderful "uploader has not made this content available in your country" message.Impractical Poster wrote:This season is going to be insane! Needed new blood in the division, I'll bet at least half of them get contracts.Impractical Poster wrote:This season is going to be insane! I love the concept.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:That first fight on this TUF season was incredible. What a war.

Re: MMA thread?
I just see UFC getting better and better, the talent pool is growing rapidly, as more and more youngsters take up what is essentially becoming a mainstream sport.
There are lots of excellent gyms around the world, and the next generation of fighters, will be ones who grew up going straight into MMA, rather than coming from other disciplines, so they will be technically so well rounded. I think there will always be a place for exceptional strikers, from boxing or more so kick boxing backgrounds, but they will become I think rarer as time goes on, as it will be harder and harder to compete with people who have excellent take down and grappling skills as well as very good striking technique.
I look forward to seeing it.

Hope so. I'm curious with how the politics were worked for this to happen. It's pretty wild to have current champions from different organizations being allowed to take part in this. Money talks I spose.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Needed new blood in the division, I'll bet at least half of them get contracts.Impractical Poster wrote:This season is going to be insane! Makes a whole lot of sense to me.DannyMCR wrote:Its definitely on, in the pre-fight presser McGregor said something along the lines of "Mark my words, this will be a trilogy fight" - I think they'll wait it out a while though, create a huge buildup and make it for a title.Redback Rasta wrote:McGregor vs Diaz III anyone?

i think it makes sense too
Re: MMA thread?
Caught up with the Hamburg card yesterday morning. What a KO from Bader. Rarely see someone fall back so dramatically, almost as if he flung himself backwards.
Gustafsson looked like he was struggling on the feet so did what he had to do to grind out a win. Not the best fight to watch though.
What a 1st round in the main event though. Back and forth until Arlowski tired and Barnett did what Barnett does.
Would like to see Barnett V Cain next. Battle of the grinders.

Think Arlovski is starting to look a bit shot, his stamina is terrible, and his striking isn't as effective as it was, he doesn't seem able to pull the trigger very often.danamba7 wrote:Caught up with the Hamburg card yesterday morning. Gustafsson fought a very smart fight against a guy who was clearly a very very dangerous striker.

Think Conor stops him next time out, he looks to have got the measure of Diaz to me.Redback Rasta wrote:Makes a whole lot of sense to me.DannyMCR wrote:Its definitely on, in the pre-fight presser McGregor said something along the lines of "Mark my words, this will be a trilogy fight" - I think they'll wait it out a while though, create a huge buildup and make it for a title.Redback Rasta wrote:McGregor vs Diaz III anyone?

Gustafson v Bader seems the most logical fight to make next, winner is in discussions for a title fight maybe?danamba7 wrote:Caught up with the Hamburg card yesterday morning. What a KO from Bader. Rarely see someone fall back so dramatically, almost as if he flung himself backwards.

I was thinking Barnett vs Dos Santos, I'm guessing Cain will either get the winner of Miocic/Overeem or a re,arch with Werdum if he wins
Re: MMA thread?
Hats off to CM Punk, he did it. He did something I'm sure a million people have said/thought they would do it and never did but he put everything on the line and didn't give up he fought the whole way.
Re: MMA thread?
Miocic vs. Overeem was a fun match
Re: MMA thread?
If he had been humble and showed some sportsmanship to his opponent during the weigh-in, instead of showing off and pandering to the crowd, he may have had my sympathy..... but reality is he was only there because of his celebrity status....p4p1 wrote:Hats off to CM Punk, he did it. .....really cant stand pretend hard arses who backflip and become the worlds nicest guy, with the up most respect for their opponent...... once they have been on the receiving end of a one sided flogging....
....want to be seen as inspirational???.... how about not being a complete twat in the first place....

Gall won the fight, Punk won the post fight interview...lol
What was up with Werdum kicking Browne's coach after the fight? I understand Werdum has outstanding BJJ and all, but the dude seems a real A-hole. Hopefully Cain can get a rematch somewhat soon.

Re: MMA thread?
Nah Werdum is an awesome guy from all reports that I've read. Edmund however is a first class ass hat and more people need to take that line with him. From what I saw it was Edmund doing all the talking first and after seeing him on TUF and everything else I've ever seen him on its pretty standard for him to start a fight then get upset when the other guy is willing.Impractical Poster wrote:Gall won the fight, Punk won the post fight interview...lol

Re: MMA thread?
I'm sure Edmond is a class A jerk, but there is a difference between throwing words and throwing kicks. Especially when the one throwing the kicks is an elite fighter. I guess I just expected more from Werdum.p4p1 wrote:Nah Werdum is an awesome guy from all reports that I've read. Re: MMA thread?
I would've been ok with it being a headkick TBH someone needs to do it. Unfortunately he didn't have the balls to fight Hallman after challenging him.
I'm sure we will find out what was said anyway and whether it was deserved or not l. Just because someone is a top fighter doesn't mean that if you say the wrong thing you should get a good whack.

I agree... But there is a time and place for everything. I guess it just caught me off guard seeing Werdum react in such a manner. But who knows, I probably would have done worse in his position.p4p1 wrote:I would've been ok with it being a headkick TBH someone needs to do it. Odd card for $10 price increase, but I guess that's to be expected after a 4 billion dollar purchase.
