From what I've seen he has some nice skills and is very mature for his age. He has decent height which he can use well. I don't think lack of power is so much his main weakness as lack of energy, probably due to his health issues, meaning he can't grind down opponents and he doesn't seem to like keeping moving, in the Kassi fight he semed to be often doing as little as possible though still was winning pretty easilly. He's ok in southpaw but clearly a bit uncomfortable.

Edit: I meant H.Fury I didn't notice how vague that was.

I usually refrain from comments without visual clarification, but I've seen Ruiz a few times and he's very mediocre. He also clearly has a weak mentality.

Hughie is only UK boxer to ever win super heavy gold in junior world amateur championships. I think.

people slate him but forget he's still only 21 and went pro at 18 deciding to learn his trade in pros instead of ams.

He's 20-0 (10) and I believe his movement and footwork will give him edge of Ruin and he'll fiddle a points win in this one.

21 is stupidly young for a HW and hughie should be allowed to rack up 30 or 40 fights to learn the game. Lets have it right, Ruiz Jr is as good if not better than anyone AJ has faced to date.

How? I'd take Kevin Johnson over fat boy. Ruiz sucks.

Johnson had lost 5 of his last 6 before AJ fought him. -14-3 (very) average euro HW Christian Hammer had beaten him by virtual landslide 2 and a half years before!

As overated as 28-0 Ruiz maybe he would've beaten that version of Johnson... as would Dillian Whyte who's a far better shout of someone AJ beat that's better than Ruiz. Even then I'd say Ruiz is better.

Not hating on AJ, or jumping on Ruiz bandwagon. I just think honestly Ruiz is better than anyone on AJ record at this point

I expect Fury by decision.
Tyrone Spong just had another very nice KO victory btw.

The win was expected, the goal was making rounds, somehow Johnson couldn't keep standing, unlike against other world champions.

Without doubt the win was a statement. Still see pre-fight Ruiz as a better opponent.

Whatever the weather on opinions of which AJ opponents are better than Ruiz, at 21, fair play to Hughie Fury taking on Ruiz . For a fat boy who sucks he's unbeaten and finished 20 of his 28 wins inside distance

We'll see next week. Assuming Ruiz does make it to the fight I'd pick Hughie by decision.

Yeah, he's fat, easily falls into clinches, tires after about 5 rounds. And only has somewhat decent stamina to begin with even in the early going.

Some say Hughie is overrated but that remains to be seen. I think he boxes really well, but it remains to be seen how he takes a punch or handles a real war.

Ruiz, on the other hand seems limited. Decent puncher but not fast enough or well conditioned enough to hang out at the top.

I picked Hughie by decision.

I don't know what kind of psycho would book Ruiz to fight Lawrence and Fury 49 days apart. But I'm pretty sure that Ruiz is not winning against Fury.

Honestly I wish "psychos" would do this more often.

The new unwritten rules in boxing are to take 8 months to a year off between fights and if you lose 1 fight, you're finished

I'm no Ruiz enthusiast by any stretch, but I commend him if he goes thru with these 2 fights.

I agree with Tony here, but the way things are going in boxing these days they'll probably cancel the Fury fight.

I've seen Ruiz once or twice & he looked decent against C level opposition. Hard to say if he's any good though. It can't be good for him carrying all that extra weight.

I've been a fan of Hughie since I saw his debut & thought he looked great. He hasn't really progressed a lot since then though. But he's always been in control of his bouts & looks like he has several other gears.

I'd have Fury on points but it's a decent bout between two prospects.
