Some years after Gastineau disappeared (finally went away and left us alone) it leaked out that Big George approached Mark Gastineau’s people offering the opportunity for a big fight with big fight money if Gastineau could reach a certain level of credibility with the public, but Gastineau figured out how to blow the opportunity by failing to look even ‘reasonably good’ in fights everyone believed to be staged (fixed); imagine being so bad that a 'tanker' can't make you look good.
Big George Foreman v. Mark Gastineau
Re: Big George Foreman v. Mark Gastineau
Wonder why Foreman never rematched Jimmy Young in the 1980s. Young was still fighting and losing most of the time. I'm sure Young could have used the payday.

NFL player Alonzo Highsmith took up Boxing because his bad knee wouldn't allow him to play Football. He made Gastineau look like an idiot.

Gastineau was the product of his coaching... A boxer can learn 10 times as much in 3 months with a great trainer than he can learn in 10 years with horse-slop trainers.. Gastineau was loading up like an old lady and trying to tear Highsmith's head off. As soon as he got hit he turned his back like a raw sub-novice.. He had no legs.. It takes more than jogging and rope skipping to get balance, power, and spring in your legs -- you need plyometric jumps, wind sprints, and speed work with your feet.. Gastineau needed tons of torso and upper body work and looked like he just came off the couch.
Highsmith looked good. He would have become a good boxer, but his left knee was so bad he gave it up like he did Football... Both sports require sound knees.
