Front Squat Stalling

Post by Mr.DW »

I am relatively new at squatting. I have been front squatting for about 5 weeks now started off at 60 for 5 reps now I'm at 105 for 10 reps. I can get the reps for the first set and got 110 for 8 but at 115 for 6 I failed after 5. The next workout which was 3 days later I failed to get 10 reps of 105 and barely got 8 reps of 110. I didn't even bother with trying 115.

What is going on and how can I fix it? I am going to hit legs again today.

You're hitting legs too often. If you squat heavy, once a week will do you. Otherwise you'll not get the recovery you need and you'll find gains difficult. Sound familiar? ;-)

Basically you just need more time in grade. You need to get stronger, which means you need to squat more. You don't need to always hit the reps, and you don't need to add weight every time. I wouldn't front squat more than twice a week, but I must respectfully disagree with counterpuncher on back squatting once per week. You can see great progress squatting multiple times per week. There are a lot of great Oly coaches that recommend squatting heavy every day like the Soviets and Bulgarians did...and the Iranians now do. Squats are a special exercise.
