GGG is about as far from scum as you can get in my opinion. Polite well mannered bloke. Adrien Broner is scum, not GGG.
Apparently his parents snatched his dreams away to send him down a mine based on him being slightly younger than his brother.

That screams backwards thinking, from backwards people, from a backwards nation.

There is nothing to respect here. These people are trash.

I kind of agree with this, imagine if they both went pro!

It's not really fair to blame the kidsfor following their parents orders if that's the culture but absolutely awful to do that from the parents.

The media would make a story out of an empty crisp packet. I doubt there's much truth in this but if there is what does it say about gennady ? Does respect for ones parents stretch to watching them crush your dreams ? I doubt it.

Horse are you going through midlife crisis, did you not read the article, his two older brothers who used to help feed the family both died, because they were forced to go in the Army by the Soviet Union, so that left the two boxers, with only one place at the Olympics, because they were both at the same weight, the parents could of chosen the best one, but they picked the oldest one, because he was first in the world, what a great decision ? Bearing in mind that the father had worked in the mines to feed his children and the mother had reared them, it is only right that the children when they grow up , should look after their parents, so scum does not come into, just devotion to their parents. Quite clearly Horse you don't understand those qualities.

No, these pathetic countries where the parents destroy their son's dream on a whim are backwards.

Why did the son listen anyway? He was a loser as well.

Pathetic family, pathetic nation.

Absolute scum.
Would you say that if you were face-to-face with the Golovkins?

No. Because you're a coward.

It is like the case of two of your sons drowning in the sea and you can only save one of them, which one do you save ? Nobody would like to have to make a decision like that, you would be the one sending one of your sons to his death. In this case you are killing the dream of one of your sons and sending him to the mines, Though Max did tell Gennady to go and make his dreams reality, because he was the oldest and their parents decision was made easier. Nobody is to blame here only destiny.

Very true. I've witnessed it first hand for years and it's blatantly not true.

I take an oil worker to the airport to fly to Kazak every few months and it's a very bleak existence. He reckons nearly all of them are incredibly tough.

Max Golokin was the best in his country at the weight and had won every competition, so it not just a case of his famous brother fibbing.

This is a bullshit story. Golovkins amateur career is very well documented. I saw him win the World Juniors in Budapest back in 2000 (at Light Welter) and have followed his career since. He also won the 2002 Asian Games, the 2003 World Championships, etc and was one of the favorites for Olympic Gold in Athens. 51 of Golovkins international bouts (43 wins, 8 losses) can be found here: http://www.amateur-boxing.strefa.pl/Rec ... nadiy.html.
However, I can´t find one bout of his brother. Isn´t it strange that Gennadiy had plenty of international success and his brother had none but it was decided in the last minute who would represent Kazakhstan in the Olympics? Gennadiy was the World Champion with international wins over Damian Austin, Matt Korobov, Lucian Bute, Andy Lee, Yordanis Despaigne, Lukas Wilaschek, Marian Simion, etc and his brother was unproven at international level however Max could have gotten to the Olympics and just collect a medal? In an article from some years ago it seems Max Golovkin retired some years before the Olympics.

this was all after Max Golokin retired, nobody is saying that Golokin is not a brilliant fighter, just posting GGG's story.
