I'm going to say Calzaghe by points.

I hope to god he beats lacy, just because the yanks think Lacy is going to destroy Calzaghe.

That's a pretty dumb statement...I'm sure the percentage of Americans who want Lacy to win and hammer Calzaghe is relative to that of Englishmen wanting Calzaghe to win.

I think Lacy by lateish KO, round 9.

Lacy knocks him out. Calzaghe has fed on too many creampuffs of late.

A better fighter than Lacy would knock Calzaghe out. As the opponent is only Lacy - Calzaghe TKO 5.

i agree with pundit that Kessler is the best SMW but this is still a dam good fight.
i say calzaghe wins on points, or even late stopage
actually i think it could well be a loopsided decision as well. Lacy will come out firing in the first 4 rounds and more than likley flatten joe, who after that will start to use his hand speed find his range and land the cleaner punches

Originally thought that Calzaghe would win by UD but more recently I have been leaning towards a Lacy TKO.

Should be a good fight

For me its Lacy by KO, too young, sharp, fresh and powerful for Calzaghe who seems to be on his way down. Lacy is a killer who reminds me of a smaller Tyson. Cant wait to see it though, best match-up in this country since Benn-McClellan

Calzaghe by wide decision or late stoppage. :TU:

Kessler needs more fights before he can be called the best too premature just off wins from washed up Lucas, Mundine and Siaca who Mitchell beat twice!

I doubt this fight will go into the later rounds; unless one of the two suddenly boxes a different fight from what they did in the past.

These are no very tactical fighters. I expect them to stand in front of each other and slug away, Lacy getting the harder shots in and Joe the greater quantity. Either Lacy catches Joe with a big hand that is too much for Joe's chin (would be a first-timer), or Joe overwhelms Lacy, gets him off-balance, and scores a TKO. Based on Calzaghe's experience and his strong chin, and the fact that Lacy does not have a flawless defense, I consider the latter scenario more likely. But of course, punching with a puncher - and I don't think Joe knows how to fight differently - without being a puncher yourself always carries a risk.

Btw, this is what Calzaghe himself says about the style matchup (from fightnews):

"I like Lacy's style, he's an exciting fighter but I think that his style plays in to my hands to be honest," exclaimed Calzaghe. "I like fighters who come to me rather than fighters I have to chase."

My saying all along. Lacy suits Calzaghe. What does not suit Calzaghe would be an evasive, slick counterpuncher with good footspeed, and this is why he hasn't faced any of these in his entire career.

If Calzaghe can avoid or withstand Lacy's power-punches he will win. Team Calzaghe has done its homework before taking this fight: they have avoided excess risks during Joe's entire career, they are taking a calculated risk now. I doubt team Lacy has done its homework though. The fight comes too early for Jeff.

Calzaghe also hasn't fought a fighter as good as Lacy yet either. He suits his style now, but I bet once the first good shot from Jeff catches Joe C., he'll change his tune real quick. I don't think this fight comes too early at all. He's always been a fighter, and won't sit there and take time off when he doesn't need too. Calzaghe has been fighting so-so fighters as of late, not that Lacy is blowing people out of the water with his challenges, but I think Joe is ripe for the picking. He's been on top long enough, and he's already said he's thinking about going to LHW after this fight. That way, he's already setting up an excuse on no rematch, win or lose. He loses, he'll say he was to caught up in the possible weight class change, and he wins, he'll say he already stated he's moving up, so there will be no rematch.

Lacy is nothing like Tyson, but he has been hyped to be.

Lacy beat Pemberton, so what, Pemberton is as shot as my grandmother.

Lacy struggled with Sheika.

I reckon Joe wipes the floor with him in four rounds.

I think Joe slaughters him.

We'll see. With a puncher of Lacy's caliber in the ring everything's possible.

And I promise: no more Kessler-comments until the day of the fight....

I wouldn't say Tyson as much as a slower version of Hagler. Yes, he's hit the canvas a couple times in his career, but that's his style. Obviously it doesn't phase him too much as he gets up and eventually won the fights.

Struggling with Sheika happens. You could say the same thing about Hagler, struggling with Roldan, shit happens, you jsut gotta win the fight. Also, notice after Jeff won the vacant title, he took a defense almost 2 months to the day after that. How many times has Joe defended a major belt two months after he jsut defended it? Not to also mention that Lacy took that fight 11 fights before Joe did, and I'd tend to believe Jeff leanred a few things about himself after that fight. You could say he's been on a pretty decent run since the Sheika fight.

11 fights earlier in his career. This is fair comment, Calzaghe was way more experienced than Lacy when he faced Sheika. Sheika may be a fringe contender, but he's been around the block a fair few times.

Kessler would be smashing Beyer's face into hamburger meat if the German would agree fight him. you know what he said when questioned on the subject? - 'i'll fight Kessler if Kessler beats the Calzaghe-Lacy winner".

if MK had had his way he'd have been in some big fights already and would be getting far more credit than he is.

I want the JC-JL winner to fight Kessler. but you know, if they stay at s/m they could end up fighting that other Dane, Rudy Markussen. isn't he the WBO's #1?

I mean, you look at who Sheika has fought, the guy has been in there and hung around with some very very good fighters.

Pulling a UD on him isn't something to be ashamed about...I just shows how good Joe was at that point in his career.

You underestimate Beyer. He is very fast and technically strong, even though mentally fragile and thus unpredictable. I believe on his day Beyer can beat Lacy, perhaps even Calzaghe. I doubt he can beat Kessler though.

I doubt Beyer could beat Lacy. He would definitely try to outbox him early, but that first time he gets cracked by Jeff, he's done. He'll be mentally out of it, and from there on it's only a matter of time.

You never know what Beyer will show up - the Beyer who controlled Green, schooled Sheika, and domianted Woodhall looked pretty strong mentally. The Beyer who got knocked out by Catley and struggled with Sanavia would be there for the taking for most top-20 fighters.

Beyer is the dark horse of the division.

Very true, I agree. But you can be that dark horse against the right competition and still get past it. However, at some point, the wheels do come off when you hit that major bump in the road... wow I just wrote a book of cliches...and I just think that Lacy would lure Beyer into complacency early but Beyer outboxing him for the first 3 or 4. Then once Lacy figures him out and really puts one on Beyer's head, his mentality will change from "I'm the shit." to "I'm in some shit."

As far as I can make out, watching German TV, Beyer's revival has been helped by some confidence boosting hypnosis.

He's a fragile champ though - the 2nd Green win was good yes ( the first very lucky ) but aside from that he's been matched VERY carefuly.

Note the Germans are willing to bring new middle champ Abraham out of Germany later this year - that's because he's the real thing - unlike Beyer and......yes, Ottke :TU:

Calzaghe, Lacy and co would blast nice guy Marcus right out of the water. Which would be a pitty, as I'd really miss those Rock God Waynes world style ring entrances of his.

You see his last fight vs Colajanni or whatever it is? The guy ran around for 10 rounds or something, and fianlly gave in and got fornicating dropped.
