Browne-Oquendo negotiations for WBA title fight underway

Browne-Oquendo negotiations underway

http://www.fightnews.com/Boxing/browne- ... way-352409?

WBA President Gilberto Jesus Mendoza has announced that negotiations are underway for a fight for the vacant WBA regular heavyweight title between Lucas Browne and Fres Oquendo.

“Browne’s title shot came out of a legal settlement we had to do after we got sued by Browne’s people for stripping him,” Mendoza told Sky Sports.

“I think the WBA grounds were very strong. He took us to court and we settled for giving him a title opportunity…that’s what we ordered. We have been listening to the promoters, that’s a very tough fight to sell. That’s a very tough fight to make because of the amounts of money, but they are negotiating right now. We’ll see what the outcome is.”

Not in the slightest bit interested.

Would be nice if we could get a fight like Parker-Browne, instead we get this

"The Lucas Browne issue has been more or less resolved. Browne, who upset Ruslan Chagaev in March to win the WBA World heavyweight title, was stripped for failing a drug test. He denied any wrongdoing, took the WBA to court and won, so he will likely face Fres Oquendo for the title in his next bout".

Good to know we will see Big daddy back sooner than later.

I guess this fight could attract some fans in Australia, right?

Would it sell in Chicago or Puerto Rico as well?

How about Haye vs Briggs, Browne vs Oquendo double card? I guess it looks much better this way, huh? winners may meet up next. Hatton should contact Haye for this.

The only way a fight involving Oquendo has any chance of making money is if he is fighting Browne in Australia.
Oquendo brings no fans or networks to the table with him.
The WBA has a court order to get Oquendo a title fight and the sanctioning body wants to be done with it.

This will be an easy win for Browne then he can move on to better fights.

I feel Fres Oquendo maybe the most unlucky fighter ever . I wouldn't mind if he got a title

A heavyweight title fight in Australia would attract big interest. Particularly one involving Lucas Browne.

Oquendo has been a fringe guy forever and never really done anything. Unless this is free on PBC or something, I don't see no interet

Two fringe contenders, one old and faded, fighting for a world title?

The WBA is the worst sanctioning organization. :verysad:

I'm very sympathetic with Oquendo because he was robbed in many big fights, but those days are long past. Now I figure Browne will beat him fair and square.

Nope, Dutch, but Tyrone Spong (who got similar bodyshapes as Povetkin), won yesterday as well (again by early KO).

Oquendo last fight was in 2014... and he lost it. If this is enough not only to get a titleshot, but get it via court order, is beyond my imagination.

How does Fres Oquendo even get in the conversation for any sort of title shot whatsoever? He's 43 years old and his entire claim to fame is getting robbed by the judges against Chris Byrd over a decade ago.

Never done, some Russians might be intelligent enough to understand English, but Americans aren't intelligent enough to understand Russian lol, so why should I quote any Russian TV comment in the first place? Americans won't understand it anyway?

You didn't follow the aftermath of Chagaev vs Oquendo? It was covered in detail on every boxing site.

The only things I know about that fight are that it was for the farcical WBA "regular" championship, and that Chagaev won.

You can answer the question you raised above regarding why Oquendo has a title shot with a simple Google search :TU:

So basically, it's due to the usual ABC nonsense where rankings are based on palm-greasing rather than actual results.

You could not possibly be more wrong. It wasn't even a WBA decision

Most boxing fans are well aware of why Oquendo is getting another title shot.

If you really want to know the answer it will take you 30 seconds to find using Google.

Chagaev beat Oquendo and Browne beat Chagaev.
