What is the best strategy Brook can adopt?

Post by SteveDow »

We all know Brook has an absolute mountain to climb on Saturday but if you were his trainer what strategy would you tell him to adopt?

Johnny Nelson seems to think jumping on GGG from the first bell and trying to get him out of there is the best approach. This would surely be utterly suicidal given GGGs chin and the fact that a fire fight would only lead to Kell getting KO'd quickly.

I've heard others say Brook has to use his speed and try and stay away from GGG and nick a decision. This would be a huge ask given how well GGG cuts the ring off and how attacking he is. That strategy may work with a naturally cautious fighter like Klitschko when Fury won but surely wouldn't be possible with GGG.

Any combination of the two again puts Brook at constant threat.

The more I think the more I just can't see a real way he can win this.

suppose every time kell senses that GGG setting his feet he gotta move and give him angles, but like you said hes too good at cutting off the ring, youve got to think that brook been working on the jab and right hand as they the only shots ive seen GGG touched with, other than that im out of answers

His best strategy would be to not step between them ropes (although his Bank account will disagree). I don't think there is anything brook can do to stop the inevitable ko. Senchenko rocked him and Carson Jones had him in trouble. The extra weight might mean he can hold a shot better but I doubt very much it will stand up to what is coming its way Saturday

I think Nelsons right and I think that's what Brook will do. Empty the tank and go for broke! He looked massive the other day.

How though could he realistically expect that strategy to work when GGG has never been down in nearly 400 fights as an amateur and as a pro. That would be very desperate from Brook. I think he'll try and be cautious and get caught up with in the middle rounds.

I don't think it will work at all. That's just what I expect. He looked like a tank the other day. He's not going to beat GGG over 12 so that's his best chance. Not saying it'll work.

I know mate I'm looking forward to it and I'm a big Brook fan but I just can't imagine any realistic scenario where he wins! Should be a good night all the same :TU:

Really don't know to be frank.

But if Kell wants to impose himself on GGG he's got to land very early and properly hard - first minute perhaps - really force the guy to respect his speed and power so he can get some sort of toehold in the fight and try to make things happen from there.

Making some sort of meaningful point quickly but without getting drawn into a firefight is easier said than done against GGG however.

Whenever I think of GGG, I recall the Murray fight and then worry about Kell.

Martin was a big, strong lad who came in with a decent enough gameplan, the right experience and mindset. But Golvokin just dealt with it and always seemed to have the upper hand whatever Martin tried.

Watching a big, powerful and organised middleweght like Martin not really being able to put a small dent in GGG makes me worried for Kell.

Basically, get baldrick to set a fire ringside, kick golovkin in the balls, and in the ensuing confusion claim a draw :TU:

I think Brook has to box defensively. Im thinking that lucky shot is going to win him the fight.

not turn up

nah, be defensive as possible, and use speed, but to be fair nothing he can really do is going to be enough to keep golovkin honest as they say :box:

Fighting defensively would be the worst thing Brook could do imo - Golovkin will absolutely steam through him.

Its a kamikaze job for Brook, can't see any reason for it other than a last pay day. The hype job from Sky and Eddie is more nauseating than usual this time

Problem for brook is if he fights on the back foot he will gas because of his weight, if he goes for broke he will get sparked because he doesn't carry the same power as Golovkin and will lose in the exchanges. Personally I think the only hope he has is to adopt a Michael Watson style defence and use his timing to counter GGG on the way in.

The best bet for brook is that GGG is massively over hyped, he hasn't actually fought anyone who has punched him back yet. I'm not sold on him, imo once he steps up to smw he's not going to look anything like the destroyer he looks at a fairly unimpressive middle weight. Unfortunately I don't think brook is going to be the man to make him look ordinary, I also don't think that level of opposition Kel has faced has prepared him for elite fighters.

Me too!

I really wouldn't fancy Kell Brook beating Martin Murray, who was a huge middleweight. Although Brook is a far more explosive puncher than Murray.

I can see Brook getting holes punched in his torso by GGG, who seems to be the fecking terminator in walking down opponents and ending them. Wouldnt surprise me if this was over in 4 rounds.

Brook's only chance is massive, non-stop movement and boxing completely on the back foot and darting in and out with occasional bursts of punches. I reckon the ring will be the maximum allowable size.

surely that's a bluff from Nelson. He can't honestly believe a fighter with a 69% ko rate as a welter should go toe to toe with GGG and hope to win! !

Brooks best chance is to box on outside, stay out of range, spoil up close while fiddling his way doing just enough to win each session.

More you think about it the harder his task seems. The absolute worst tactic is to go in and have a shoot out

I think Brook has fantastic punch accuracy and wouldn't be surprised to see GGG walk on to something early on which could make him more cautious.

I also think Brook will carry some power.

I think we'll see GGG fighting his usual fight and trying to cut the ring and pressure early on, but if Brook can make him think twice we could have a real shock on our hands.

Brook has the ability without question in my mind, the early rounds will be crucial (obvious statement alert)

He needs to connect hard and often and keep doing it until GGG can take it no more in round 11 (100 to 1, I couldn't resist)
