All this talk of Brook being the bigger man
Re: All this talk of Brook being the bigger man
Eddie just answered you question. He had been 167 at the fight night.MightyWarrior wrote:can someone remind me, what was Brooks usual weight on fight night when he was at 147 ?
He also claims that he will be same 167 against GGG. That is in contrast to what Ingle said earlier that Brook will be stone heavier. So I suppose truth is somewhere in between. Brook will be within 170-175.

Brilliant

It's not a body-buiding competition. Brook looked razor-sharp at the open workout.

He talks a lot in the video about how relaxed he is at not having to boil down and how nice it is to be able to stay at home with the family etc.
I thought a big part of getting into the right mindset for a fight was living a spartan life and sacrificing your normal creature comforts so that when fight time comes all the hardship you've suffered in camp is focused on your opponent and you can't wait to get at the man who's taken you away from your family for 2 months and caused you to feel literally hungry for weeks

Bodyshape and especially bodyshape changes are a massive indicator to shape. Banging pads without being pressured for a few minutes at an open workout is not showing what he has in a fight environment , under pressure and when extended.BigDoofus wrote:It's not a body-buiding competition. Come on man, pretty basic stuff isnt it.
I may be into bodybuilding, but I am into boxing first and just because I use knowledge that has come from bodybuilding and physique and how they work, does not mean I think it is bodybuilding mate.

I noticed in another video they were simulating training at altitude through a tent training situation. They said he was simulating training at 500 metres higher than GGG was at Big Bear. Am I being stupid here, but running in a tent for ten minutes is not the same as GGG LIVING at altitude. Even pushing a fecking shite out at altitude is taxing and adapting his body. All day every day, sleep, awake, walking, talking, scratching, everything is at altitude. Ten minutes in a tent cannot be close to matching that.

I can look pretty sharp myself on the pads. I'm also a naturally bigger man than GGG. So clearly I should be next in line to fight the winner
Re: All this talk of Brook being the bigger man
In Brooks last 3 weigh ins he's been (about)
146.4
146.2
145.1
Look like comfortable welter weigh ins them.

does any of this modern scientific ever really make a difference do u think? Granted I'm a dinosaur, but you can't beat the basics IMO. The rest just seems like fluff that boosts the fighter mentally a littletobyh5 wrote:CaptainSpacerod wrote:He talks a lot in the video about how relaxed he is at not having to boil down and how nice it is to be able to stay at home with the family etc.

That is my feeling too. Sugar Ray Robinson just got in the gym and grafted and I think we know what would happen if you threw him in with BrookStevieb8006 wrote:does any of this modern scientific ever really make a difference do u think? He certainly didn't look fat, which you keep claiming he is.tobyh5 wrote: Bodyshape and especially bodyshape changes are a massive indicator to shape. Re: All this talk of Brook being the bigger man
I said he is carrying more bodyfat which is different and is better hydrated, not muscle gained. His face looks fat though which is a demonstration of his extra bodyfat. Extra bodyfat and being fat are not the same thing.BigDoofus wrote:He certainly didn't look fat, which you keep claiming he is.tobyh5 wrote: Bodyshape and especially bodyshape changes are a massive indicator to shape. Re: All this talk of Brook being the bigger man
IBF have a second day weight rule which limits fighters to 10lbs over agreed limit at midday of the day of the fight .
According to the hype Brook will be heavier quicker stronger and hit harder than GGG. Not bad for a man who's not even proven he's #1 at 147

Re: All this talk of Brook being the bigger man
By your average man standards he is lean. In relative terms compared to his usual physical condition on fight night he is fat. He is carrying an extra 5% body fat I'd guess.BigDoofus wrote:He certainly didn't look fat, which you keep claiming he is.tobyh5 wrote: Bodyshape and especially bodyshape changes are a massive indicator to shape. When a fighter carries extra weight they haven't got used to then their footwork and everything else is hindered.

But he killed himself to make Welterweight which would have had hindered him the same...... it must be better for him to be at a more healthy natural weightSupremo wrote:By your average man standards he is lean. Hearn claims that he will get in the ring at about the same weight that he usually does.

What is your point? Weight and bodyfat are two different things.
He easily looks about 5% more, easily and the math on calculating his probably LBM and pounds of fat at 147 to now bears that out.
Your lean body mass (fat free weight) will not alter much although there may be a bit more muscle (1-2lb maximum), more fluid in the body, more hydration, less depleted, more food in the bowels but realistically, most of it will be fat.
The point is not that he is "fat" because he isn't, but that he is carrying more bodyfat and that will not be particularly useful as it will slow his hands and feet, take some snap out of the punches, dull the reflexes a little but in reverse maybe make his stamina better as more energised for more food and carbs going in for an extended period and allow him to soak up heavy punches a little better.

I don't know about you guys but I am borderline fed up of everyone saying that Brook is a massive welterweight to justify his jump to MW. There was a reason he cut all the way to 147 I am praying he doesn't get hurt !
