Richard Commey vs Robert Easter Jr

Post by handsofstone »

This friday for the vacant IBF Lightweight title on the Jacobs/Mora 2 card(shown on Spike sat at 10)

Should be a cracking fight TBH,both guys unbeaten with big KO power,Ive only seen a bit of Commey despite reading about him for years,i remember him being based in UK for a while struggling to get fights,he stopped Kris Hughes and Truscott before outpointing Buckland for the Commonwealth title,i never seen that fight but he won fairly wide,i remember being a bit surprised that Gary lasted the distance because im pretty sure Richard had KO'd everyone he fought at that point, since then Commey relocated to the US trying to get a title shot

I only seen Easter Jr the once when he blitzed Argenis Mendez a wee while ago on some undercard and i was impressed with him,it was partly the reason why i thought Campbell would deal with Mendez better than he did

Only Commey is from Accra,Ghana so Easter Jr wont be teak tough so i dont know which way this fight will go,i'll guess Easter Jr wins a barnstormer

Easter will win comfortably I reckon. I'm going to try and stay clear of the results and record it n Spike. Stick it on between GGG v Brook finishing and Cuadras v Chocolatito starting :TU:

That's the plan anyway. Old Firm day on Sat so I'll probably end up running around Paisley full of Ching with my balls out by tea time!

The odds on Commey seem quite generous. 10/3 in places. He's a real tough nut, and could well cause an upset.

The book started off close to even money but Easter has been backed heavily.

I got Easter Jr at 5/4 when the book opened. Shockingly good price.
Easter Jr looks the type who can carry his power to the highest level.
Commey looks good but I reckon Easter Jr looks a special talent.
Hopefully he's been able to find some teak tough sparring.

Excellent fight Easter Jr wins a SD but i thought Commey won 115-112.he landed the cleaner, harder shots throughout IMO,started off a furious pace then there was a bit of a lull in the middle rounds which were close then Commey put Easter Jr down with a big right hand but im not actually sure if Robert's glove actually scriffed the canvas or it didnt touch at all,it was hard to see by the angle of the replay.either way it was scored a KD,after that the pace picked up again and i had Commey winning most rounds, credit to Easter Jr though he never gave up and dipped Commey's legs in the 12th and had him battered on the ropes but couldnt get him out of there

Great fight but i knew Easter Jr would get the nod on the cards

I haven't seen the fight yet but it sounded immense! I have to ask though- for you guys that did watch it- how would you see Campbell faring against either?

I had Easter Jr 114-113. Real close fight.

I thought both looked good. Both deserve top 10 rankings in the division.
Personally I think Campbell would lose to both as they are powerful punchers and he's been down to two who don't punch as hard.
For me Campbell's style is most suited to Crolla who I think he could outbox.

There won't be a queue for either Easter Jr or Commey.

Yeah I tend to feel the same way. Campbell's downfall will be against Punchers I think. That said- regarding Crolla, even though he's not exactly a puncher he's pretty good at grinding guys down and setting a high pace. He seems very fit. Not sure how Campbell would fare against that.
