Daniel Jacobs: We Called Out Golovkin Months Ago, I Can Win!

Post by apollo creed »

We called out Triple G months ago,” Jacobs said to Premier Boxing Champions. “I truly want that fight, if not by the end of the year then definitely sometime next year. So we’ll continue to build our brand, and then we’ll see what the future holds. But I’m sure we can make [a Golovkin fight] happen. It’s a fight I believe I can be the victor in.”

    :stop:

I really want to fight GGG but when he has a already a fight signed or when his old and retired for the right money ????

I'll never criticize a champion for defending his title 3 times per year but I do think that this over-activity has negatively affected the quality of GGG's opponents. The reason being, there's not enough time left over to negotiate the big fights. I'd like to see him cut it down to 2 defenses a year so that his team has more time to negotiate bigger fights now. GGG deserves to only get out of bed for big fights now like Floyd. Like all the other P4P best fighters in the past.

With that said, I personally think that Jacobs presents the only fighter left in the division to fight. I think the Jacobs would give GGG the best test out there but it still won't be enough. But i'd like to see it. Jacobs length, speed and height could test GGG for as long as it lasts.

Classic example of someone calling out Golovkin when he's already got a fight signed.

Jacobs will have nowhere to hide soon, as WBA will mandate Golovkin vs Jacobs.

HBO would have to back him with lots of $ on purse bid or let him to fight on PBC.

Promoters do pursebids, HBO is not a promoter.

I doubt very much Jacobs wants any part of GGG, but I'd like to see the fight.

I like Danny Jacobs but this is a no win fight for him. I'd still like to see it go down and have Jacobs go into retirement with a nice lump of cheese in his bank account. Hopefully he'll be ok to enjoy it. A shot from GGG could be a game changer...for life.

Assuming HBO's budget cuts and K2 being a small promoter, results in a lack of funds, then how on earth can this bout be made? GGG's not a PPV fighter, but he is tied to an exclusive contract with HBO.

Even if the bout supposedly goes to purse bids, as per the Kovalev-Stevenson situation, K2 will be forced to withdraw GGG from consideration, because his exclusive contract with HBO will prevent him from having his fights televised by a rival network.

Will HBO release GGG from his contractual obligations, like they did with Pacquiao?

I am utterly clueless as to how this fight can be made, given HBO's dire financial situation, coupled with GGG's exclusive contract with them.

HBO have to play smart and let all on Haymon's pocket.

There is nothing weird in that. They all (including Ward at one point) talk when GGG is not available, but go quiet when Golovkin needs an opponent. What is weird is that WBA's "reasoning" for not sanctioning the Brook fight is that it is a "business" fight, while Jacobs "was available".

Why has Tom Loeffler never made any attempt to match Andre Ward against GGG?

Tom does not dispute Ward’s claims that they had agreed to Team Golovkin’s demands (i.e. 50-50 purse split and the 164lb catch-weight stipulation), but the K2 chief asserts they rejected the Roc Nation’s offer because they had already announced the Lemieux bout, which Andre disputes. So we don't know for certain who is right or wrong about this.

It was interesting that Loeffler stated their reasons for their apparent disinterest about taking the Ward fight:

• His belief about Canelo and Cotto being bigger name opponents (offering bigger paydays)
• GGG was adamant about facing his IBF mandatory Dominic Wade, in preference to paying his anonymous challenger step-aside money
• Tom preferred Golovkin to face an opponent, like Billy Joe Saunders, to unify the middleweight division instead of the Kazakh facing a 168lb-er
• If Ward defeats Kovalev, the S.O.G. would be at the top of the game and this would render the Ward-GGG contest as a PPV-worthy super-fight

So Loeffler was stating his preference about the Ward-GGG bout being made sometime in 2017 (assuming Andre was still physically capable of competing at 168lbs at that moment in time). Yet it’s kind of strange that Tom’s stance is wholeheartedly endorsed by Golovkin’s fans, yet they aggressively deride Oscar De La Hoya for making precisely the same decision, by only allowing Canelo to face Gennady in September of next year.

Either way, Tom made an awful lot of excuses (reasonable ones I might add) for his apparent reluctance to allow GGG to face Ward.

As I’ve already stated, it’s important to note that Tom Loeffler openly admits to having never made a single offer to Andre Ward to face his charge, Gennady Golovkin. Yet this is something that you refuse to comment on?

The reasons of not pursuing Ward:
- he is from a higher weight class and is not a draw
- he was extremely inactive
- he is very hard to negotiate with

With all that, Ward wanted a 50/50 split. What a jocker !

P.S. LOL at comparing that to Canelo dropping a belt to not face his mandatory

Did you not watch the video of Loeffler listing those reasons that I articulated in my previous response? :o

The blue text hyperlink within my previous post will display a YouTube video of Tom Loeffler eloquently articulating the very reasons I listed on a verbatim basis.

So if you’re trying your upmost to undermine the content of my previous comment in this thread, then please be critical of Tom Loeffler also, since he’s the K2 chief partly-responsible for orchestrating the promotion of Gennady Golovkin’s bouts.

    at HBO's dire financial situation. That's almost worth taking Rover off of ignore. Just because they have a diminished interest in the 1% of their subscribers that care about Boxing means they're broke?

I listed reasons from the time when RN sent that email "offer" to Loefler which was the only time they expressed an interest (even though a fake one) in fighting Golovkin. Loefler's interview you are referencing took place much later, so he listed other reasons, but the main one still remained the same: Ward isn't interested.

Google "HBO's boxing budget cuts" :TU:

For the record, I never claimed that HBO were broke, but their boxing budget is dire.
