Do you like crossover fights ?
Do you like crossover fights ?
So what are your feelings on the fights that crossover into the mainstream ? obviously GGG v brook falls into this catagory (in uk anyway) and have found myself overhearing or involved in boxing chats with non/casual boxing fans which has been at best amusing and at worst downright annoying, it got me thinking about what life would be like if boxing was a mainstream sport and in all honesty i dont think i could handle it,whats your thought on this strange occurence ?
Re: Do you like crossover fights ?
Hard to say. A lot of the bizarre uninformed opinions you hear about crossover fights come from people who get the majority of their information from Sky Sports who, in the most part, chat absolute nonsense. I suppose if it was a mainstream sport there'd be less reliance on Sky's biased content and more interest in Boxing News, Boxing Monthly etc. which means the average fan would have more of an idea about what was true and what was a load of crap.

Bit of both.
I like them because it usually means the fight is big, but on the other hand, the hype can often outweigh the true significance of the fight.
Mayweather Jr v Pacquaio was a case in point.
Because that was the richest fight ever, I heard many people who don't really follow boxing in great depth talking about that fight as if it was the biggest ever & had to be watched at all costs.
Some of these people almost laughed at me when I said that particular fight was not even in the top 10 of the biggest fights ever, even if it was the most lucrative & that it should have happened about 5 - 7 years earlier.
They still didn't get it when I said that Frazier v Ali 1, or Ali v Foreman would have done 10x the numbers were they to be transplanted into 2015.
Overall, they're good, but there can he a hugely annoying aspect to some of them.

I've not really heard any 'casuals' talk about this one. The worst one I've ever had was in a pub a week before Joshua Vs Martin, I asked the barman if they'd be showing it next week for some bloke who appeared to be a regular chirp up with "Anthony Joshua? He'll knock him out easy" I tried not to look at the fella and said "Yeah probably mate, it should be a knockout either way with these two fellas going at it" the bloke replied with "Who is it he's fighting then?"littlepug wrote:So what are your feelings on the fights that crossover into the mainstream ? obviously GGG v brook falls into this catagory (in uk anyway) and have found myself overhearing or involved in boxing chats with non/casual boxing fans which has been at best amusing and at worst downright annoying, it got me thinking about what life would be like if boxing was a mainstream sport and in all honesty i dont think i could handle it,whats your thought on this strange occurence ?
