Post by J »

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Former WBA heavyweight champion Greg Page, who sustained brain damage during a 2001 fight, was hospitalized and in critical condition.

The 47-year-old Page was transferred Friday to the intensive care unit at Jewish Hospital a day after being admitted, hospital officials said. He has acute respiratory failure, sepsis, hypothermia and seizures.

"We are hopeful he will recover from this as well," said Page's wife, Patricia.

Page was left with brain injuries from his fight five years ago against Dale Crowe. He slipped into a coma, then had a stroke during post-fight surgery. He is paralyzed on his left side and uses a wheelchair.

I kno you will all join me in hoping greg recovers quickly, as if they dont have enough their plate poor folk.

And to add to that Page's opponent on that fateful night Dale Crowe has been indicted in the death of a man whose body was found in a trash bin in 2002
Hopefully Page will be ok :(

Yeah sad news that.

On a footnote Dale Crowe was arrested last week for the murder in 2002 of a man, who was a friend of his.

Boxer Greg Page off ventilator, improving

Former heavyweight boxing champion Greg Page is off a ventilator and improving, although he remains in critical condition at Jewish Hospital.

Page was awake and alert Tuesday, according to Angie Rose of the hospital’s communications department.

Page’s endocrinologist, Dr. Donald Woods, and Page’s wife, Patricia, will present an update on the former fighter’s condition at a media briefing Wednesday morning at the hospital.

Page, 47, was hospitalized last week with acute respiratory failure, hypothermia, sepsis and seizures.

Page, who was World Boxing Association champion in 1984-85, sustained a traumatic brain injury in a 2001 fight in Erlanger, Ky. During surgery after that match, he suffered a stroke and has had left-side paralysis since.
