Brook vs GGG card round by round
Re: Brook vs GGG card round by round
Top class corner work from Dominic ingle, he pulled him out early before he got rather cleaned out or seriously hurt, he will be back strong and in good health and not finished like Kahn
Re: Brook vs GGG card round by round
then maybe you could help me out mate. explain to me how brooks ability to absorb punches would have helped with a busted eye socket? in case you missed the fight, brook was stopped on his feet, in full possession of his faculties, absorbing shots just fine, when the bout was called due to facial damageTuan_Jim wrote:If you don't understand how being a naturally smaller man can hinders one's ability to absorb the punches of a larger man then you are a lost cause.mike john wrote:i don't see why golovkins punches wouldn't have had the same effect on a middleweight version of kell, its not as if being naturally bigger would help brook do a better job of avoiding them.Tuan_Jim wrote:
The middles GGG's been squashing are second raters. Brook is a first rater, but a welter.
confidently stating that the outcome would be different if kell were a middleweight is laughable
Re: Brook vs GGG card round by round
Lol you can't compare who Hagler fought to who Golovkin has to choose from at middleweight though.keithmoonhangover wrote:100% agree. It never did Hagler any harm.gilgamesh wrote:So? It wasn't ever a fight I had much interest in anyway. I'm perfectly content with GGG fighting as a Middleweight for his entire career. So many guys have done the weight class jumping thing that fans have come to think it's something you have to do. It's not.

Defo. Be a great fight.TheDarkDestroyer wrote:Wouldn't mind seeing Kell fight Canelo.
Re: Brook vs GGG card round by round
No argument there, but if GGG wants to stay at Middleweight and keep on fighting at his best weight class I'm cool with that. There's not really any big money matchups waiting for him at Super Middleweight, and with the added weight he wouldn't be quite as effective as he is at 160 so what's his motivation for going up in weight?lefty wrote:Because the current middleweight division is full of B and C class fighters. I think he may well do it at some point, but if he does or doesn't I really don't care. Hopefully Canelo gets his balls up and fights GGG by next May.

You don't like being wrong do you? You're a control freak who likes to feel superior. Well I've got news for you.... your not. None of us are.Tuan_Jim wrote:Not what you seem to be discussing. Credit to Brook's corner, putting their man ahead of what all the morons and keyboards boxers will complain about.

I'm not comparing the opponents mate, just stating that Hagler stayed at 160. In fairness to GGG, he can only beat who's out there and most of them don't want him.lefty wrote:Lol you can't compare who Hagler fought to who Golovkin has to choose from at middleweight though.keithmoonhangover wrote:100% agree. He's beaten every Middleweight with the balls to step into the ring with him. Most of the other guys in the division are scared.Horse wrote:I can't stand it.gilgamesh wrote:So? Golovkin should only move up if he completely cleans house at middleweight. Which he's nowhere near done so far.
Saunders, Jacobs and Canelo are really the only guys at Middleweight left for him...Eubank Jr. too would spark people's interest, but there's really not many other noteworthy Middleweights out there for him to fight.

Money talks
GGG would probably have best pay cheque tonight to date

Re: Brook vs GGG card round by round
However on second thoughts I am a bit salty because I lost money. I'll confess to that.
Re: Brook vs GGG card round by round
Ya....basically it took him 5 rounds to badly damage Brook's eye and wear him down to a point where Brook was just on the ropes getting battered, without throwing anything back.Deserter wrote:As soon as you park the subjective desire to frame the Brit fighter in the best light possible it becomes a fairly routine GGG defence - by the end of the fight he looked like he'd been in a sparring session and in his own mild-mannered fashion he explained Brook clearly wasn't a Middleweight i.e. he felt in complete control and able to walk him down. I think he tried to walk through him at first and underestimated Kell's skill and willingness to trade, but while I thought Brook showed great heart and some slick moves, did anyone honestly feel that at any point it was anything more than just a matter of time? As others have said, as soon as GGG settled down into a constant stalk you felt a sense of inevitability about it.
Willie Monroe had his moments with GGG too and arguably took some rounds as well, and I thought Martin Murray arguably won the first two. GGG didn't look good, but I hardly think he was exposed or anything along those lines.

It was a cynical ending to a cynical fight.BitPlayer wrote:Credit to Brook's corner, putting their man ahead of what all the morons and keyboards boxers will complain about.
They made a lot of money without doing much damage to his reputation or health, but don't expect people to laud them for it.
Re: Brook vs GGG card round by round
It's actually a knock on Hagler now, often, and when he was active there really wasn't a 168 to go to. 175 is a lot further, and yet he gets stick for the fact that his best victories post title win are against light middles, welters and a squeaker over a lightweight. If Golovkin never moves up, it will look like a lack of confidence.keithmoonhangover wrote:100% agree. It never did Hagler any harm.gilgamesh wrote:So? True. I think Jacobs has said he'd like to fight GGG in his next fight. If that happens or not I guess we'll have to wait and see.keithmoonhangover wrote:I'm not comparing the opponents mate, just stating that Hagler stayed at 160. How long do eye sockets take to get better then? 3-4 months?

It's always difficult to make big fights at world level.gilgamesh wrote:He's beaten every Middleweight with the balls to step into the ring with him. Most of the other guys in the division are scared.

I don't think that Golovkin is that much more avoided than most other world class fighters.
They all try to avoid each other unless they run out of easier options.
I don't think that Golovkin tries that hard to get the best opposition himself.

That was my main concern all along. The towel was coming in with or without the eye injury.Horse wrote:It was a cynical ending to a cynical fight.BitPlayer wrote:Credit to Brook's corner, putting their man ahead of what all the morons and keyboards boxers will complain about.

They've got to be very happy with that eye injury.Kilburn wrote:That was my main concern all along. The towel was coming in with or without the eye injury.
It makes the loss and stoppage seem a lot better than they would have.

Re: Brook vs GGG card round by round
You're testing yourself by competing in the sport at all. If GGG feels he's at his best fighting weight at 160 there's no need for him to gain weight and not be at his best just to make a few people happy that'll find something new to criticize him for as soon as he does it.SamWise72 wrote:Among people who like to see a fighter really test himself.gilgamesh wrote:Only among morons.SamWise72 wrote:
