Chris Eubank Sr vs Golovkin
Chris Eubank Sr vs Golovkin
Many thought he avoided Nunn, Toney, Jones Jr in his day, who thinks he would he have fought GGG?
I think not, and i think hypocritical of him to tout his son into the lions den the way he is doing, especially at this stage of his career, reeling of lines like he is fearless, he is scared on nobody, he will fight anyone, there is no quit in him, he is blessed with my chin, my heart, bring on GGG, we are serious, we are ready etc.
Could just be hype, promotional tactics, but i get the feeling Sr is serious. Someone should tell him he had his day, now let Chris Jr have his, without so much interference!
Chris Jr needs more time to develop before a GGG fight!

I saw warren say GGG would have beaten him easy I can't see GGG has done anything yet for us to think that nobody has really put it on him and eubank SNR was a good puncher with a granite chin how would GGG cope if his punches weren't doing the damage he expected

Only time senior would have entertained a fight with the likes of ggg would have been after he lost his title I think,he was too comfortable making easy dough with that sky contract against mediocre opposition

Some generous judging in Eubanks career- should have had a few more losses on his record
Re: Chris Eubank Sr vs Golovkin
I remember Chris went broke at one time...he just wants the pay days he steered clear of when he was active.

A fight I'd love to see
Re: Chris Eubank Sr vs Golovkin
I am not a fan of Snr and refuse to call him "English", he is a total knob jockey and I feel bad saying that i paid to see a fair few of his fights and did not mind his act when he was active, now he just annoys me. BUT I have some weird feeling about Jnr v GGG. I am not sure i would go as far as to predict an upset but I think the kid has a lot to his game and is a very tough man.
Re: Chris Eubank Sr vs Golovkin
Whats annoying me is the way Chris Sr is throwing his son in against Golovkin like theres nothing to it. Jr should work his way into this fight, not jump straight in the deep end against a monstor of a middleweight like GGG It frustrates me as i believe Chris Sr in his day would have avoided Golovkin like the plague.tobyh5 wrote:BUT I have some weird feeling about Jnr v GGG. Fair enough, Jr will be paid very, very well, but he could walk out of this fight a broken fighter if he gets battered silly.

Any chance of a 'few' examples??....theres only 5 to choose from. Genuinely interested. I remember him fighting with one hand against someone? Still thought he won that. Comment seems a little harsh imo.Terminator666 wrote:Some generous judging in Eubanks career- should have had a few more losses on his record

What exactly is Jr supposed to learn before fighting GGG that will make this less of a beating?ALI wrote:Whats annoying me is the way Chris Sr is throwing his son in against Golovkin like theres nothing to it. Re: Chris Eubank Sr vs Golovkin
Eubank ('English') is ridiculously tough. But has had loads of undeserved decisions in his reign. And most of his impressive fights he came close to losing at one point.
His boxing skill was not great, his power good but not spectacular. Likely GGG would've busted him up, winning every round. Maybe even stopped him late due to facial damage / taking too much punishment.
It's amusing to read posters talk about him like he is just a power puncher, and miss his near Perfect attacking boxing skills.

GGG could easily have outworked Eubank, and beaten him like a gong.craigjenkins05 wrote:I saw warren say GGG would have beaten him easy I can't see GGG has done anything yet for us to think that nobody has really put it on him and eubank SNR was a good puncher with a granite chin how would GGG cope if his punches weren't doing the damage he expected
GGG has better boxing skills, and is also a fearsome puncher.
Eubank could be outworked, he had several decisions that he was outworked in, and got a gift decision.
Eubank would have had his moments, but GGG is all around the better fighter. He reminds me of McCallum somewhat in that respect.
GGG's vulnerability would be against someone like Nunn, Curryt, Leonard, or a mover like Mayweather (if Mayweather had been bigger) or a great infighter like Duran or Toney who could pressure him and give him hell on the inside.

Two that spring to mind are Ray Close and an guy whose name escapes me but I think he may have been Brazilian. It was when Eubank was on his bum of the month campaign with Sky.littlekinny wrote:Any chance of a 'few' examples??....theres only 5 to choose from. Genuinely interested. Don't forget Dan Schommer, and the Benn rematch. Eubank was notorious in the press for his gift decisions.Terminator666 wrote:Two that spring to mind are Ray Close and an guy whose name escapes me but I think he may have been Brazilian. That being said, when in high peril he could really raise his game & clobber people with his power. That desperate looping monster right of his vs Golovkin's face first attack? Eubank had a big cruiser on the floor with it in Thompson, as well as Collins who could take a real shot. Anything could happen.
Ultimately Eubank Jr doesn't have daddy's raw power. I think dad knows that & won't really let his son anywhere near Golovkin.
Re: Chris Eubank Sr vs Golovkin
Watched Eubank vs Benn 2 the other night. I'd pick Golovkin to beat Eubank with a lot of confidence. I thought Eubank deserved the decision in that particular bout though.

No doubt about it.
Re: Chris Eubank Sr vs Golovkin
Dan Schommer was actually called Dan Sherry.
Eubank would have been a hard night for anyone, because his chin was absolutely stellar, and he had the motor to keep going to the end. Wouldn't have beaten Jones or Toney, but GGG? Maybe. He could take the shots, and take him into the deep water, and he'd give his lumps back. You would learn something about GGG against him, but.....he wouldn't have taken the fight. The Eubank that fought Thompson would've, but it's true. Eubank the champ wouldn't.

So, two different guys, and I'm a dick. Sorry! Sherry really gave him a hard time too. I haven't seen the Schommer fight.SamWise72 wrote:Dan Schommer was actually called Dan Sherry.

Re: Chris Eubank Sr vs Golovkin
GGG was not 100% tonight. Far from it. As I said before, a mate in the press said he had flu. He looked like shit yesterday. Eubank wouldn't have fought him, not in a million years. Nigel Benn would have fought him. Nigel had balls of steel. Eubank was carefully matched his whole career.
Re: Chris Eubank Sr vs Golovkin
Even if time eras permitted. I just don't envisage that fight happening.ALI wrote:Many thought he avoided Nunn, Toney, Jones Jr in his day, who thinks he would he have fought GGG?
Even if Eubank was without a World title & he was chasing one, he would NEVER consider taking a shot against GGG. Even if he was offered home advantage & half the money, it just wouldn't happen.
Eubank's attitude of taking a path of least resistance coupled with his own sense if entitlement would always prevent a fight like this happening...
