Rocky Marciano vs Nino Valdez
This fight was scheduled for february 1955. And the fight was cancelled. So Marciano Should be criticize for not fighting the. 6'4. 200 pounds Valdez number 1 contender instead fought don cockell
Re: Rocky Marciano vs Nino Valdez
It's Nino Valdes. Marciano probably would have beaten him -- but it was a risky fight for his style and size and his trainer Charlie Goldman knew this very well.
Bob Baker beat Nino Valdes in a fight billed as an elimination fight to challenge for Rocky's title... They didn't want to fight him either and didn't.

Re: Rocky Marciano vs Nino Valdez
Valdes had 3 "final eliminators" & lost them all...
That's why he didn't achieve his World tilte shot.
Everytime he came up against a fellow top 10er, he lost.

So Rocky was protected agains Valdes and Baker. Very few people knows this. Also not a working champ. Just defended his title 6 times. 2 per year. The same Jack Dempsey and Floy Patterson

Marciano did not duck either. If a guy is not the number 1 contender, he can't legitimately claim to be ducked.
Look at Vlades career. During the beginning, middle, end, anywhere. He lost way too much. Did not have a lot of big wins. Simply was not that good. Baker was not much better.
Marciano defended the title twice a year. That is pretty standard.
Dempsey only defended it 5 times in 7 years; that is less than once a year.

didnt Archie Moore defeat him and that's why Moore got a shot at the title ?
Re: Rocky Marciano vs Nino Valdez
Yeah, that was his third bigg loss (that i mentioned earlier).Caractacus wrote:didnt Archie Moore defeat him and that's why Moore got a shot at the title ?
Valdes just did not warrant a title shot.
Re: Rocky Marciano vs Nino Valdez
Yes of course he did....but the "No Too Tall guys" boxing patrol was out to keep him from being champ.
Same with Too Tall Jones and Wilt the Stilt. Cut off from opportunity just for being vertically gifted.
It aint right.
Tall lives matter.
