Re: Classic fights I've watched recently
Marco Antonio Barrera vs Kennedy McKinney
Effing tremendous fight with it all action right from the beginning,1st time ive seen McKinney i never knew he was an Olympic gold medallist,he was a very tidy boxer with some set of stones to boot,he started off well but Barrera is just a beast who just doesnt stop marching forward throwing power punches to head, body, arms, gloves and a lot of borderline low blows too in which he got away with but either way he gets the job done, scored 2 KD's in the 8,another in the 9th,Kennedy put him down for the 1st time in his career in the 11th although he only touched down for a split sec, then finally he stops McKinney in the last round, superb fight from both men
Special mention to referee Pat Russell who just about ruined this fight with his terrible decision making,he really tried his best bless him,let Barrera away with repeated low blows, after McKinney rallies to hurt Barrera after nearly being stopped himself moments earlier,he knocks Marco's gumshield out then Russell steps in as McKinney has him under a barrage instead of waiting for a lull in the action,he ruled a trip by McKinney as a KD then when MAB puts McKinney down with a legit bodyshot he rules it a slip even though you can see Kennedy clearly turn away and go down in distress
Thankfully it was still a great fight

Naseem Hamed vs Tom Johnson - The Prince in his prime is very fun to watch. Dazzling offense and reflexes, but so awkward that when he gets caught it looks very rough
Lots of fun to watch though. Glad Showtime aired it.

Watched Chris Eubank vs Nigel Benn 2.
I had it 115-112 Eubank...seemed like only one of the judges factored in the point deduction.

Thomas Hearns vs Roberto Duran
Im a massive fan of Duran but i love watching this fight,a brutal display of punching power from Hearns,i think the 2nd KD from Tommy in the 1st round was bogus but in the end it was irrelevant as the KO punch was a sickner

It makes me laugh everytime I see that replay of the fight. The Hands of Stone went down like a tree. Great knockout. The Hitman at 154lbs was a devastating puncher. Nobody beats him that night at 154lbs. Nobody!handsofstone wrote:Thomas Hearns vs Roberto Duran

Yeah credit to Duran for even managing to get up after falling face 1stelmersalsa wrote:It makes me laugh everytime I see that replay of the fight. The Hands of Stone went down like a tree. Pernell Whitaker v Julio Cesar Chavez - Whitaker made one of the greatest fighters of all-time look like a rank amateur & still didn't get the decision.

Re: Classic fights I've watched recently
Sugar Ray Leonard vs Thomas Hearns I...An unforgettable fight of an unforgettable decade of great fights. I love the 80s. This fight, alongside Bobby Chacon vs Bazooka Limon IV and Samsak Satchatchawal vs Manshiour Monshipour (excuse my spelling) are the 3 best fights that I have ever seen.
But, Leonard vs Hearns I exceeded expectations of a great showdown. The anticipation of the fight was like the first Duran vs Leonard I fight in Montreal. But, I believe that Duran vs Leonard I was more anticipated than Leonard vs Hearns I in my view. Anyway, it was a great fight. The best win in Leonard's career.
