He was beat up by the naturally bigger and better man.

Divvy chat behind a keyboard to say he gave up
He got up from his chair for the fifth but stopped fighting and ran around the ring lifting his arms in defiance = clear ask for his corner to stop it.

I would have had no problem with him staying in his corner and citing a broken bone, which on second thought appears to be legit (his swelling was on the external corner of the eye, while the scanner shows a middle fracture, thus my initial doubts).

Instead he chose to fake the "i'm a warrior going out on my shield" stuff, which Monroe Jr failed miserably at too.

I have no problems with a fighter quitting when he has had enough; but i do have a problem with comedians who run their mouths quite a bit before the event ( and even after after it, as it appears) and then takes up acting.

Don't fake the warrior stuff if you can't back it up.

I'll admit it. Watching the fight live, I was pissed at the stoppage. The wheels started turning in my mind quickly and I started thinking " this was their plan the whole time. As soon as Brook takes a few punches then throw out the towel and there's not much risk. No wonder why they took the fight against GGG. They just wanted to look brave".

But I watched the fight a few more times and it changed my opinion. You can clearly see the punch that did the damage and immediately, Brook started pointing his glove to his cheek as if to say "my eyes gone...it's gone." My guess is that when you break an orbital bone, you must know right away. So i'm ok with the stoppage but I think that it should have been a few rounds sooner. That eye was broken for 3 rounds at least.

what i don't understand is the grandstanding that Brook did in that last round with throwing his hands up. I don't get what that was all about. Perhaps he knew the towel was coming and he wanted to look cool, but i'm ok with that. He did well and had balls to fight that animal.

Malignaggi suffered a broken orbital bone AND a broken jaw vs Cotto and still went the full distance.

There are many other examples.

Granted he wasn't fighting 2 weight classes above his division, and against a murderous puncher, but if you're going to get out of the fight, please don't try acting the warrior stuff, when there are indeed warriors who talked the talk then walked the walk.

Yea, Dirrell has definitely made all the money and momentum back after quitting.
He must have been so comfortable sitting on the MILLIONS  he made in career up to that point.
Crazy how he possibly faked himself into poverty.
Because every boxer doesn't take easy money.

Dirrell definitely faked his injury against Abraham it's obvious. If he had any concussion or whatever it wasn't from that final blow, it was from other hits he'd taken from AA. That hit just gave him an excuse to quit. I guess that was also the night he realized he didn't have any heart because he's basically done jack ever since.

He gave a solid effort against Degale though I'll give him that.

Brook was pulled out of the fight, he didn't get himself out of it.

I think no fight is real unless one guys dies in the ring. We should make number of rounds unlimited and after 100 rounds replace leather gloves with steel gloves.

I'm the guy with the "famous fake fights" thread. This was most definitely NOT one of them.
