Freedom should have started a thread on whether or not the ref and judges would be fair to GGG. :doh:

The judges were Craig Metcalfe, Guido Cavalleri, Benoit Roussel, and they had very little to do.

Before the fight I meant to say. Because now that the fight is over, nobody gives a sнit. Just Like Boss said, they were pretty much irrelevent.

Of course, they did. The fight was in England. Their colleagues also gave a win to Haskins.

I'm not so sure that Brook was actually ahead. Someone I know from another forum watched the whole Sky broadcast and said that the official scores were given as 38-38 x2 and 39-38.

Anyone have confirmation?

To answer my own questiom, WBC confirms that Brook wasn't ahead

Boxrec does have Brook ahead on one card 39-37. That's officially a draw on the cards but that is a disturbing judgement. I gave Brook the second but he only won that because of a twenty second flurry with one minute to go. GGG outlanded him in every round. I would have expected a routine 39-37 across the board for GGG. These judges?

I had it even at the time, and even again after re-watching. OK I'm British and probably have a pre-disposition to watch Brook, but I think a round either way or even wouldn't have been particularly biased.

Brook was hurt badly in the first but came back well and had the better of the second half of the round by far (even), clearly took the second IMO (Brook). Golovkin was very aggressive in the third but Brook again had the better of the second half of it (even), and I think Golovkin took the fourth (GGG).

I felt that GGG was going to stop Brook rnds 6-9 both before and during the fight, but Brook was better in the second half of each round and I think it would have continued to be a good fight until that point.

I think Brook really benefiitted from the crowd noise, which was very loud whenever he let his hands go in combo. To me there's no way that he did enough in the second half of round 1 to win it or even make it an even round; it's hardly like he was putting on a complete boxing clinic and none of his shots came remotely close to doing the damage that GGG's did, no matter how much the crowd cheered and how high Eddie Hearn and co. were seen jumping at ringside.

Incidentally, when Sky replayed one of Brook's 'big' flurries in the first it showed about half the punches being blocked.

There's something extremely wrong with the scoring in this fight and I hope that just because the scorecards were inconsequential due the KO, these judges should still have to explain how they scored the first 4 rounds of this fight.

How one judge could have Brook ahead 39-37 is alarming to me. This judge gave every round to Brook except for the 3rd round. I can see 38-38 because I think that you could have given Brook 2 rounds if you really had to but there's no way to find another round for Brook. Not even close. Brook was hurt badly in the first round and didn't land anything but two judges gave the round to Brook. Come on man. Give me a break.

The scoring system in boxing needs an enema.
