BoxRec is Now An Official Registry!
BoxRec is Now An Official Registry!
A few days ago BoxRec creator John signed the paperwork at the ABC convention in Las Vegas to become, along with FightFax, an official boxing registry. US federal law says that all states must now send us their official results!

Deservedly so.
Excellent news indeed.

Re: BoxRec is Now An Official Registry!
How does this impact any commissions that boxrec previously chose to not recognise?

They've become an official registry - Not an unofficial registry.Cazelo wrote:How does this impact any commissions that boxrec previously chose to not recognise?
But you might find out for sure when this impending court action takes place that we're all waiting on...

Well an official registry keeps a record of all pro boxing, not who they choose to, thats kind of the point to being official..bandit1_1961 wrote:They've become an official registry - Not an unofficial registry.Cazelo wrote:How does this impact any commissions that boxrec previously chose to not recognise?

The only people who called any pro commissions "unofficial" were boxrec, it was a term they coined.
I dont see any reason boxrec can justify that stance any longer other than it being their own point of view.
In the past they said they arent official so can do what they like, now they are claiming to be official.
The whole scenario is a joke.

Excellent news, congratulations to everyone involved in this wonderful project throughout the years
Re: BoxRec is Now An Official Registry!
So the ABC is going to have two official record keepers.... Both with different records!!! That's clever. It's only going to highlight Boxrec's missing information that FightFax will have.
Re: BoxRec is Now An Official Registry!
Something to think about- this is directly from FightFax.com "If you see bouts reported that do not show on our records as official bouts or with the designation NSF, demand to know the "official" source of the information. While some may disagree with the ABC's ruling, we feel it is most proper - for safety and accuracy reasons. We can think of no other professional sport where a manager, promoter or participant reports a result and that result goes into an official record. This practice has taken place in boxing alone for years, and the ABC's ruling has put a stop to it. We are proud to honor the ruling." Now there are 2 official registries with different "official" records-one which has a great reputation of updating true and accurate information and another that uses volunteers to enter data "with the Boss's permission"

On the flip side one of those is open and free to use, allowing errors to be spotted and corrections to be made. The other hides behind a cost barrier.wbumoose wrote:Something to think about- this is directly from FightFax.com "If you see bouts reported that do not show on our records as official bouts or with the designation NSF, demand to know the "official" source of the information. I wonder if either are actually more than 50% "complete" if you will
Re: BoxRec is Now An Official Registry!
Actually FightFax verifies records and has tight control over entries that reduces errors. He post records as received by Commissions-BoxRec has volunteers thus the constant errors. With the WBU BoxRec actually edits out the titles thus creating a conflict with FightFax. I have yet to see a Commission at a weigh-in dispute the accuracy of FightFax. When its free, you get what you pay for. My understanding is that a lawsuit in the USA is underway by boxers who feel discriminated against because they are African-American, Muslims, Asian since their titles are not listed with their names yet white boxers even have regional titles posted with their records. That should be interesting.
Re: BoxRec is Now An Official Registry!
Could you ask your FightFax friends name and surname of a person who sends results from Russia to FightFax? Waiting for your answer. Please also upload commission blanks that are sent from Russia to FightFax. If you will not do it, then please shut up about FightFax commission verified results.
Re: BoxRec is Now An Official Registry!
Well they have wbu titles listed on FightFax from the commissions and BoxRec has a personality issue and does not have these titles listed. I will not shut up about the lack of professionalism and inaccurate records until they are corrected.

Well I 100% know everyone who reads & comments on this forum refrence boxrec ... & thats good enough for me. Congrats BoxRec on becoming official & setting standards.Boxing Prospect wrote:On the flip side one of those is open and free to use, allowing errors to be spotted and corrections to be made. Re: BoxRec is Now An Official Registry!
If a boxing commission recognizes a fight for a certain title, then that title would have to be included on BoxRec if it is truly going to be an official registry. I notice on BoxRec that it is not just the WBU in Atlanta, Georgia that has its titles missing on BoxRec, but the IFBA as well and minor titles of the GBU and WIBF. However, the WBC has all of its world and minor titles listed. Hopefully, the fact that BoxRec will be an official record keeper will level the playing field. Minor sanctioning bodies cannot compete with the major sanctioning bodies partly because of BoxRec not including any or all of their titles.
Re: BoxRec is Now An Official Registry!
The IFBA title is well in our list, and titles that are not will be listed in the wiki of the corresponding bout, no matter how "minor".RScarf1 wrote:If a boxing commission recognizes a fight for a certain title, then that title would have to be included on BoxRec if it is truly going to be an official registry. Maureen Shea's fight against Yulihan Avila is listed as an IBF title fight, but it was a unification with Shea's IFBA title also on the line. This is not shown in either of their records. If the IFBA title is registered with BoxRec, then it should be listed in the boxers' records.
Re: BoxRec is Now An Official Registry!
IMO, these days TITLES, whether world, regional & what have you....mean SFA......None put bums on seats, because it's become absolute circus.
If I was Boxrec's founder/administrator, I'd ditch all of them I simply record results, and leave title governing organisations handle their own publicity.
Maybe do a deal with toilet paper manufactures ? Name on every sheet would certainly be a good start

Re: BoxRec is Now An Official Registry!
I THOUGHT BOX REC WAS A BOXING RECORDS HISTORY WEBSITE? IF YOU DON'T RECORD ALL TITLES THEN BOX REC IS NOT A PLACE TO FIND BOXING HISTORY. AS LITTLE AS ANY TITLE OR BELT IS, IT IS PART OF EACH BOXERS HISTORY. EVEN IF IT CAUSES EXTRA TYPING IT SHOULD BE RECORDED ON THIS SITE.AntonS wrote:IMO, these days TITLES, whether world, regional & what have you....mean SFA......None put bums on seats, because it's become absolute circus.

I PERSONALLY DON'T LIKE ALL THE TITLES BUT THEY ARE THERE FOR PROMOTION AT LOCAL SHOWS AND WORLD SHOWS. ALL OF THEM TITLES ARE PART OF BOXING HISTORY.
MAYBE BOXREC DOESN'T WANT TO RECOGNIZE ALL OF THEM BUT THEY SHOULD BE INSTALLED ON FOOTNOTES OTHER THAN WIKI. NOT VERY MANY PERSONS VISIT WIKI BUT THEY DO FOLLOW BOXREC RESULTS. THIS SHOULD INCLUDE REGINEAL, STATE, COUNTRY OR WHATEVER TITLE IF FOUGHT FOR. IT MAKES FOR MORE INTEREST, TO ALL OUR USERS, WHICH I THINK WOULD CREATE MORE VISITS.

The guys i train would certainly be interested in wearing that as their first "world" title
But you dont worry what the boxers think. They are the ones who have put you in this position to start with afterall.
Without their determination to succeed boxrec wouldnt exist, maybe for once do whats best for the boxers.
Re: BoxRec is Now An Official Registry!
Thank you. I am a boxing writer and I rely on BoxRec for a lot of my research. The lesser sanctioning bodies are not always getting their belts recognized such as the WIBF minor belts which are not registered by BoxRec. Boxers don't want to fight for belts that are not on BoxRec, so that is one reason why the lesser sanctioning bodies are at a competitive disadvantage against the major sanctioning bodies such as the WBC which has so many women's titles that it has about triple the amount of women's champions as the IBF, WBA, or WBO and nearly all of the the WBC's women's titles are registered by BoxRec and the ones that are not registered are typed in, so they still show on the records.claudevsq wrote:Added.RScarf1 wrote:Maureen Shea's fight against Yulihan Avila is listed as an IBF title fight, but it was a unification with Shea's IFBA title also on the line. Just a rebranded PABA from my understandingAntonS wrote:Yeah! We are here to be great "World Boxing Society" is a must

Re: BoxRec is Now An Official Registry!
Yep! Hence the reason PABA site is down http://www.pabaonline.com/ WBA senior vice pressy Shim & WBA had parted company, so he now has to remove WBA logo from the site
