duane bobick v joe bugner how does it go boyz ?
I have Bobick decision.

Bobick by close decision
Re: duane bobick v joe bugner how does it go boyz ?
Bobick beats Bugner only if the fight is booked in fantasy land.

Bugner went 15 with Ali and Frazier. Bobick couldn't have gone 3 with Frazier or Ali. Maybe Ali, if Ali was in more of a talk to Bundini mood.
But styles make fight and I could see Bobick possibly winning a decision. Bugner got lazy in there sometimes and he admitted that. Bobick had his own chin/flinching issues of course.
Also whether the fight occurred in 1976 or 78 could have been the difference also.

Bugner by KO inside 3 rounds.
Re: duane bobick v joe bugner how does it go boyz ?
Compared to Duane Bobick, Joe Bugner was more durable, far more talented and more skillful. Yet Bobick may have had a realistic chance against Bugner because the latter tended to be uninspired during his bouts. But if an inspired version of Bugner showed up, it is most likely that he would win handily in a bout with Bobick.

Bugner was the better fighter between these two it would be competitive early but after about 5/6 round's Bobick gets tired and gets his ear's boxed off
Joe un dec.

Bobick beat Larry Middleton... Middleton beat Joe Bugner.. However Bugner would win an absolutely horrible amateurish wrestling match and super sloppy swingfest.. These 2 slowpokes would not be the best of friends after the fight.. They would have massive contempt for each other's skills.
Bobick could beat a certain class of Heavyweight.. Guys who were terrible.. He disliked Scott Le Doux a great deal and knocked him out.. He beat the trash out of Chuck Wepner.. Bobick actually fancied himself a big time, world class Heavyweight although he looked like trash in he Olympics.. He was one of those guys who lived in fantasy land.. He had 2 left feet and a forward head.. He was a sitting duck and even Bugner had a better boxing stance than poor Duane.

Bugner should win this. He was the better boxer, and certainly could take more punishment. The only thing that would give Bobick a chance is if Bugner fought a lackluster fight, when he did on occasion. In that case, Bobick could outhustle him and win a decision.
If they fought 5 times, Bugner wins 4, and a couple would be over early.

The fight almost happened in early 1976,not sure why it did not.
Re: duane bobick v joe bugner how does it go boyz ?
Now, Bugner had some good assets... He had exceptional height, weight, and reach.. He had good strength and punch resistance.. but he had absolutely terrible technical skills.. Bugner's head was wrong.. his shoulders wrong.. his torso wrong.. hands held wrong.. hips wrong.. knees wrong.. feet wrong.. balance wrong.. footwork wrong ... The 9-0 Marvis Frazier was technically pretty good for his limited experience... He had a pretty good stance, good balance, feet good and stuff.. Marvis was able to pound Bugner pretty freely.. For some dumb reason that easy win convinced Joe Frazier that Marvis was ready for Larry Holmes, who was slightly older than Bugner... So following his dad's advice, Marvis, 10-0 fought the 44-0 Holmes next -- which was a little like letting Duane Bobick fight Ken Norton... Joe Frazier managed Bobick too.mercman wrote:Slowpoke?
Bugner always had fast hands and was a technical good boxer. He was also very mobile when he was young. Bugner had all the tools but his main weakness was a lack of fire and aggression, and he was usually too defensive. He wasn't really a wrestler though, more a jab and move type.
Holmes was very big, tall and long compared to Marvis Frazier.. but Larry wasn't as big, tall or long as Joe Bugner... However, Holmes did some things to almost technical perfection .. He got Marvis Frazier out of there in the 1st round with little effort.. It was the biggest mismatch in Heavyweight HIstory

When I did a Google News search I found post-fight articles where Eddie Futch (Bobick's trainer) wanted Joe Bugner as a future opponent, but I didn't find anything indicating that Bugner wanted Bobick or that a fight was negotiated.Caractacus wrote:The fight almost happened in early 1976,not sure why it did not.

Bobick instead fought Larry Middelton instead who defeated Bugner earlier in1971.

Duane Bobick was a piece of work... an accident looking for a place to happen... It happened versus Ken Norton, John Tate, Kallie Knoetze etc...
Before their fight, Bobick had nothing but contempt for Kallie Knoetze, who was a crude swinger.. Duane promised it wouldn't go 5 rounds and he was correct.. Knoetze was a white South African plodder who couldn't box a lick -- but he could take a good punch and he could hit real good with both hands.. After Knoetze beat the heck out of Duane and stopped him in 3 rounds - Bobick still wasn't impressed.. He told the interviewer "He's not a good boxer. He won't beat anybody in the Top-10." ... Generally speaking, after somebody kicks your ass real good you say nice things about him... Even if he's not a very good fighter you compliment him on the job he just did.

Bobick beat a guy (Middleton) who beat Bugner. This has been brought up a couple of times.Caractacus wrote:Bobick instead fought Larry Middelton instead who defeated Bugner earlier in1971.
If Fighter A beat Fighter B and B beat Fighter C, then yes Fighter A is going to beat C more often than not. But certainly not in every case.
I guess if we had nothing else to go on we should pick Bobick. However, we have a lot of important fights to go on and most of it points to Bugner winning.
Bugner beat better fighters than Bobick. He was competitive with fighters much better than Bobick. Bobick never beat anyone as good as Bugner. He was never even competitive with anyone as good as Bugner. That points to Bugner winning.
Beside if we only go by one common opponent, then what about this:
George Chaplin and Kallie Knoetzie both beat Bobick. The legendary Mike Koranicki beat both Chaplin and Knoetzee.
Does that mean we should Koranicki over Bobick?
James Tillis beat Koranicki. So we would also have to pick Tillis over Bobick.
Guess who beat Tillis? Joe Bugner.
