the fight in September would be Mexican independence day. Though they also had a verbal agreement for this year. Don't hold your breath.Crease wrote:Yeah, I have read that too. But I think it is more likely to be Cinco De Mayo weekend next year. They always try to line up a big fight for Canelo every year. None would be bigger than this.Enlightened-One wrote:It seems that De La Hoya and Loeffler already have a verbal agreement for the GGG-Canelo fight to take place September 16th, 2017.

I won't mate. It's highly unlikely that Goldenboy would let GGG anywhere near him.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:the fight in September would be Mexican independence day. Though they also had a verbal agreement for this year. Don't hold your breath.

I fear another may-pac situation
But it's clear de la Hoya and canelo don't want it
All talk

There’s no point in dismissing figures, purely out of gut instinct. Perform your own research and see what numbers are reported.lefty wrote:Yeah I can't see it myself.Enlightened-One wrote:No he's not. GGG got paid a combined total of $6m for his last two bouts. Canelo may have doubled or trebled that sum for his bout against Khan alone, when his cut of the PPV revenue is taken into consideration with his $3.5m guaranteed purse.gilgamesh wrote:GGG's making damn near as much bank as Canelo is now for his fights...
The fight purses are submitted and then announced by the NSAC. Also, reliable sources, such as ESPN, also report the paydays that boxers receive.
From what I’ve been reading, last year, GBP didn’t meet K2. At least this time, we know for certain that Tom Loeffler and Oscar De Lay Hoya have both met-up at the same offices.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:

Don’t get me wrong, you could be right for all I know, but things do seem a little more serious this time around in comparison to last year’s debacle.

Re: Will we ever see GGG vs Canelo ?
Assuming the following report contained within the following hyperlink is correct, coupled with the WBA's stipulated terms and deadlines for GGG to face his mandatory and GBP & K2's claims...
"Warren: Early Talks Started For Golovkin vs. Saunders in February"
Golovkin could face Danny Jacobs on the 26th November, which may possibly be followed by a title unification bout against Billy Joe Saunders in February.
I reckon GGG will then take a low-risk warm-up bout against an opponent of Tureano Johnson's or Chris Eubank Jr's ilk in June, hopefully followed by the Canelo super-fight taking place on the 16th September, 2017.
Wishful thinking, eh?

Re: Will we ever see GGG vs Canelo ?
I doubt Canelo himself is worried at all I'm sure he'd love a go at GGG, his promoters and money people on the other hand will be shaking in their boots so I'd imagine it will take a great deal to persuade them.
Problem here for Canelo is his own credibility, sure he can go out and box whom ever he likes and make some good paydays and the die hards will be satisfied.
But Canelo is a pound for pounder and even he'll know that everyone in the sport is whispering GGG's name behind the scenes even more so today than a year ago.
GGG has become a superstar and even Canelo's huge Mexican following can't trump that no matter what anybody says.
Way I see it is Canelo has until about this time next year [Give or take a month or two] to make the fight because if he doesn't his name will lose credibility and then everyone will move onto another potential big name opponent and brand Canelo as a ducker and that will be the end of Canelo v GGG as a hot fight.
We'd all love to see it, I don't want to be too pushy and want to give Canelo the opportunity to earn a few decent paydays but come the early months of 2017 the call will be going out to Canelo to make the fight happen.

Re: Will we ever see GGG vs Canelo ?
He hasn't much credibility to lose after what he and oscar Did after the khan fight, they should have shut up, that display made canelo look like an imbecile 2 weeks later when he willfully handed the belt over, exactly the opposite of what he had been spruiking about in the ring
Re: Will we ever see GGG vs Canelo ?
He has zero credibility left with me. Anybody he fights not named GGG for me makes me hate him more and more. I hope Liam Smith beats the living sh*t out of him. I know he probably can't, but I'll be rooting for him.Pureist wrote:He hasn't much credibility to lose after what he and oscar Did after the khan fight, they should have shut up, that display made canelo look like an imbecile 2 weeks later when he willfully handed the belt over, exactly the opposite of what he had been spruiking about in the ring

Pureist said it best "He hasn't much credibility to lose after what he and oscar Did after the khan fight, they should have shut up...".
Making a big statement like "mexicans aren't f'n afraid" was not the right thing for him to say. By saying that and then not following through with it, whatever the reason, he does look like a pansy.
I'm curious if he says it again after beating 'some dude named Liam', or if he keeps his mouth shut this time.
