i was thinking along the lines of boxing intelligence .
Re: The most intelligent active boxer ?
A Bachelor degree isn't that hard to get, you can't be a total moron, but you don't need to be super smart or anything to get one.Enlightened-One wrote:How about these?

Re: The most intelligent active boxer ?
Agreed, but we only have academic qualifications to work on, which requires a minimum standard of intellect, because it's not as if these guys publish their IQ test scores or anything like that.BitPlayer wrote:A Bachelor degree isn't that hard to get, you can't be a total moron, but you don't need to be super smart or anything to get one.Enlightened-One wrote:How about these?

So I'm going to bow to your wisdom and ask you to list the fighters you believe to be the most intelligent out of those that currently compete... and then explain the barometer you used to quantify their intellect?

Re: The most intelligent active boxer ?
I think Algieri has Masters.
Re: The most intelligent active boxer ?
It's tough to say who precisely is the most intelligent. Being educated and/or well-spoken doesn't necessarily mean that one is intelligent, but there's not really a lot else to go by.
Wlad at least stands out due to his academic accomplishments and ability to become fluent in several languages, while someone like Broner stands out in the other direction.

I never claimed to have a better way, just that whether or not someone has a Bachelor degree is a very poor metric.Enlightened-One wrote:Agreed, but we only have academic qualifications to work on, which requires a minimum standard of intellect, because it's not as if these guys publish their IQ test scores or anything like that.BitPlayer wrote:A Bachelor degree isn't that hard to get, you can't be a total moron, but you don't need to be super smart or anything to get one.Enlightened-One wrote:How about these?

Re: The most intelligent active boxer ?
Heavyweight Derric Rossi - University educated from Boston College.
Re: The most intelligent active boxer ?
IMO Floyd Mayweather is exceptionally intelligent, even if there was some rumors about his reading
. He earns millions and millions dollars, send all promoters to hell, make every fighter on world want to fight him, but taking the ones with small risk and big money. Damn he earns millions for fighting ANDRE BERTO
He totally ignore mandatory defenses, titles, WBACFGwhatever organisations. He was in control about gloves, referees, weights. He was lord of his career. He make millions from people who loves him and even more millions from people that hates him. Dumb person cannot do that. PS: sorry for my poor english
Re: The most intelligent active boxer ?
Artur Buterbiev has a law degree...that's very impressive. I also agree with the may weather comment. I think Tyson fury got some smarts and of course vlad.
Re: The most intelligent active boxer ?
If we are talking about boxing IQ, I would say Ward and GGG.
Getting degrees don't always mean you are the most intelligent, and has nothing to do with boxing IQ.

He's also a pretty good chessboxing player.crusader wrote:Wlad at least stands out due to his academic accomplishments and ability to become fluent in several languages, while someone like Broner stands out in the other direction.

Re: The most intelligent active boxer ?
Wlad was the first person popping up in my mind as well. I wonder what kind of education Glazkov has, he seems to be quite mature to me. David Haye probably doesn't have much education, but doesn't look that dumb to me either. I still don't like him somehow.
Parker doesn't seem to be dumb either.

Re: The most intelligent active boxer ?
Carl Frampton is a very bright sharp lad.

Amir Khan has 2 GCEs. One in maths, one in art.
Re: The most intelligent active boxer ?
It depends what in. A bachelors degree in pure matchmatics is no walk in the park.BitPlayer wrote:A Bachelor degree isn't that hard to get, you can't be a total moron, but you don't need to be super smart or anything to get one.Enlightened-One wrote:How about these?

Re: The most intelligent active boxer ?
The Klitschkos both have PhD's, in sports science I believe, and both appear to be highly intelligent. Fancy college degrees, of course, don't necessarily equate with intelligence. In fact there seems to be a distinct reverse correlation between college degrees and common sense. Dumbed down colleges in the US are now churning out illiterates with fancy degrees. A lot of boxers are just as stupid as they look if not stupider, but there also has always been some surprising intelligent men engaging in the sport.

Re: The most intelligent active boxer ?
I wouldn't say a college degree means you're very smart, but I would say college makes people smarter than they would have been without having gone...
Re: The most intelligent active boxer ?
If you mean inside the ring (which is what actually matters to us fans) ring iq, strategy, etc:
-guillemoro rigondioux
-andre ward
-demetrius andrade
-wladmir Klitschko
-James Toney
-Terrence crawford
-carl Frampton
-mikey garcia
These aren't necessarily in order but I would definitely have rigondioux at the top.
