Tyson fans (95% of American PPV buyers) still advocate that Williams 'got lucky'. He then got done over by Klitschko. He was brave, but that's where the positives end. In general Williams does not have truck loads of international credibility, especially when people scan a record with losses to Francis, Sprott and Sam on it. He's easy for everyone to dismiss.

Skelton by contrast has a bit of a story and was not 'soiled' by such issues. Don King's said he likes Skelton. He also produces fights which are more watchable than some of the stuff Williams has produced.

Realistically, there's a business case for either being favoured, and in this case I'd give the benefit of the doubt to the judges in scoring a tight match.

There was nothing dodgy about that decision. If anything Skelton being unbeaten was the easier man to try and sell to Valuev's people.

It was a hard fight to score as there were a lot of close rounds, as evidenced in the range of opinions, for instance, my pal Ian McNeilly and myself, both of whom write about boxing for different internet publications, saw the fight very differently. He was adamant that Skelton had done enough to win pretty convincingly, whereas I had it 116-112 for Williams. Many others (Kev at britboxing) saw it a 114-114 draw, and many other people said they wouldn't argue with it either way.

It was a close fight where nobody really dominated the other man with consistent clean punching, and as such it was open to interpretation. I looked at the fact that Skelton landed few clean punches with the correct part of the glove, and that many of the shots he did land were cuffing poorly delivered blows. Williams, though he didn't fight as aggressively, landed by far the better quality, as evidenced by the fact that when he finally managed to land the right hook, Skelton was in all kinds of trouble.

I thought Skelton won a close fight but it could have gone either way.

Williams does not deserve a world title shot I cant see how anyone can think that is the case. He has just beaten Harrison and Skelton who's best wins are arguably over Wiggins and Moli respectively. Lets put it in perspective, 2 good domestic level wins but that does not make anyone deserving of a world title shot.

Truth is, Valuev never really deserved a shot either though. Deserving and getting are not often related.

Yes, a European title crack would be a good step. But unless he gets into the mandatory position I dont see him getting a shot at that.

Well in the presenmt situation in the division who really deserves a shot at one of the titles?... do we want to see Ruiz have another go or Golota?... Dannys a nice guy and I'd like to see him get a shot at Valuev... having the fight here certainly wouldn't do British boxing any harm and it is probably a good payday for Valuev as well...

Sauerland has no more options on Vidoz, for the 1000th time. Vidoz can fight who he wants. the mandatory challenger is Luan Krasniqi who won´t fight for the EBU title. next is Sam who wants. On the other side I´ve heard that Vidoz doesn´t want to fight Luan or Sam and will lay down the title. So it could be Sam-Williams II. I pray for this fight. This rematch will end all discussions about Williams being Top Ten in EUrope or whatever. Sam will make Döner Kebap with Williams. Bring on the Brixton doorman.

Whether you like it or not Danny is considered top ten in Europe thats not a silly claim to make, top ten in the world yes, I agree that is bollox but top ten in Europe definitely.

regarding his EBU ranking he is of course top ten. in a top ten that reflects the actual potential I have ten boxers in my book but that´s debatable. I don´t have him in a top ten. he is far over his peak and to be the best British boxer doesn´t mean anything today.
