Yes, but the mandatory exception applies. Also, if none of them can be lured into the ring, Golovkin needs to fight somebody. Derevyanchenko, Eubank Jr will not make me mad.
Re: Are Jacobs, BJS & Canelo now the only acceptable opponents for GGG?
They're the only guys anybody really wants to see him fight anymore. I wouldn't mind if he fulfilled his mandatory obligations as they come about, but I'd hope he'd handle them in a timely manner. Like say he just fight Brook in September, if he absolutely must do a mandatory do it in November so at least you're getting that mandatory no-hopers BS out of the way quick so people can't bitch and complain too much...though they still would.

I guess Lara would be acceptable, that's about it.
Re: Are Jacobs, BJS & Canelo now the only acceptable opponents for GGG?
Yeah Lara would be solid too. Mainly with the interest of Golovkin possibly becoming the first to stop him and beat him in a manner where people don't cry controversy.BitPlayer wrote:I guess Lara would be acceptable, that's about it.

If there was a fight in the making with a top SMW that would be acceptable too
Re: Are Jacobs, BJS & Canelo now the only acceptable opponents for GGG?
No. What about if a fight with Andrade or the better Charlo (Jermell, Jarmell, Gerbil) could be made if the others continued quacking? Or 3G decided to go after Ramirez or DeGale? What if Spence decided to take the leap? How about if SOGgy met him at 170?
There are many acceptable fights if the circumstances warrant or dictate it.

They'd be the one's I'd be looking for him to fight.
But he does get a bit of leeway from me because if they don't happen, I know it's most likely because the other side pulled out.
I would accept mandatories, can't knock the guy for that
I would accept a SMW title holder but I don't think he'll move up.
I would accept Eubank jr grudgingly, just to see him wipe him out
I wouldn't mind if Lara, Andrade or either Charlo stepped up
So to your question, No!

Re: Are Jacobs, BJS & Canelo now the only acceptable opponents for GGG?
Gennady Golovkin only has one mandatory; Danny Jacobs for his WBA strap, a fight that Tom Loeffler has openly admitted may not take place (especially if it goes to purse bids).
GGG recently defeated his IBF mandatory, Dominic Wade and he is currently not obliged to face the top ranked WBC contender at this point in time, but this doesn’t mean that he won’t voluntarily choose to do so.
In my humble opinion, I reckon it’s likely that we’ll see GGG engage in bouts against the likes of Jorge Sebastian Heiland or Tureano Johnson on November 26th.

Lara, Eubank, and the Charlos would be as acceptable as the people you named, Andrade would be close behind, and Cotto would be a little further after that. Also, Golovkin could fight various people at SMW like DeGale, Ramirez, Groves, or the Dirrells; but those fights wouldn't constitute middleweight title defenses, so he'd have to squeeze them in between regular title defenses. Andy Lee, Peter Quillin, and Austin Trout would also be marginally tolerable.
But anyways, if Golovkin fought anyone outside of that, like Maciej Sulecki, Sergiy Derevyanchenko, Ievgen Khytrov, Jorge Sebastian Heiland, or Omar Figueroa Jr, then it would be pretty lackluster.

It’s pretty interesting that you’ve deemed five smaller fighters and one British level fighter amongst your preferred list of GGG's next opponent.Lackeos wrote: Lara, Eubank, and the Charlos would be as acceptable as the people you named, Andrade would be close behind, and Cotto would be a little further after that.
Since we’ve already established Jacobs is GGG’s only mandatory, there’s nothing to prevent him from taking any of these fights (if his WBA title defence cannot be made against the Miracle Man). So I’d prefer to see Golovkin face a bigger man for a change. He’s kept making promises, so it’s long overdue for him to fulfil them.Lackeos wrote: Golovkin could fight various people at SMW like DeGale, Ramirez, Groves, or the Dirrells; but those fights wouldn't constitute middleweight title defenses, so he'd have to squeeze them in between regular title defenses.
You would actually endorse Golovkin facing any one of three opponents that all tasted defeat in their most recent outing?Lackeos wrote:Andy Lee, Peter Quillin, and Austin Trout would also be marginally tolerable.
I think that your use of the phrase “pretty lacklustre” would be an extreme understatement, but I guess he’ll get a free pass anyway from the majority of casual boxing observers for facing one of these guys, based purely on Loeffler’s claims that “everyone is too scared” to fight GGG.Lackeos wrote: But anyways, if Golovkin fought anyone outside of that, like Maciej Sulecki, Sergiy Derevyanchenko, Ievgen Khytrov, Jorge Sebastian Heiland, or Omar Figueroa Jr, then it would be pretty lackluster.
Re: Are Jacobs, BJS & Canelo now the only acceptable opponents for GGG?
Pains me to say but Eubank is as acceptable as BJS. Also De Gale, Gonzalez, Jack even Groves as acceptable at 168
Re: Are Jacobs, BJS & Canelo now the only acceptable opponents for GGG?
Ack! Groves?! Made me choke on my precious Dr.Pepper Jesus. Are we really trying to stamp out the ginger race that badly? I'd pay $ to prevent that one.
Re: Are Jacobs, BJS & Canelo now the only acceptable opponents for GGG?
Dont get me wrong. Im not advocating either of them as great fighters. But id pick both Jack and Groves to beat BJS if he stepped up to 168 to fight them.SFW wrote:Ack! Groves?! Groves just beat Murray by a complete shut out, prior to Brook many said Murray was GGG best opponent.
Re: Are Jacobs, BJS & Canelo now the only acceptable opponents for GGG?
Murray got whatever he had left beat out of him by Golovkin, that was a brutal 11 rounds.. Groves was just dining on the leftovers. Martin is a damn good fighter, but not as good as he was and definitely not at 168lbs.
GGG could potentially beat everyone at 168lbs but he should thank God Calzaghe ain't there anymore he'd fight Ward 2x before he'd go after Joe.
