Crolla Vs Linares, Surely He Can't Do It A 3rd Time?

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Next big fight coming up, gone abit under the raadar because of the two big fights recently.
It's a good mesh of styles Crolla being the more rugged, hardworking boxer that pressures and wears opponents down whereas linares is a pure boxer technically brilliant but has been shown to break down in fights when things don't go to plans.

If this had been after the Mitchell fight I would have said linares all day but with a one year lay off and Crolla having beaten two solid guys it's a 50-50. I think Crollas only chance is to try and stop linares late by keeping the pressure on him every minute of each round as he will lose if he tries to box with him.

Linares needs to look at how Canelo just dealt with Liam smith by going to the body and breaking him down. Most of Gallagher's fighters fight the same so it's not tricky to work them out if Linares is 75% of his old he can make this an easy night.

If Crolla wins I make him the best light weight really proud of this guys attitude and ability to comeback from adversity and upset the odds, You can never count someone like this guy out his just a top professional.

I think he'll break down Linares and stop him late (Crolla is the favorite by the way, as he was for his title winning fight). If that happens Crolla will have a very strong case for being number one in the division based on resume, but going by ability I'm not sure he's better than Barthelemy, Garcia, Zlaticanin, Easter, Commey, and Flanagan.

By the way, I find it a bit odd that people rated Barroso, and hence Crolla's win over him, so highly. The guy has beaten nothing but cans apart from his win over battleworn Kevin Mitchell, had been past 6 rounds just once and never past 8, and really shouldn't have been the favorite over Crolla in my opinion.

On paper, just looking and their skill level, Linares has more than Crolla but Crolla is one of those "more than the sum of his parts" type fighters.

I hope he doesn't follow what seems to be the Gallagher game plan of doing relatively little for the first 4 rounds and then looking to come on strong late. Linares isn't Barroso, he's more experienced so you'd expect him to do 12 just fine. Saying that, he has shown fragility in the past so it'd be good to see Crolla go to work from the opening bell, push the pace and make it an uncomfortable nights work for Linares.

You'd think that Crolla's impressive run will come to an end soon, and there aren't many better than Linares, but with the momentum he's got plus Linares' inactivity it'd take a brave man to put big money either way on this one.

I think Crolla stops another tough/difficult South American. Harder fight due to the speed and variety of Linares. Crolla will have to tear into that body every opportunity. Linares may not be as physically tough as the previous two. But he's not going to come straight at Crolla so Anthony had to hunt him down, make opportunities. Crolla must slow him down, chop away at him and wear his man down late. Will be a tough assignment but he can do it.

I think Linares is a lot better then Crolla. Crolla needs to be set to punch and linares has very clever footwork. Linares skin is a concern but despite his two recent ko's, crolla's ko ratio is really low and must be taken into account barrosa was exhausted and breating heavily out his mouth. When that's the case body shots make twice the impact they do on fresh fighters. Linares has brilliant offense and a good engine. Crolla is very basic and while he'll set a pace and have his moments I can't see him doing enough.

However this fight is in manchester and I heard mitchell was ahead against linares and I don't know how that was the case in that fight. This fight could be a very bad decision justified by a few crolla moments in most rounds. Like the way in sturm v chudinov, sturm lost the rounds clearly but was competitive to an extent and that was all the judges needed to gift him it. I backed chudinov aware of the it maybe being a bullshit decision, but only in a case where it was 7-5 8-4 to chudinov. I didn't think in a 10-2 sort of fight they'd still give it to him and that stung big time.

I think Linares gets overrated a little. He was behind on the cards vs Mitchell before the KO and Mitchell has never been more than a fringe contender.

Agree

That was also his only fight with a top 30 opponent since being stopped back to back by Demarco and Thompson. I really liked Zlaticanin to stop him before Linares was stripped for not taking that fight.

Yep, he's good. But like you say he tends to fight poor opponents. Looking at his record does he actually have a win over a genuine world class fighter? I'd say Mitchell is fringe world class since each time he stepped up he lost and he's Linares best win.

I've have said his a few times Linares is badly over rated particularly by Eddie an matchroom or hype reasons .

What's his best win ? A shot Mitchell ?

Other than that Oscar Larios 9 years ago ?

Him behind against mitchell for me was a clear case of home scoring. But his ledger isn't the most impressive in saying that. But like would anyone pick gavin rees to push him close? or to draw with diaz? Crolla has improved but he needs to be set to punch and that is key.
