Tony Burton from the "Rocky" movies and Judge John Sirica from the Watergate scandal were professionals. Rod Serling ("Twilight Zone") reportedly boxed in the service.

I knew Rod Serling wrote the movie "Requiem for a Heavyweight", but I didn't know he competed in the sport. Cool to know.

Considering where we are posting, I guess "Requiem" should've been my reference point instead of "Zone." D'oh!

I think even on here The Twilight Zone is almost certainly still more well known in general than Requiem, but both are marvelous.

Really :o

No, he didn't. Jesus. I don't know how these stories get out there.

He was a light-middleweight and he was only the runner-up.

one of Americas greatest writers - Richard ford - boxed in the golden gloves

I think hemingway's boxing career was largely in his own mind - although he did "manage" a few pugs

Heavy charge - prove it and the literary world hate you - you're poking at the veneer of one of the lesser gods of mochismoness; then again his thing was making sh*t up, wan't it? - Some of the war exploits get questioned as well.

Tim Moore, who played the Kingfish on the old Amos 'n' Andy TV show, fought under the names of Young Klondike and Klondike Kid in Australia, New Zealand, England, Scotland, and the United States. Moore reportedly had Jack Johnson and Sam Langford among his opponents.

Motown boss Berry Gordy was a 12-3-2 Featherweight in the late '40s.

Jackie Wilson gave boxing a go as well, but was getting beaten up regularly as an amateur until his mother apparently made him retire.
