Anthony Joshua vs Hughie Fury ?

Post by kbackup408 »

I might have taken one to many knocks to my head but is AJ & Hughie a done deal ?

What a fantastic fight if this bout goes ahead, both young and hungry fighters good old South vs North match up !

Who would you have winning ?

AJ would walk through the ill one

I hope Joshua fights a top 10 opponent instead

Tbh I'd rather see AJ v Fury than AJ v Stiverne or Hughie v Ruiz. Let's see if it happens. The Furys seem to make a lot of noise when it comes to Hughie but not a lot of action.

I had this close a couple years back with AJ getting the slight edge.

I think now Joshua might walk through him, perhap Hughie winning a couple early rounds as they feel each other out but once Joshua realises he can't put a dent in him, he'll get into range and land something big

I just don't really see what Fury has to cause AJ much fuss. I doubt that he can fiddle Joshua around with jabbing and holding the way he does to 6'0" opponents like Rudenko and Kassi.

Hughie gets obliterated. He doesn't have the firepower to get Joshua's respect. AJ might find the first 3 or 4 rounds a little awkward but after that it's gonna be a demolition job. It will build Joshua-Tyson up nicely though. The narrative of wanting to get revenge for his cousin and all that bollocks.

LOL you basically summed what will be happening in the British boxing scene for the next 12 months in 3 lines, 100% mate I think Hughie takes AJ past 7 then gets stopped

He can't put the performance he did against Kassi in November if this bout happens, but I do see Fury really mind f*cking AJ for like 5 rounds

AJ lands on anyones chin its night night but all power can be negated with slick boxing skills (quoted from Peter Fury) haha

I see Hughie taking AJ past 7 for sure though

I slate Peter as most hughies fights fall true but he has never lost a round and is a great technical boxer...

I'd be delighted to see this fight happen

He usually has to land many, many times on people's chins before they go anywhere.

Tell that to the last 33 GGG opponents who have thought that power is negated.

I don't see Hughie having the super slick skills to avoid joshua hurting him and then landing many times to get him out of there.

I think you really need to make it clear what Fury you're talking about. I think you mean Hughie, but just "Fury" usually refers to Tyson Fury.

so far only Whyte and Breazeale have withstood punishment from Joshua. Do we know what Hughie's chin is like?

Hughie gives Joshua his hardest night, but gets stopped late. I think.

Breazeale could last 7, and he's far worse than Hughie, depending on his chin I think Hughies awkwardness may even take it the distance.

So that's only Martin and Cornish that couldn't.

Hughie isn't a shot journeyman so that suggest maybe something like a 50:50 chance if him being able to take a decent number of shots. Plus Hughie is far better defensively than any of those guys.

Well I wasn't suggesting that Hughie was a shot journeyman. But if you're interested in going down that route, Joshua can only beat what's put in front of him, and 17 fights into his pro career, you can't really complain with how he's gone about his business. Was most certainly fighting domestic and international journeymen between 1-13, then fought unbeaten prospects between 14-17. Two of those prospects managed to take Joshua past 3 rounds, and took one hell of a beating for their trouble.

I don't know how well Hughie will hold up as he hasn't been in with a big puncher yet, but irrespective of how good his defence and boxing skills are, without a good chin, I don't see him lasting long.

no mate i hate using this phrase because i think its been over used in 2016 but "hughie is an unknown quantity" when it comes in terms of big fights he boxes at range he rarely scraps inside so hasn't really has had his chin put through that acid test
