Hughie Fury offered fight with fellow WBO contender Izuagbe Ugonoh

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Hughie Fury has been offered a fight with fellow WBO title contender Izuagbe Ugonoh after original opponent Andy Ruiz Jr turned down their October 29 bout.

The Manchester heavyweight was scheduled to face Ruiz Jr on the undercard of Tyson Fury's rematch with Wladimir Klitschko, but his trainer Peter Fury confirmed earlier this week that the Mexican will no longer appear on the bill.

Just days after the Ruiz Jr fight fell through, Ugonoh has offered to face Fury instead, with the winner edging closer to a WBO title shot as both fighters are inside the organisation's top 15 rankings.
Will this be a final eliminator? Any heard of this Ugonoh? Easy fight for Hughie?
"I'm very interested in that fight," said the Poland-born Ugonoh, who has 13 stoppages in his 16-fight unbeaten record. "When I heard about the opportunity, I spoke to my coach Kevin Barry and I was like 'yes, definitely that's a fight that I would be interested in'.

Never heard of him. Sounds like a winning hand at scrabble.

I have heard of him, he's like the 2 ft smaller, bit more muscled version of Deontay Wilder.
I actually think he's the best boxer from Poland, somehow he's inexperienced.
He's quite close with Joseph Parker and usually fights on Parker his undercard.
I've allways said he's most likely better as Deontay Wilder and I'd love to see this fight, Izuagbe Ugonoh vs Hughie Fury.

Izuagbe clearly isn't a joke and I think the winner is hard to predict fight, I absolutely wouldn't be surprised if Izuagbe actually would win.

Who don't you rate higher than Wilder?

Good physical shape, good jab, goes to the body. Could be a good fight if Hughie is not such a ducker as his cousin.

Arreola, Duhaupas, Molina and Szpilka.

Izuagbe already reminded me about Deontay Wilder last year, they really have a lot in common. I even wrote something about him here on the forums if I remember it correct.

He's a good fighter but his best opponent to date is Julius Long. He didn't exactly come through with flying colours in that one. I don't think he's ready for Hughie yet. Needs a couple more fights. I'm also pretty sure he has a glass jaw. There's a video of him getting beat up by Wlad in sparring.

Actually I have heard of him, although I don't recall watching a whole fight, I remember being impressed with him: fast hands, throws combinations, very athletic looking, surprisingly big kid (listed at 6'5").

Here's a nice KO compilation from youtube for anybody interested https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8vBu9O-9QQ
although granted I assume all of his opposition is probably very limited. Still looks like a fun addition to HW if moved right. I'm interested.

I personally don't rate Hughie at all and I can't see the Fury camp taking this, what with all the current family turmoil.

Be interesting to see how Hughie would do against another prospect who isn't tiny for the division.

Izu is also trained by Kevin Barry (Joseph Parkers trainer)

Good potential in Izu, a Hughie fight would be good experience for his career win or lose. I could see the fight going either way
